I saw the Ramones at the same theater a couple years later on their Adios Amigos tour. They were stale. but the crowd was awesome. I crowd surfed for the first time at that show.
I saw The Ramones in '85 on the Too Tough To Die tour. This was at a time when punk was uncool and most punk bands had either joined the mainstream or had self combusted. Nobody expected much of a show as word on the street was that they were “washed up”. Only about two hundred people turned up to a venue with a capacity of about 1500.
That night The Ramones blew the fucken roof off. The pit was literally a seething mass of colliding bodies. I still remember hearing Howling At The Moon for the first time. The crowd went fucking apeshit for it. The next day I ran and bought three of their LPs.

Now as you can see these groups sound nothing like Less Than Jake etc…it’s like calling Ministry a Hip Hop group.
I’m just sayin…
My first concert was a banger…I saw Kiss in full make-up @ Western Springs in Auckland, New Zealand around 1980. The thing that really stood out was Gene flying through the air playin bass and spittin blood while fireworks went off behind him…the other thing that made that concert memorable was the fact us kids got taken to see Empire Strikes Back the next day…I was 5yrs old at the time…the 80s ruled!

lol if you want to get all anal about terms i’ll call it “ska punk” rolls eyes.
Did the crowd go ape shit for the Spin Doctors? They were, like, as big as Friends for five of the weeks I worked at a record store (then we saw all the copies we sold X2 sold back to the store).
I don’t recall. As I remember it, I enjoyed Screaming Trees, sat still for Soul Asylum, and turned into the Internet Grumpy Cat for the Spin Doctors. This was at Jones Beach Amphitheater, a HUGE venue. Two years later, I saw an ad in a local rag for the Spin Doctors playing some pub out in Port Jefferson, NY (not a HUGE venue). Same thing happened to Hootie & The Blowfish. Makes me smile.
Blue Oyster Cult was the first concert I went to. Free show at Union Station, summer of 1994, right after my freshman year of high school. The first show I ever PAID to see was Sausage/Rollins Band/Helmet. Which was way cooler. Third show was Pigface, cooler still. The tour for Feels Like Heaven, Sounds Like Shit. That show was brilliant.
And you know, I swear we did this thread before. But, whatevs.
Maybe. I don’t know. I’m too lazy to look for it. Plus I’ll probably be really embarrassed if it turns out that I actually MADE the thread covering this topic already.

I remember it and it wasn’t that long ago. Oh well.

First concert in the womb was Judas Priest on the Turbo Lover tour in '86. I actually have the shirt from it.
First concert I actually saw was Robert Plant in '90. I wish I could remember the show better. All I remember was Alannah Myles opening and looking very hot. She’s best known for the song Black Velvet.
First great concert was Aerosmith on the Get A Grip tour. I remember Jackyl opening the show and being really shitty. Aerosmith’s set went on for nearly 3 hours! I really wish I could say GNR on the Use Your Illusion tour was the first great concert, but, as well all know, that was the tour where Axl took forever to come on. It didn’t help that my mom wanted to leave the show early to beat the traffic on the way out. Right in the middle of Bad Obsession just after Welcome To The Jungle.
First concert I went to without my parents was Luxt in 2000. Yes, the band where Erie Load first made a name for himself. The co-headliner was a ska band called Natt. I ended up buy their demo because it had a pic of girl’s ass in a thong on the cover. Never listened to the album. Anyways, Luxt always put on a good show, but their studio shit was terrible.
First big concert I went to without my parents was KMFDM in '03, and I’ve mentioned that story on here a few times.
I was thinking about this thread today and it occurred to me that my first concert was actually Eddie Murphy. Not sure if that counts as a concert or not but I guess it does.
Awesome!
Was he doing stand up or his music? Either way it’s friggin’ AWESOME!
“Boogieeeeee!!! Boogie in da butt butt!! Put put da boogie in da butt!!!”
Eddie may be a boring downer and box office kryptonite now, but in the 80’s, man, that dude was pure gold! I remember sneaking into the movie theater when I was in Jr. High to see “RAW”.
And anyone born between 65-76 should probably be able to recite “Delirious” almost verbatim.
Like he ended with some rambling monologue or something? Lame. That’s pretty funny that y’all were talking about whether he’d sing or not. It’s been ages since I’ve watched one of the videos, but I think he would sometimes end his shows rockin’ out one of his songs.
$13. Not bad! Oh, I HAVE seen Gallagher a number of times, hahahahaha!!! And also I saw Beatlemania with my parents at Knott’s Berry Farm when I was like 10 or something (HATED IT), and I also saw Elvira in concert (also at Knott’s) in Junior High (AWESOME).
Mine was Fu Manchu back in '96. I’m racking my brains to work out whether or not there was anything before that so I can’t be 100% sure. I did go and see Bad Religion and Afghan Whigs around the same time so I’m not sure which came first. The first truly memorable one was also from '96. It was the metal band Psychotic Waltz, who have I believe since broken up (?). Anyway, they blew my teenage mind at the time which is all that matters!
