C.S. Friedman - This Alien Shore
I’ve been turning in my old books to the store for credit to get some reading material. Trying to keep myself occupied with more productive hobbies and all.
Well, I finished the Hunger Games a few weeks back and I’ve moved on to the neuromancer because of the supposed cyber punk visuals. I read it when I go to bed and I can’t tell if I’m really tired or if it’s really difficult reading or it’s just really boring because after about 2 pages I have to back and reread paragraphs to keep up with what’s going on. and by that point my eyes are so heavy I have to put it down cause I can’t stay awake. I hope it picks up. maybe I’ve spent too much time in jr high literature text books… but right now I’m disappointed with it.

i LOVE neuromancer. i love all of his work. ground-breaking author who single-handedly changed sci-fi lit. if you are having a little trouble with him, try his book ‘the difference engine’ with bruce sterling. it is a little easier/thinner and takes less concentration.
i just read Ghost Story by Peter Straub, and man… that is a REALLY good book. i rarely like the ways that hauntings are depicted, but this is a strong piece of work.
im also waiting on the new Barker novel ‘The Scarlet Gospels’, but in the meantime his new comic series is bridging a lot of gaps and is very interesting.

Well I’m only 20 pages or so in, I’ll give it at least until the 100 page mark… even 1984 took 50 pages to get going.

Thought I’d revive this sucker, seeing as I’m doing a bit of reading these days.
I’m reading 3 books at the moment. It’s a slow process keeping up with all 3, but I’m hanging in there.
Really enjoying Gateway by Frederik Pohl. How this book has not been turned into a movie is beyond me. Though I’m sure they’d find a way to fuck it up if they did. Its sort of a Prometheus meets 2001: A Space Odyssey hybrid. Good sci fi. Space ships, aliens computers, booze, women,… you get the deal.
As for the other 2. I’m reading World War Z with my gf, but she’s so far ahead of me, I’m having to do a lot of catching up, so its a pain in the ass keeping up with 3. Good zombie book though.
Last but not least Timescape by Gregory Benford. A what they call “hard sci fi”. Loaded with physics and tachyon beams and time travel, its a toughie. And I’m having to note a lot of stuff,
I’m not reading anything currently, but I’m glad you bumped the thread as I need to pick up some books for my long haul flights this weekend.

Nice. If you’re into sci fi I recommend Gateway!
Sci-Fi ain’t my thing, but thanks. I read mostly rock autobiographies and first-hand accounts of true crime/ undercover / military stuff.
Waiting on Groovie Mann’s autobiography titled My Life Without The Thrill Kill Kult
That reminds me, I still haven’t read Connely’s Cocks book.

It’s a great read. Short but great. I ended up paying close to $30 for it but it was worth it. He really makes Al seem like the biggest asshole on the planet.
The Dark Tower series. I’m almost to the last book.
Somebody lent me a copy of Bukowski’s Hot Water Music a while back. I’ll pick it up every so often and read a story, then kinda forget about it. It’s raw, all right, for better or worse.
The Tao of the Wu by the RZA
this book is AWESOME
I finished reading these last month:
A Hope In the Unseen - Ron Suskind
Gangleader For a Day - Sudhir Venkatesh
Currently Reading:
The Big Short - Michael Lewis
Bitter Brew - William Knoedelseder
Re-reading Alex Garland’s “The Beach” which is perfect vacation lit.
“The World Is Flat” by Thomas L. Friedman
The Lord Of The Rings Book 1 - Fellowship Of The Ring.
The Lord Of The Rings Book 1 - Fellowship Of The Ring.
I plan on reading that whole Lord of The Rings Trilogy. I’ve already downloaded The Hobbit on my kindle. And since I loved the Lord of The Rings movies, its only fitting I check out the books, I’m sure they’re just as good if not better than the movies.
