Let me know if you see something similar geared towards Connelly please. All 11 pages too. From what I have read on here, posts directed towards him are questions and not “omg!!! It’s Chris!!!”. People on this forum aren’t star struck generally and just have questions from way back in the day, etc.
Didn’t Special Ed master ‘Flowering Blight’? Has that thing even sold 800 in its entire existence? Ditto with Connelly’s albums…
Well, from a marketing point of view, due to the lack of promotion, there is not a Flowering Blight brand. There is a Revco brand, built by many from years ago that has stayed and is being used currently.
Now I’m not bashing the sales of the record but let’s look at numbers. On Revco’s Myspace alone, they have 19,004 friends. That is, presumably, let’s say 19000 who have been blasted with press releases. Let’s even knock that down (inactive accounts, etc) to 17000. 800 copies sold means that’s roughly 5% of their Myspace friends rushed out to buy the album in the first week. 5%.
This is also the first album that Al has had any association with since ending Ministry (I think). This alone has generated some interest I am sure from many who want to see more from him.
Reviews and interviews are in abundance with the Revco. Here, just google:
(A link from Best Buy, a major US store specializing in entertainment to electronic equipment, is the third one down. So this album is featured in a major store).
So reviews are abundant which is publicity - no-one can argue that.
Now let’s look at FB’s reviews:

So even with all the publicity (reviews, interviews, webzines), branding and access to fans (through social networking sites, Piss Army, etc) that Revco has, don’t you think 800 copies sold is extremely low? Keep in mind, there is a professional company that does promotion for Thirteenth Planet Records…
Think about it: the major press release of Flowering Blight was through this site and that’s it. That is one site. 1! Really isn’t much at all and is, essentially, catering to people who follow him/Ministry closely. Considering all these factors concerning promotion, I actually think Paul did better. He certainly has a lot more money from the project. I am essentially saying comparing Paul’s FB (which was done at Lohner’s studio without any record label backing, heavy production, press releases and interviews) to Revco’s album does not really do Revco any justice compared to how much went into their promotion versus how many albums they sold. While you may think ‘how did FB do comparatively?!’, I’m thinking the other way around!
When we had Paul come here to DJ, he had 500 paying cover to attend. My friend Kevin and I promoted it (just us two, no company, etc), people were very eager and a buzz was generated through word of mouth. There was a line outside, the place was packed and was one of the club’s most successful nights. People here admire and respect Paul. It’s just the promotion is lacking for him something that I will be helping with. Basically promotion is non-existent. He has the very successful pedal company that keeps him busy and I have a full time job, so it’s tough, but we have a few things that we have discussed that we’ll do. Perhaps a release party with him present - I bet if we did that, just in one city alone, it would do very well. The Paul Barker brand is there - we just have to let people know about it.
Also, did you know Revco had over 20 release parties for this new album? That’s right - in major cities. Paul had 0. I don’t know - 800 seems very very low that even I’m beginning to think they must have sold more considering all the publicity that went into it…
If you’re going to compare, do so with looking at all factors.
3 - 800 is big numbers for crappy Industrial music as far as I’m concerned.
You’d be surprised. A lot of industrial bands shift a lot more units than you would think. Metropolis has done well with many artists that have made Billboard charts (in dance, etc). Also a lot of industrial acts do not have decent publicity. The internet (forums) are their main publicity avenues.

as far as the connelly cock sucking? well he makes good music, he wrote a great book, and he appears to respect the fans that he has… he has a vocal range (from bowie to lydon and… beyond) and he’s got that adorable european thing that us americans love (the hugh grant syndrome)
I like al, we all like al… sure we make fun of him and i think we’re all just shocked at that low a number… and then a few posts down hearing having low sales of previous albums being blamed on people here

Yeah but it’s all relative - every band is affected by this on similar scales. Reznor brilliantly released his album for free in CD quality format but still sold a very good amount of physical CDs of the same albums and his arena rock tours sold out. This proves to me that if you are good and people know about you, you will do good regardless of Internet downloads.
And if 5% of your myspace friend list buy the album with 95% downloading it, then that speaks volumes either about your fans who would gladly rip you off, or about the music.

I just cant see where there is serious Connelly ass kissing here. To reiterate what was said earlier there’s a difference between ass kissing and admiration. You can see this in how posts are directed ie. addressing Connelly or whoever directly or talking about the work of said person(s). Plus is there any evidence for the idea that people who admonish Al ass kissers are Connelly ass kissers?

Not defending anyone - just haven’t seen any ass kissing. You have yet to show the posts. You said there are more here than on PA and I showed you an 11 page thread of ass kissing there. I don’t see any thread here more than 11 pages directed towards Connelly.
Ass kissing is not asking who wrote lyrics, whether someone had more influence on a record than thought to be, discussion about a book they released, as I have seen people do on here. I will be the first to point it out, but I have honestly not seen any here. Perhaps we both have different views on what ass kissing is and will have to agree to disagree.
