It can’t possibly help that thing’s been available via filesharing networks for 8 months. Or that the thing’s been delayed so many times the promotional material doesn’t make sense anymore. Or that instead of a real tour they’ve got the guitar player and a DJ.
It’s a shame, because it really is the best thing Al’s been involved with in a very long time.

This is most interesting to me because quite a few in that camp personally blamed me for the poor sales of Ministry’s last few albums stating that I leaked the albums. Of course, I did not and would not do any such thing. I find this amusing as out of all the people they send albums to (radio, journalists, record execs, engineers, etc, etc), they blame their webmaster without any evidence whatsoever. I don’t even use torrent sites!
They never sent me an album in the mail since Rantology in 2005, for which I am very grateful for, as this proves that I did not leak anything because the subsequent albums not only had piss poor sales but were leaked months in advance. There is absolutely no possible way - I haven’t even heard the albums.
But blaming people who you have worked with (for free, nonetheless) without any basis is a pretty paranoid and low move.
I heard the Revco release party in Chicago had no-one there. That’s because we didn’t throw it
Icepick, where are you man? There is a serious amount of 'BA-ZING’ing to do here on this thread! It’s feels almost cathartic, and I’m completely uninvolved in all of this.
Afra that is very interesting. It shows just how ridiculous the Ministry (Al) camp became. It just compounds the rest of the nonsense of the past few years.
Mr.J. will always, always blame others, he has not accepted responsibility for anything, it’s to be expected, of course it’s someone else’s fault that he
A: signed to arista
B: became a drug addict
C: spent every last dime on cars and drugs
D: stopped making decent music
E: alienated everyone
F: stopped selling records
Well, actually, you turned down an offer to be on the previous RevCo record, right? If you HAD been on it, Al wouldn’t have had to hire that awful guy from Spiderbaby and it would have been a better album. If the last one had been a better album, the new one would have sold better because more people would still be RevCo fans.
So in a way, it IS your fault!
Don’t mean to sound stupid but how many units would a …middle of the road successful band (like, say, Mudhoney or Dinosaur Jr) expect to ship in the first week - in order for the sales to be deemed ‘a success’.
Is 800…really bad?
I have no idea, I know nothing about the music business.
How many units has a ‘successful’ Ministry album like Psalm 69 shipped so far?
i think low ministry sales were right after the psalm 69 rage ended. filthpig alienated many fans and then came the spoon. to this day i read the stories that people buy them dirt-cheap. things didn’t really get much better after that i think.
rio grande blood sold 7,000 copies in a first week. i remember, because tool’s album sold 600,000 copies that same week. not that i’m a tool fanboy, just good numbers for comparsion… ministry has never been a million-seller except for psalm 69 which was certified platinum, no?
but still, 800 for the new revco album, it’s probably whole piss army community who bought it. i dunno if it’s big or not, but the album is shit. it’s just not revco. it’s too guitar-heavy. in a bad way. but has more synths than the previous one!! that was marketed as a return to the “old style” which the long-time fans love so much. i honestly can’t hear it in there at all.
another funny thing that it was available since late august of 2008 on numerous torrent sites, in mp3 format. and it was delayed because… what? there are probably no difference to the finally released copy after all. why the delay? i remember that artwork was loooong in progress of being made. but that’s not the reason to delay an album for a whole half-year, right? and now i have yet to see the lossless copy of the album on the various torrent trackers. people probably didn’t even bother to buy that album.
and yet, there’s gonna be a THIRD farewell album, a live one. would be interesting to see how it will sell. oh boy…

Ahem
[#e5e5e5]Gosh, guess I shoulda hung in there, looks like all those receding hairlines and teenage humour started to pay off[/#e5e5e5]

[#e5e5e5]well, good thing that people are buying music smartly during the recession.[/#e5e5e5]
and don’t forget. 800 in billboard 3’s is how many albums were shipped to the stores… it’s an industry trick that they use… so when you see like 50 beyonce cds in best buy they all were coundted as “sold”. So a whole whopping 800 copies went out to stores… :sigh:
al’s face is totally covered with egg on this one, especially after the whole “best album i ever had anything to do with” speach he kept dropping. plus this cd DID get alot of internet promotion and was reviewed in a bunch of music mags. So the word WAS out there to get info to the target market.
I only wonder if this 800 is gonna be greater than or less than the new pigface first week sales.
but really what is revco to the music world? Honestly it’s a vanity release from a has been who’s not even really on the damn cd and in all the press for the release basically stated so. but it’s his best work ever… i’m confused, eh whatever. It’s connelly’s fault cause he wrote that damned book
later added: sorry but i’m just pissed cause i’m really shocked them blamed afra for their low sales. that’s fucking balls and delusion and toally pissing on a burning bridge
i don’t understand what happened here i’ve been coming here since ‘98 (i found out about the title of what would become darkspoon here) but why all the hatred ? now i guess chris/afra have personal issues with al but what does that have to do with the music, i mean the new revco is pretty good (i’ve not heard cocked n’ loaded so i can’t compare) why should we be happy that an alternative group on an indie lable has poor sales ? since we are all fan’s here of ‘alternative’ music should’nt we be on there side. we all know how tough it is doing any type of music against the grain and having finacial sucess especially now. i do not know al personally but for those who do and hate him ,the rest of the current revco seem like nice guy’s in there interview they do not hide at all the respect they have for the core revco albums, they put up no front at all and say that there current record is great but could not compare to the classics (the link is on pissarmy under vampire freaks or something) when asked about the whole ‘best record of hypo luxa careeer thing’ the point i’m trying to make is as alternative musicans and fan’s why should we be happy that things are not going so well ?

You’re not kidding. I was pretty surprised by that as well. And not to one-up the ‘fun’ but Angie blamed me as well, I can’t even remember for what leak it was for but it was probably around 2004 or 2005…which is just funny considering my name is not even on this site…delusions of grandeur…
