Surgical Meth Machine

That was awful…

Never been a fan of Jello Biafra or Chris Connelly lead vocals.

(barely controlled Homer rage) “Now I know you’re angry, boy…”

I don’t wanna hear any more than the 10 seconds I tried last week. Grumpy and I were waiting for our buddy to cash a check at the bank when I remembered I hadn’t listened to the track yet. After a few seconds I gave up and proclaimed it to be shit.

Listening to the disc now.

Haha! I honestly can’t remember if I bought it or not. Guess I’ll give Amazon a few days and see if anything gets delivered.

By the way, his talk about it being one half crazy and one half laid back is bullshit. There’s 2 quiet songs on there, the last 2 tracks. I liked it. I’m Invisible is still 3 minutes too long and very boring though.

Wait, are you implying that Al exaggerated about something? Get the fuck out of here. . .

I know, i’m totally out of order. Sorry [:)]

Just gave it a listen over my lunch break.

Not feeling the first half of the album. I’m burnt out with the “harder and faster” mentality. He’s already done enough with “loud, fast guitars” to last any listener a life time.

The second half is actually pretty good! The Devo cover was a fun listen. The other tracks have a fun dub/experimentation feel to them. And of course, I’m Invisible is my favorite off the entire LP.

I’ll pick up the vinyl when it’s on sale.

I know I’m going to buy this, so I’ll wait until then to listen to it.

Yeah, it still landed at Nuclear Blast, so I figured it would still be mostly heavy material. . .despite his declarations.

I like it. It’s straight up bananas and all over the place.
The retarded lyrics and goofiness make me feel like he WANTED this to be a LARD record but Jello’s limited investment just squirted out one track and they just said “screw it” and banged out the rest of the album anyway.

Whatever the story of it, I’m pleased. It’s different enough that I’m satisfied.

I’m quite surprised and the level of guitar playing Al is throwing down on this, though. Certainly a higher and more technical caliber than I would have expected. Anyone who knows me knows that this is NOT something I would say flippantly, but it almost seems like he’s trying to honor Mikey with some of those licks.

Anyway, is it groundbreaking or the best album ever? Of course not. But I think it’s a good departure and I HOPE a harbinger of Al at least trying to break out of the boring ass mold he’s cast himself in for the last 10 years.

Totally! I’m a guitar player myself, and i keep forgetting how great Al actually is on the guitar. I think it might be because so many times when i saw them he was so fucked out of his mind that he basically just wore the guitar as a very heavy necklace. He didn’t do anything on it, just wore it. But the soloing on this album made me raise my eyebrows in surprise a few times. It’s really good stuff, i liked it more than i expected to. He should do more of that sort of stuff. Actually, he should do more of everything. I’m in one of my “very impressed with Al Jourgensen” periods again, long may he run. I’m enjoying his humorous agitator shit on this album. The opening made me chuckle, sounds like he might have been reading Prongs and seeing what some of you evil bastards have been saying about him [:)]

For him just to throw this out for the fun of it, with no other players, is just the kind of DIY punk rock that i appreciate, hahaha.

another favorite in that same voice Homer voice:

Bart: TV SUCKS.

Homer (teeth clenched): I’ll PRETEND I didn’t hear you SAY that!

I’m going to swing by Amoeba tomorrow or Saturday, so I’ll listen to it then.

HAHAHAHA!!!

I felt honored by that one. I’m just going to take it as a proper shout out.

I think someone posted a link to an interview about that track and it’s about his daughter’s facebook likes and her obsession with it

I’m waiting for it to show up on emusic, which is usually sometime after the crack of noon when their staff rolls of of bed, has a third cup of coffee, reads the paper, has a nice slow wank, and finally gets around to uploading the week’s new music for their customers.
