Seen any good movies lately?

Saw Start Trek last night. It was great, really enjoyable. One of the best sci-fi action flims ever. That “space jump” scene was awesome, awesome to the max!

And Uhura… wow. Has a woman ever been so delectable. Damn that “pointy eared bastard”

Been meaning to see that all week, but finals kinda took priority there. Still, I’ll have to scope this. Uhura is downright tasty.

I just saw this movie called “seven pounds” with will smith that was actually far beyond anything I would think he as an actor would be capable of doing… as in it was really fucking good. but it’s one of those to describe it would be to ruin it things…
also southland tales, by the guy who did donnie darko. excellent movie… excellent excellent…
also saw the sequal (in studio sense only… it’s new writers/director/etc.) to donnie darko… not so good

Bought “Role Models” on many excellent reviews! Movie was great. Pretty funny for a main streamer movie!
“Quarantine” was not bad either kinda of a realistic zombie type movie… not really zombies but kinda like zombie… possible scenario at least more possible than straight up zombies… Alright

The Devil Rides Out starring Christopher Lee.

The Devil Rides Out starring Christopher Lee.

Saw this one a couple of weeks ago along with Tourner’s ‘Night of the Demon’. Both great movies.

‘2001: A Space Odyssey’, on 70mm.

It was something else. Have been blaring Ligeti ever since.

I saw the documentary “Anvil! The Story of Anvil” Decent, not as good as the comments and trailer let on. But good, eh - maybe juuuust under good.

“Drag Me to Hell” kicks absolute fucking ass. If I wasn’t shitting myself in pure terror, I was pissing myself with sheer laughter.

“Apply the friction with the proper diction” is forever going to be my new pick-up line.

Haven’t made it out to see Drag Me To Hell yet oddly enough as this is the one film I have been looking forward to.

Saw Land of the Lost with my mom last night. It was terrible. As in raping your childhood terrible. Its just like every other Will Ferrell movie, but with a few neat set pieces, and craptastic cgi. Whatever spirit of the Sid & Marty Kroft show that was trying to be fun was crushed by gay jokes, and lots of sexual innuendo. As a popcorn movie it was lousy.

On a better note I saw the Canadian film Pontypool which was excellent, if very surreal. For a supposed zombie film it touched on some heavy cerebral William S. Burroughs stuff. Think if the Orson Welles War of the World radio broadcast was not about aliens but some sort of viral invasion that was turning people into homicidal maniacs, and you worked in a radio station quarantined at the center of the outbreak. Not a whole lot of gore, but its definitely weird.

late,
grmpysmrf[/reply] Its on the IFC festival circuit so check your local art house theaters I watched it ON DEMAND which was nice because it was slightly cheaper than a theater ticket. IFC puts the movies they distribute on there at the same time they are in the theater, so more people can have a chance to see them way before they come out on DVD.

@ ed yes, Star Trek was great. Seen it twice already, it was even better the second time once I was used to the new actors. The guy that plays Spock is fantastic.

Saw the Joy Division/Ian Curtis bio thingy ‘Control’ last night.

It was…good. Hardly spectacular. Or riveting. Or a must see.

Merely good.

The young lad did a good job I thought but the ‘Joy Division’ documentary is better.

Trailer for Herzog’s ‘Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans’:

It looks like it will not take itself too seriously.

Looking forward to it.

Saw Picnic At Hanging Rock for the first time the other night.
It was good.

Yes a very understated mystery film. Do yourself a favor, and do not look up the author’s explanation of what actually happened to the girls like I did. It is just plain goofy.
