Seen any good movies lately?

I’ve seen Oppenheimer twice in the theater.

Strange Days

Crazy how under the radar this movie went despite some big names attached to it and it being a very good sci fi.

Been a fan of Strange Days for a while…it’s started to gain a cult following…the director of this also did one of the better vampire films called Near Dark in the late 80s…and of course is known in more mainstream circles for making Point Break…she does good work…

Such a great premise. I wish the story was a little stronger, but premise alone makes this movie a must own.

The director got the idea from James Cameron which makes sense. My only knock on it was the lead guy was a bit of a simp idiot I would prefer someone with more gravitas

Bigelow was married to James Cameron…I liked Ralph Fiennes in the lead role…really like the actor Michael Wincott who played the music producer…that guy always exudes a gnarly creepiness and is a great villain…

I watched a horror film called Smile recently…it was not good…

I liked it. Kind of a remake of the ring but with a smile instead of a video. but yeah I thought it was pretty cool. effects were cool.

Oh he nailed the role he was given I’m more pointing out the script itself. A minor gripe anyway. The soundtrack is pretty badass too just highlights the eclectic nature of the 90s.

The exorcist extended cut 4k, one of the very best 4k transfers I’ve seen to date.

Very killer!!

The original? I was not impressed with that flick. I think you have to be religious to be scared by it. My parents were terrified by it when it was released. I saw it once and that was 1 time too many. I think the short lived tv show was better than the movie.

Watched The Maltese Falcon in 4K. My dad was a huge fan of Humphrey Bogart (James Cagney too) and it doesn’t disappoint. Classic for sure!

Maltese Falcon is excellent…I think my favorite Bogey film is the Treasure of Sierra Madre…

Exorcist: Believer

A screaming turd of an abomination. I’ve had bowel movements that were scarier. Whoever green lit this shitshow needs to be hung.

Just absolutely wrong on every conceivable level. No idea why at some point during the making of the film someone didn’t tap the director on the shoulder and says something like, “Um…no hard feelings or anything but…this isn’t very good”.

People in the cinema all around me were groaning and guffawing for most of the second half. I doubt anyone, not even the elderly couple sitting behind me, left that room feeling scared or unnerved in the slightest.

And for the record, the original is a fucking masterpiece.

Blair witch 2 syndrome.

I’ve heard as much. Whoever cut the commercials did an excellent job though, because the commercials do a fantastic job of making it look good. I’ve read that they paid warner bros 700 million for the rights to reboot the franchise, but based on film #1 here it doesn’t look like they’ll get to do anymore cause this one is so bad.

Huge fan of the original and yes this new one is a total shit show…straight up garbage…

I saw the original Exorcist many years ago, and I gotta say, its relevance as a social touchstone in the realm of “scary movies” must be a time and place thing, becuz I wasn’t scared at all. Maybe it’s because I don’t really believe in God (I’m a confused agnostic) – certainly not a Catholic God – so it was just a kid throwing up and thrashing around. I dunno. Anyone else here feel the same?

For the record, the movie that scares me the most, of all time, is “Jacob’s Ladder.” That scene where he’s about to be operated on by the surgeons with no eyes… yikes.

Yeah I was never really scared by The Exorcist but I always just loved the general malevolent atmosphere of it and the themes that are explored…William Friedkin was definitely one of my favorite directors…

Jacobs Ladder is an incredible film that we watch at least once a year …
