Seen any good movies lately?

Beyond The Black Rainbow.

Psychedelic headfuck film that Panos Cosmatos made a few years before the very excellent Mandy.

(note: it’s nowhere as good as Mandy)

I watched it last night. I didn’t know what to expect and it turned out pretty crazy…I enjoyed it.

Has anyone seen a show on HBO called “The Rehearsal”? I watched the whole thing on an international flight recently and it’s quite a head fuck. A really insane mix of Candid Camera, Truman Show, Punk’D, and all the creepy Sociology experiments (Stanford Prison Experiment, Milgram’s Experiment, etc).

Huge fan of Panos Cosmatos…loved both Rainbow and Mandy…I wish he was a little more prolific though…he also did a cool episode of Guillermo Del Toro’s show on Netflix called The Cabinet of Curiosities…the best episode of the series by far…

I’ve heard good things about The Rehearsal, Gunnar…will check it out next week…

Going to see Infinity Pool most likely tonight, green…I’ll report back…

Lowelly- Surprised you didn’t like The Last of Us…I’m 2 episodes in and enjoying the shit out of it…I understand the zombie fatigue but not to be a total nerd but it’s technically a virus movie …the virus mutates and infects and turn people into deformed creatures…but I get it with the fatigue of such things…but I think it has enough going on and doesn’t focus solely on the infected…if I could compare it to anything it has the dystopian dread of Children of Men and action sequences that are reminiscent of something like 28 Weeks Later but it has its own thing going on…and I like that the actors are mostly u known and are all great…I’m digging it…

Yeah, The Rehearsal is brilliant. Nathan is an acquired taste, but if you liked that check out his Comedy Cereal show Nathan For You. Quite funny too.

That sounds awesome!

I’ve been watching as much as I can find on YouTube. I was hoping the series would be available on DVD or something, but no such luck.

I know you don’t do streaming, but it’s on Hulu, HBO Max, etc.

Streaming does suck. You have no clue when your fav series is getting pulled from the platform. Owning a bluray/dvd box set of your fav series completely solves the issue. The convenience of streaming just doesn’t beat physical media.

Modern entertainment is kinda barren too, I used to subscribe to Netflix for a few weeks just to finish a series and unsubscribed when I was done. I think in 20 years we’ll be looking back at subscription streaming like we do with Blockbuster. A relic of the past. It’s not sustainable under the current model…

Just watched Triumph-Rock and Roll Machine. It was well done…I enjoyed it.

Yeah I got the Blu ray of that…I enjoyed the shit out of it…funny how Mike Levine has always been the level headed mediator of that band…seems nothing has changed …

John Wick 4. Another great movie. Some of the best directing shots I’ve ever seen in a action flix.

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984) - Wow, what a disaster. Totally forgot about this movie and mother of god…so many famous actors in this one. Even Mike from breaking bad!

It was fun to watch and the music was pretty cool, retro 80’s.

Totally wacky and fun cult classic…I would watch Peter Weller read the phone book…

Was looking into the music from Banzai and the guy did this movie a year before…don’t know this one (but looks like another winner!).

Dude…revco…Get Crazy is an early 80s late night cult classic oddity for the ages…I’ve met the director,Allan Arkush ,on several occasions…he is a legend for Get Crazy and Rock n Roll High School but also suspect for directing the notorious slice of excrement, otherwise known as Caddyshack 2…nobody ever accused Arkush of being Stanley Kubrick but he carved out his own little niche and is an incredibly cool guy to talk to…

Get Crazy is pure madness with Malcom McDowell playing an affected Mick Jagger type rock star…it has Lee Ving,Lou Reed and Howard Kaylan(Flo and Eddie) and a bevy of character actors you will recognize…set on New Years eve at the old Filmore…it’s a great send up of a bygone era of rock n roll —even then!!!)… recommended even for all it’s tongue and cheek goofiness…

And btw it took them years and years to get Get Crazy out on dvd/Blu ray because of licensing issues with the music and other discrepancies…(not unlike the animated film Heavy Metal, years before… coincidentally both film being released a year apart)…

I saw “Oppenheimer” on an IMAX screen, and I gotta say, whatever your feelings towards Christopher Nolan, this film knocked it out of the park. One of the 20 best movies I’ve seen in my life; absolutely riveting. Nolan somehow manages to coax nail-biting anxiety out of a biography whose ending is a foregone conclusion. Keep an eye out for Robert Downey Jr., whose work will undoubtedly land him award nominations across the board. And that scene where the bomb finally goes off – just incredible. I cannot say enough good things about this film.

On the TV front (I know, not this thread, but I had to comment) – “Succession,” anyone? The best TV show I’ve seen since “Squid Game.” Don’t blow any spoilers for me, I’m almost done with the first season and still have 3 seasons to go.

I wanted to watch Oppenheimer in the theater, but I couldn’t get the time. So, I’m waiting for it to hit streaming. Your review makes me excited for it again. I hope it streams soon.

Haven’t seen Oppenheimer yet but we absolutely dig Succession around these parts…found it totally riveting …I won’t spoil anything for you, lowelly but I will say I found the finale to be quite a satisfying conclusion to the series…and 4 seasons was the perfect amount of episodes for that story to unfold…truly ,great show…
