First Reformed(2017) written and directed by the legendary Paul Schrader(writer of Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and many other gems) and starring Ethan Hawke as a minster of a 250 year old church who is having a serious crisis of faith…after meeting a radical environmental activist, his life starts to unravel…this is an incredible film that really packs a wallop…I was definitely affected by it…a real slow burn done right…totally unnerving and compelling all the way through and the ending is a real gut punch…Ethan Hawke at his best and a uniformly great small cast of actors…was great to see Schrader still has the goods…highly recommended…
Went and saw a restoration of Aguirre: Wrath of God, the masterpiece by Werner Herzog…pretty amazing to see this film restored on a big screen…I had seen the film before but never like this…the madness in Klaus Kinski’s eyes will haunt me for days…brilliant stuff…
Watched Doctor Sleep in 4k. The Shining part II.
I loved it. I highly recommend it.
Squid Game. Good one!
“NOBODY” - I just wanted to kill time on the airplane but this movie is so fucking rad. It’s pretty much a by-the-numbers balls-out revenge movie born from the burnt DNA of Rambo and every Mel Gibson movie ever, but there’s enough minor tweaks and new humor woven in to keep shit fresh. Excellent violence. So much violence.
Story schmory. If you want to see a million motherfuckers get fucked up by a badass motherfucker, you’ll dig it.
I watched it too. Felt like John Wick movie to me. Another good one.
I watched “Pig” recently and turns the whole Taken/John Wick/Nobody action subgenre and flips it on its head. It was great.
Oh yeah, that’s one of my all-time Favorites. Would love to see it on the large screen!
Sound of my Voice…
Loved it…I’m a sucker for films about cults…
First I’d heard the name. Is it a recent movie?
HAHA! Post-Covid Cage!
I’m in!
Nobody can hit or miss like Nicolas Coppola…
Nobody sounds killer…
Justice League - both of them. Zach’s was way better. Once you watch that version, Josh’s kinda of doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
Black Hawk Down. Never saw this one. Was pretty good. Forget R Scott directed it!
I saw “No Time To Die” yesterday, it was pretty bad. Rami Malek is up there with the worst Bond villains of all time – absolutely no menace, no motivation, no dental work…
I’m 3 episodes into “Squid Game,” if that matters. I’m trying to avoid spoilers. I don’t have Netflix and have to watch the show at a friend’s house, so I’ve been watching in 2-3 episode chunks.
I have tix to see Dune on Friday…
All of a sudden I’m hearing about this Squid Game everywhere I turn…what’s the deal with this series?
I saw the Velvet Underground doc…it was fucking amazing and I consider it essential viewing whether you like the band or not… incredibly well done doc…

Squid Game is hot right now BECAUSE it’s so hot right now. No other show on Netflix has been watched as often as this show has. I think it comes down to geography – I’m pretty sure 85%-90% of the viewing audience is in South Korea, where the show is set.

I love the Velvet Underground. Gonna have to catch that one.
I watched a couple episodes of squidgames. It’s “edgy” so people like it. I’m not necessarily a fan because the premise is so ugly and so familiar. People willing to hurt/mame themselves to get living essentials because they’ve squandered everything they had trying to obtain some level of wealth that is unattainable.
It’s disgusting. It’s only a matter of time before it’s real at this level. They’ve already test driven it with fear factor. We’re just playthings of the rich and they have no problem not hiding it anymore.
How many people watch this crap and think “I can beat this. I would do this.” How many people would willingly sign up for this? Too many I’m afraid… Would any wealthy people sign up for some shit like this? not a chance.
Grmpy,
You ever read Stephen King’s “The Running Man”? He predicted this kind of thing back in the 70s. I highly recommend you read it, it’s short and devastating and is TOTALLY different from the movie.
