“…JUST COUUUUUUUUUUUNT YOUR STARS I’M HOME AGAAAAAAAAAAA YAIN. CAUSE YOUUUUUUUU COUUUUULD BEEEE MIIIII YIIIIIINE BUT YOU’RE WAAAAAAAY OUUUUUUUUUT OF LIIIIII YIIIIIINE…”
Went to see this flick based soley on the the exclusive guns n roses track contained within. Was not disapointed by the song. And the movie was not bad either [:p]

The Troll Hunter
Watched Return of the Living Dead last night. That fucking zombie freaked the shit out of me:
But the movie was fascinating in many regards, it’s just a bit too “B” movie at times. It did have gratuitous 80s nudity, which when in put in perspective of the 80s, is not really gratuitous, more so ESSENTIAL. This movie was also a lot more bleak and vicious than most other zombie films.
Attended a 25th anniversary screening of Aliens tonight.
Awesome.
Michael Biehn was in attendance, seems like quite a character.
The hunger games was pretty bad ass! My wife read the trilogy about 2 years ago and was raving about it. So, naturally we went and saw it. She said they left out only a little bit (or a lot depending on how the next movies progress)
awesome the way collins put together her story based on the attitudes of the military/pride in poverty/ segregation/reality tv/societal complaisance.
I highly recommend the flick. It’s 2.5 hours but it runs so smoothly it doesn’t feel that long. check it out if you get a chance.

Not sure If you have seen Battle Royale or not,Grmpy…many are claiming that Hunger Games ripped it off…it’s all over the net…I love Battle Royale but have never seen Hunger Games so I’m not sure if it’s an accurate critique or not…
Heard good things about Hunger Games though…
Rampart was an interesting character study based on the LAPD Rampart division corruption scandal in the late '90’s - obviously a story I followed carefully. It didn’t portray much of the reality of egregious planting, stealing, selling of evidence or the widespread ideal that cops are above-the-law, and instead concentrated on Woody Harrelson rouge cop role.
Dangerous Method was an underrated Cronenberg film on the Oedipal relationship between early psychiatrists Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung. Don’t expect any of Cronenberg’s trademark special effects as the film got a bit mired down in didactic dialogue.

Yeah,it looks like it was based on a book…I didn’t know that until I just checked…I’ve seen the movie a few time…high-paced action with smart’s…never a dull moment…
BR and HG certainly share a number of the same plot points but they are radically different tonally. Both really good: I put BR as more Texas Chainsaw Massacre and HG as 1984.
I zipped trough the Hunger Games Trilogy before the movie and felt the movie did a great job capturing the book. I’m happy to see it doing so well in the States. It’s not as big over here, but I suspect the sequel will change that.
‘Rampart’ was good. Woody was solid. eh hem
‘A Dangerous Method’ bored me to sleep
Appreciated ‘Once Upon a Time in Anatolia’ but not for everyone
‘Into the Abyss’ was great. I went to see it with my friend, Big Justin
I intend to go see Cabin In The Woods this weekend…

I expect all the good parts in this to have been displayed in the commercials.

Vanashing Point! The ending was kinda WTF but I totally want a Challenger now.
I love Vanishing Point! just came in on blu ray yesterday, haven’t watched it yet but own the DVD. one of my all time fav movies
the ending to me reminded me of a symbolic ending of an era, so to speak. perhaps the free-spirited hippy era. perhaps it means all good things come to an end.
first time I saw it I thought the ending was WTF too, but it really got me thinking after a while.
and fuck yeah, that TOTALLY got me interested into cars, espeically the classic ones like the Challenger and old Mustangs. Fast & Furious movies got me into sports cars, but my next car after the 2012 Eclipse I have now must be a 70-72 Challenger, or 67-70 Mustang.
EDIT: also, check out the Primal Scream album “Vanishing Point” …it was not only named after the movie, but is meant to be the soundtrack that they envision for the film. one of the best produced albums I’ve heard actually. trippy, claustrophobic yet wide open at the same time. just like the movie. features samples from the movie throughout the album.

Shit! I’ll definitely check out that album :D.
I’m actually in the market for a new car. I had it narrowed down to an Infiniti G35 or a Nissan 350z. But fuck!! after watching Vanashing Point I think one of those new Challengers will do.
Through out the movie Kowalski seemed kinda depressed. The movie doesn’t go much into why. Their are some flashbacks that give clues, I think he lost his gf and his racing career if I remember correctly. Maybe that had something to do with why the ending was so effin weird. But yea it could also have been something symbolic as you said. Fucking great movie!
it’s a great hero/anti-hero movie. I mean, the dude’s a druggie, breaking all sorts of laws, sticking it to the cops…and yet we can’t help but cheer for him.
the album is great, one song is even called “Kowalski” . there’s a cover of the song “motorhead” which is just a speed out fucked up song. I really picture these songs going with the movie and was even thinking about cutting it into the film somehow.
I was soooo close to getting one of those new Challengers. they’re pretty bad ass. of course they don’t hold a candle to the classics but what cars do? I opted with the Mitsubishi Eclipse because I was partly inspired by Fast & Furious (yes, Vanishing Point got me into the car movie genre.) and because it was alot cheaper than the Challenger. It’s also the last year they’re making the car so I thought it’d raise the value of it in a few years when I sell it.
oh, have you seen Tarentino’s “Death Proof” ? a must see if you like Vanishing Point.
Couldn’t have been much cheaper than the Challenger?
The basic Challenger SXT goes for around 24 G’s. The R/T about 5 G’s more, that’s the one I’ve been eyeing. Maybe one a few years old, cause I don’t need a brand spanking new car. I just look at the Mileage to determine the real age of the car despite the actual year it was made.
But yea I imagine the Eclipse was a good deal, great cars those! My cousin once had a 3000GT, man I loved that car! made by Mitsubishi too.
I’ve seen Death Proof. Really dug it. Freaking lunatic that Russel Crow! Takes women into his car and drives like a psycho path killing the girl xDD fucking classic. I remembered that movie mentioning something about Vanashing Point?
^ I’m sure Kurt would take offence being mistaken for that sissy Aussie [;)]
I’m glad to see other fans of Vanishing Point. I haven’t seen it in a few years but downloaded it there about a week ago and will watch it tonight. Car movies generally fall short of the mark (‘The Driver’ for example) but some movies have great car chases. William Friedkin was the master at it - both ‘The French Connection’ and ‘To Live and Die in LA’ were masterpieces. I concur with SD about the end of ‘Vanishing Point’ … it was most fitting.
