WTF… why did Raimi and TM leave? Dont care about TM so much , lots of superhero movies change actors. Meh… this sounds like that Iron man cartoon that came out last year… I only watched a few mins but teenage Avengers running around wasn’t looking good.
Apparently Raimi wanted the next villain to be The Vulture (who was to be played by John Malkovich) and his sidekick, a new invention called The Vultress. The studio (I think rightly in this case) thought that The Vulture was a boring villain and The Vultress was a stupid idea. Raimi and Sony couldn’t reach a compromise, so Raimi left and Maguire left with him.
He should stick to good ol fashioned comedy/horror.
Totally agreed. While the Spider-Man movies had their moments overall they are just not all that great. Especially the 3rd one which suffers from the 2 major villain syndrome except this one tried 3!!!
Raimi blew the whole Venom thing in that one, but he hated the character to begin with so it might have been more to sabotage the film than anything.
Drag Me To Hell was a fine return to form for the man, let’s hope its not too late for Evil Dead 4 and not some craptastic remake/revamp of the original.
Recently viewed Bruno, The Hangover, and the new Star Trek film. Bruno was amusing but it didn’t have a very good flow to it. The Hangover is overrated but there were a few funny moments, I doubt I’d watch it again on my own accord. Star Trek felt hollow to me. Lots of good special effects but I didn’t find the acting or the story very strong. Not a horrible movie but I wouldn’t put it above the older material.
Looking forward to seeing The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus when it comes out on DVD. Can’t be any worse than Tideland or the Brother’s Grimm…ugh. Come back Terry.

Ugh… I’m a huge Evil Dead fan, thought Drag Me To Hell was overrated and just a bit meh… maybe my expectations were too high… it was good for what it was, and had a few cool moments but not something i would buy or anything. Ending blew chunks too, I could see that coming a hundred miles away.
Still better than a lot of recent horrors I’ve seen though… they do try and take themselves a bit too seriously…
As for Spider-man and the Vulture… well… yeah… the only Vulture I have seen was an old dude in the Identity Disc mini-series, so yeah not that exciting!
Ending blew chunks too, I could see that coming a hundred miles away.
Drag Me To Hell has a lot in commmon with the classic horror film Night of the Demon/Curse of the Demon right down to the plot point of giving back the cursed item and ending at a trainstation, although what happens there is a bit different.
Its obvious that Raimi patterned his film after it, but NOTD treats the subject matter very seriously. Its biggest flaw is the ‘Demon’ itself (think Toho studios), and it was included after filming was made at the insistence of the studio against the director Jacques Tourneurs wishes. If you like classic horror, or films about the occult check it out.
The Devil Rides Out with Chrisopher Lee is a good one too.
[reply]I just watched Little Nicky right now… and saw a MINISTRY poster in Nicky’s room.
Made my day.
I thought that film was hilarious.[/reply]
Little Nicky is so damn retarded that its hilarious. The poster in his room is a DSOTS poster. I’ve seen it on the internet a few times for a measly 10 bucks… I should buy one!
