‘Moon’. A decent sci-fi from David Bowie’s son Duncan Jones (formerly Zowie Bowie). Stars Sam Rockwell as the sole operator of an energy plant on the moon that produces a new helium that provides most of the energy on Earth in the future. His character has spent 3 years, in solitude, working at the job so its only a matter of time before his mind starts to slip. Kevin Spacey provides the voice of the computer/robot that helps him with stuff.
It was aiming to be a decent psychological story but then it got a bit ridiculous (clones and such) and while it was being vague enough to make it appear to be the work Rockwell’s hallucinations it then became too literal and thus unrealistic. But still it was enjoyable and not a bad job by Rockwell. Some funny moments too e.g. his alarm clock rings to the Chesney Hawke’s ‘I am the one and only’ Was a nice touch.
I’m watching a movie right now called “evilenko” it stars malcom mcdowell as this serial killer that took out alot of people during the 80’s in ukraine, while it was still under the soviet unions control. Really an excellent movie. But i can’t give it a straight up decision since i’m still watching it. But so far fantastic. it came out in 2004 so it’s rather recent
Coraline was amazing. Even though they added a main charecter to the story that wasn’t in the book, i think it actually made more sense, since otherwise it’d be a girl running around the house alone most of the movie with thought balloons or something for the dialog.
I saw the directors cut of Watchmen and give it the thumbs up too. Having read the book and the past record of people fucking up alan moore’s property i had low expectations going in so maybe that had something to do with it
Now i’m just finishing up watching the dvds for the first season of “the mighty boosch”. great brittish comedy series. The only complaint i have it i’ve been waiting for this to get on netflix for ages and the one skit that got me in the show “old james” wasn’t on it. but there’s 3 seasons of the show, so…
[reply]Just found out Ridley Scott is to make a new Alien prequel. I hope they incorporate the space jockey from the first one. Tentative release date 2011.
Really? A prequel? As in…how the ship with all the alien pods landed on that planet in the first place?
Hmmmm…could be interesting.

This idea has been floating around for a while (ever since the silly Alien Resurrection and the other pointless cash-ins). There was talk of Scott and Cameron working together on it but that was always a bit unlikely. Scott has involved himself in so much shit over the past few years, check out his imdb page and you’ll see what I’m talking about (granted many of them are producer or exec. producer roles, but still he’s in his 70s now). A prequel would be the only logical move for another proper Alien film. There should have been no more sequels after Alien3.
On a different note: just watched ‘Dawn of the Dead’ (1978) again for umpteenth time. I love that film.
Saw ‘My Own Private Idaho’ for the first time the other night. No great shakes to be honest. River Phoenix was good and some good photography but overrated otherwise and far too aware of itself, like many works of “hip” European directors.
Finally got around to watching Mondo Cane the other night. An important film in a lot of ways, but not very good. And extremely manipulative in its presentation.
I have City of God at home. Supposed to be fantastic, so I’m looking forward to it.

Hated the Shakespearean dialogue. Very annoying. When Van Sant makes a good film, he scores (Drugstore Cowboy), when he fails…he REALLY fails. This one is no exception.
I saw that doc that just came out called Nine inch nails and the industrial uprising… for the most part the first 20 minutes is a brief overview of the early bands and then it’s a nin documentary… but at least it has interviews with chris vrenna and rochard patrick throughout. So it’s not just one of those lame docs with just journalists and nobody from the band talking… plus there’s a bonus section with a 20 minute genesis interview which is great as well… i got it from netflix
then i saw the new resident evil animated movie. It’s got the look of that final fantasy movie that came out a while back but it’s well resident evil… and it’s surprising really good and not at all cheesy
I just got through watching the first season of Dollhouse. Absolutely an amazing show. Started off a little slow to get the idea of what the hell the plotline was but by mid-episode you know the basics and like all the stuff Joss Whedon writes it’s VERY addictive.
Saw “Blindness” just a couple hours ago. What a headfuck that is.
Blech! the only redeeming quality was I got to see a couple of tits!
First off that whole “prison segment” was unessecary as soon as cell block D started “charging” for food the bitch with the sight shoulda squashed that right away but she didn’t she ended up blowing the main bad guy and let one girl be beat to death for failing to fuck good enough!
when they were out in the city, why were they walking all over the place letting her peeps trip over everything?? hello drive some where! ugh! I hate it when a movie has such potential and then falls flat. that lady could’ve been a modern day super hero and yet she barely did anything… very disappointing!

Funny games with Tim Roth And Naomi Watts. this movie was so infuriating. the kinda movie you’re just angry all the way through it!! from the time the 2 “nice boys” won’t leave the house in the beginning all the way to the end!![mad][pirate]

I lost a lot of respect for Haneke when he made this film as it is a remake of a film he already made, the only main difference being the different language. Overwhelming ego tripping. And the film was shite to boot.
Just finished Midnight Meat Train
pretty good suspenseful movie, with bucket loads of CGI blood. Not really into gore but the suspense made it a decent movie. The main bad guy had great presence with his silver butcher hammer. Kind of a hokey ending though! I’d still recommend it though.

Saw ‘Identity’ last night, what a loopy film. It was ok I suppose until the end when it suddenly tries to resolve everything and walk away with an evil ending.
Re watched ‘The Wild Bunch’ the other night again. What a classic. One of if not the best western around.
