Kind of a broad sweep to say “art house” film. I don’t even get what that means. Does that mean only a couple thousand will see it, or will art fags be the only audience for it?
Granted, it did only play in indie houses (being rated NC-17 will do that), but I don’t think that was necessarily the intention. I would definitely say that, although it isn’t a “seedy NYC film” that I like (Panic In Needle Park, Bad Lieutenant, etc) it’s very in the vein of “Last Exit To Brooklyn” or even “Wild At Heart”, which isn’t surprising since the former was written by the same guy.
The entire film was so overblown, so staged, so pretentious, clumsy and awkward - with some of the hokiest dialogue this side of M Night Shyamalan to boot.
Give it a wide miss. Go see The Panic In Needle Park instead.
It was as real as real could be, and yet so many of the top comments were about how fake it was and there wasn’t enough blood, etc. etc.
I’m not saying there wasn’t enough blood. I’m saying there was virtually no blood. you’d figure yer there about to die your adrenaline is pumping huge there’s no way theree isn’t gonna be so little amount of blood.
Not only that, the camera pans away during the actual decapitation. The dude doesn’t struggle at all, they basically used what looked like a dinner knife… and perhaps the people who would/could debunk it have ethics and morals and refuse to watch it… I know my parents wouldn’t.
I saw the dude who shot himself in the head live on tv(Budd Dwyer, the filter song hey man nice shot is written after) bleed more than nick berg.
I’m not basing my thoughts on hollywood special effects, I don’t really watch gory shit so It’s not like I’m desensitized. Hell I cover my eyes for most of Tosh.0’s show now, which should show how not desensitized I am.
If the Nick Berg thing was a fake, I GUARANTEE you it would have already been exposed as such. It would have brought a bit of peace to his family if nothing else.
Well when it first hit the net there was a lot of “it’s fake” talk. And Maybe the family was briefed and paid-off. we don’t know. Like I said, I’m not discounting the dude is dead, I’m sure he is, he just didn’t die by decapitation.
I kind of want to watch A Serbian Film just to see how much of it I can get through. I consider myself rather desensitized, but given what I’ve read about it I’m guessing I could get 20 minutes in.
Don’t know if I’d watch it but I want to own it, just cause I like to own fucked up shit that’s been banned. I have like 3 different versions of Salo. I own irreversible, and I stand Alone.

me too. Haven’t watched it on blu ray yet though, don’t know if I will. I also own the criterion DVD special edition that was released about a year before the criterion blu ray release (I haven’t watched that either). I also own the BFI version and a bootleg version that has a painting of passolini in sunglasses on the front.

[reply][reply]Disney’s upcoming Salo: 240 Days of Sodom is gonna be fucking bullshit.
I heard the script for that was really goofy [rolleyes]

Perhaps.
I heard it was twice as shitty as the first film.[/reply]
well what do you expect from a “minni” film? expect nothing less than “pooh!”

Never heard of “enter the void.” the last one I thought he did was irreverisble. And there was definitely a message with that one. Is enter th void as graphic as irreverisble?

your good great flick, and as in Irreversible…there is a message,(e.g…dont let a woman walk amongst wolves at night)…here its a bit different…some philosophy and question marks, but thats what makes gaspar stand out from all the shock guys…he has something to say…when there is something disturbing in his film you can always snap and notice who is holding the cam…and logic, reason, and the temporarl play a role.
Enter the Void is definitely worth watching. Personally I found it to be a bit long, but the cinematography will keep you hooked. You might want to skip the opening credits if you’re an epileptic, however.
ETV is a decent effort at delivering a tried story in a different way; it’s stylish but not in a ‘I’m too aware of myself/Tarantino’ kind of way. But in saying that it’s not as good as it’s held up to be (and it does tick on a bit too long).
