Just found out a childhood friend, let’s call him “Mitch,” whom I considered a brother, was caught at a BLM rally throwing rocks at a group of protesters screaming “FUCK BLACK LIVES.” He’s since been arrested and charges are pending.
I’m glad I have two parents at opposite ends of the nation, both of different creed and origin, who allowed me the freedom to kinda gallivant all over the place and let me figure the world out. Imagine if I had stayed in that backwater town. Imagine if I was complicit, or worse, supportive. I might be throwing rocks alongside Mitch. Imagine, though, if the opposite happened and Mitch’s very Mexican friend somehow stopped Mitch from listening to his complete monster of a father and helped Mitch become his own man.

2 cops pushed this old dude to the ground. He started bleeding out of his ear from it. The two cops that did the pshing were suspended and all 57 of their colleagues resigned in protest of the punishment of their fucked actions.
I’m pretty sure cops have contracts with their departments… I mean what else would the Police Unions be for? I hope these fuckers ALL GO DOWN for violations of their contracts and the 2 officers that did the pushing have charges filed… They assaulted him saw he was bleeding… did they radio for an ambulance or just walk on by not caring if he died?

I said this same thing to my wife. This is a PR nightmare.
She explained to me, that this is basically what the “defund the police” is about. To which I reiterated, they need a better rallying cry, the slogan is a PR nightmare.
They definitely need a complete overhaul. Bring in independent companies/people, not this IAB bullshit, but independents that come in and look at personnel records of the cops on the force and fire and promote as needed. but this shit needs to be taken care of because we do need police but we can’t keep it in the capacity that it currently exists.

They need to de-militarize the police. They do not need tanks and all the military grade weapons they have been acquiring over the years. I remember calls for this when Ferguson happened.

Oh, yeah! Big time. Really it’s fall out from the 80’s. Hell, one of my favorite Queensryche songs, Empire, is about how little funding the police get in the wake of the “drug and gang epidemics”. Which, if you look at the crime stats for that era, petty crime wasn’t a real problem, but the, mass hysteria and hyper sensationalism of the news made it seem that way. Still an awesome sounding song but the lyrics are totally wrong (well, right on point for the information that we all had at the time but wrong as fuck in hindsight.)

I wonder if those numbers are understood accurately when it comes to federal dollars on law enforcement or if that %age represents ONLY federal law enforcement programs like the CIA, FBI and Secret Service, which means those agancies got a FUCKTON of cash if they were 6% of the budget. I thought local and state police were, like teachers, funded through state taxes.
anyway, 60.6 Million for all precincts 30 years ago versus 18 BILLION today? I’m no math whiz but I’d venture to say that’s more than a 3 1/2% inflation jump that happened over the last 30 years.
Also, Defund the police doesn’t sound so radical when you consider that we’ve been defunding education for how long now?
