It has gone waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too far now to sit on the fence my friend.
At the risk of sounding like a turd… but I reiterate, I weighed my two cents in from a scientific perspective, not one that invited digressive and inane name calling! From what I perceive anyway, fence sitting is nicer than flagpole sitting.
Fuck, I hate that fucking song.
I’ll be Mussolini
I’m going to be massively flamed for this.
But… Fascism in it’s purest form was an Italian ideology and institution. It never revolved around race theory to begin with; moreso, a national identity in which anyone could participate (I shit you not; there were Jews in the Fascist bureaucracy pre-Axis agreement). It only digressed toward the anti-Semitism once we sold our soul to the Germans to protect our arses (something every Italian should be, and remains, ashamed of; the general citizenry at this time was pissed about it, anyway). Anti-semitism was not part of Fascist ideology in it’s purest form.
Hell, Mussolini wanted to align Italy with France in 1930, but was basically overruled by his own bureaucracy. Keep in mind all that anti-Semitic Teutonic diatribe only came to prominence when the ‘Prussians’ lost the 1871 war against France. Jews were scapegoated then by the Germans, and ever since. Consider the fact that Nazi Germany cannot be considered Fascist in any true sense of the word; just like China can’t be considered truly communist. The Nazi’s were an opportunistic almagamation of a series of social control methods extracted from a disparate number of political ideologies; democracy included. I therefore relegate the Nazi’s to the status of politcal irrelevance (however, they are still historically relevant for all the wrong reasons, obviously).
Did Mussolini do a lot of good things for Italy? Whether anyone likes it or not, yes. Don’t get me wrong, acts of brutality did occur, but generally only in the later stages of the war, and usually at the behest of the Germans.
Up until then, the most ‘extreme’ punishments meted out by ‘Fascists’ were not by Fascists themselves, but by their followers; to the extent, that there were fears by the very Fascist bureaucracy itself that these ‘random acts’ could well jeopardise their tenuous grip on power in the early stages, and generally discouraged it. When they did exert force, it was only against dissidents and generally entailed imprisonment and the stripping of their liberty.
Is that the right thing to do? Is that acceptable?
Universally speaking, no. But, how is it our Western democracies have engaged in this behaviour, and worse, against their own people? Even if it is supposedly justified in a ‘state of emergency’?
At the very least, these measures meted out by Mussolini were a dark necessity; Italy was disunified, had no healthcare or education systems, and was in a perpetual state of violence; I’ve heard plenty of stories from the old country about how you couldn’t even take a train without the increased prospect of getting mugged or whatever.
Consider the power we give to the state; read Thomas Hobbe’s ‘Leviathan’ for more insight on this. The reality is, the natural state of man is one that often digresses into disorder and war. Hence, some institution is required to moderate the violent nature of man which in turn requires a forsaking of certain rights to maintain the power of this ‘state’.
In the West, we shouldn’t (but we do [mad]) have to forsake many of our rights to maintain this state; we have a democratic process instituted to the extent of allowing for civic discourse and participation. However, consider what pre-Fascist Italy was; to galvanise the state, this sacrificing of ‘rights’ was needed to a far greater extent to consolidate and guarantee the institution of a state; and from a state, comes order; you cannot deny this.
I put this in bold text, because I want everyone to know this; I am not attempting to be controversial or fuck with anyone. If you find what I’m saying is offensive, that’s fine; tell me your point of view, because I’m open minded enough to be receptive to any points of view that don’t digress into personal attacks.
For that reason, I am able to articulate certain elements of ‘Fascism’ as much as I am able to discredit race theory. At the same time, there is a LITANY of things I see WRONG with Fascism. I remain utterly open minded, without apologies. I believe in nothing, and I follow nothing blindly. If you are going to flame me, so be it, but bear in mind I’m open to whatever it is you have to elucidate me with.
To Voidhead:
Why is it ok for G.W. Bush to be portrayed as a monkey in the media, but not Barack Obama?
I understand there is history involved. I understand that the statement invokes generations of “white” racism against “blacks”.
The reality is, however, that if we ever want to grow up and stop thinking in terms of race, political correctness (along with racism) has to go out the window.
I generally disagree with you on a lot of things, but Voidhead does make a good point here.
Don’t get me wrong, I disagree that political correctness has to go out the window totally.
I believe there should be a political sensitivity. There is no doubt certain cultures have borne the brunt of the policies or injustices of another culture.
There is no doubt certain peoples have copped a lot of shit because of the way they look, speak or think, and it’s often relative to culture. You can’t to throw political correctness out of the window, tread on peoples toes and think that’s going to fix the problem.
But at the same time, extreme political correctness and hypersensitivity DEFINITELY exacerbates the problem; it ends up feeding into racism.
Look at ‘wogs’ in Australia for example. My parents and grandparents copped a lot of shit when they first came here. But now, we don’t even consider the term wog offensive; we laughed at it. It became a big cultural joke. And, in effect, it lost it’s power. It’s a way of really sticking it to the man.
Laughter; the most disabling and empowering emotion in existence. The laughing Buddha. The laughing Jesus.
But of course homosexuals are not yet at the same position as blacks where the word “faggot” has come to carry as much weight and be as much of a politically incorrect no-no as the word “nigger”, so in PC land it’s totally ok (albeit childish and inane) for Toot to say something is “gay” (read: "stupid) but not for me to say a “black” person looks like a monkey. Idiotic really.
Hate to say it Toot, but how come you haven’t responded to this? Voidhead does make a good point, and you know it. You’ve talked non stop about racial prejudice and injustice, yet… you haven’t addressed this ‘issue’.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t go around telling people what’s right and wrong and what they should do in everyday life, but when other people do…
and don’t hold it against me tho, Toot, I still love you and want to birth your children through my anal cavity.
What do you think the appropriate gesture should be?
To carmangary:::
first priority for education and health; with regards to education, not a ‘well, if they wanna go to uni or college, let em go in with half the normal requirements’; just the appropriate institutions which cater to their culture and eventually assimilate them toward higher education (if anyone twists my use of the word assimilate, fuck them, because it goes hand in hand with equality; concessions do not).
Listen you whiny pack of bitches, if you think Voidhead’s comment was racist then say your bit and then be done with it. We don’t need page after page of the fuckin’ history of the world and everything the white man has done to exploit indigenous people over the last 300 or so years as summed up by some pissed off Ministry fans. Those who are saying stupid and obnoxious things are obviously just taking the piss and looking to wind you up. Don’t take the bait. You’re provoking them even further into doing so. It’s fucking childish and going nowhere quickly.
WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN TO OOOOOOLLLLSEEEENNN!
I have tried to avoid childish namecalling, or any bullshit.
I will say it again; I’ve just offered a rational, open minded and historically and scientifically conscious perspective.
There is no bias in what I am saying; hence, noone here can accuse me of taking sides.
