PA Trying To Diss Godflesh? Surely They Must DIE!!!

I definitely see Big Black’s influence all over much of Ministry’s early work, but I’m curious which song people think Sigmata is modeled after, nothing directly comes to mind off hand. Maybe the track Deep Six?

There is a Big Black track that sounds almost exactly like Stigmata. I can’t remember which one it is.
That said, Ministry made their stuff sound professional whereas Albini and his admirers think sounding like ass is a point of pride.

Drat, at various points in time I’ve heard Big Black’s entire catalog and I still can’t figure out which one it is. Guess it’s time to give em all another spin.

I like Steve Albini’s lo-fi production values on Big Black. I actually thought Ministry was trying to imitate that a bit on Dark Side of the Spoon, Kaif sounds like it has terrible tape hiss running underneath the track which reminds me a bit of old Big Black.

"we’re half way there…WHOA,livin’ on prayer “i seem to remember a 70’s song maybe ac/dc that has the stigmata verse (duh-na-na na, hi-hat hi-hat hi-hat hi-hat snare!) and the l.vox goin on about somethin’ doest his ring a bell for anyone ? i’m almost positive its ac/dc…and as for big black i remember in the book ‘american hardcore’ albini, who at the time wrote for a chicago 'zine, going on about al producing a ‘noise project’ (ended up being twitch/big sexy land/pailhead) around the time of WS (well actually ‘everyday is halloween’ and steve goes on about 'if he makes this project one tenth as wimpy as ministry i’ll castrate him and feed him his balls on a silver paltter” i guess cos of WS/halloween he pegged al for a pussy instead of lunatic at the time this caused alot of jabs in the press and i believe (maybe chris c. could clarify) a free nose job for steve

p.s. - sidenote i believe this, to be one of the most chaotic performances i’ve ever seen www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-A6czKpDuU waddya guy’s think ?

It’s a track off ‘The Hammer Party’ that Al ripped off to make Stigmata. I can’t remember which one though.

He’s even admitted that, after Twitch, he wanted Ministry to sound as intense as Big Black.

Also, in regards to Melvins:

i think its pretty whacked, but i don’t think the performance is good. it’d be cool, if trent was dead-on even tho its crazy, but i do like how he trips his guitar player when he’s getting back onstage. I like that guitar player. I think trent got him when he (guitar player) was working on circus de sole (sp?). not sure. anyone else wanna chime in?

Ah, the Woodstock '94 show. So famously chaotic that it caused David Letterman to have a brief obsession with NIN (“I like The Nine Inch Nails! Paul, can you get them to come on the show?”).
The guitar player is Marietta Georgia’s own Robin Finck, who left NIN for Cirque de Soleil and GnR, and recently returned to the band.

“Their performance is considered one of the best in the band’s history, despite the band’s opinion that it was one of their worst.”

Fuckin’ emos

i mostly like how it begins with the keyboardist just launching his keyboard ecause the synth guy barely played on the set it took this whole performance to make me realise that they use alot of tape but with ninback then it did not seem to matter, though they use less tape now, something just seems to be missing from there performances (gonna see 'em nov in tulsa hopefully) i hate to say it nut do you think thae fact of trent being sober has affected his live performances?

He left NIN after the downward spiral tour to join Cirque. He’s back now as well as doing double duty for G’n’R. He was discovered by Trent during one of the many times they played the Masquerade here in Atlanta where he was involved with the semi-legendary Impotent Sea Snakes.

They surely liked to break stuff back then.

Finck played on the Fragility ('00) tour as well. There was a bit of a falling out between him and Trent back before ‘With Teeth’ when Trent brought in new members. I remember something Trent said about the new guitarist (circa '04) coming in and pissing on Finck’s shoes then chucking them out “where they belong” (most likely speaking figuratively). But Finck’s back with them again which is a good thing because the guitarist NIN had last year was a total emo loser.

That footage from Woodstock is quite different to what NIN live is like now, as regards Trent anyway. If someone did what he did there on a NIN stage nowadays he’d probably fire him straight away (or beat them up considering he’s been a bruiser for the past few years). The douche guitarist with NIN I saw last year tried to throw his guitar around at the end of the show and it was the lamest thing Id seen in a while.

DEVASTATING!!! Is the dvd a live Godflesh set of the SOLAH period? I’ve been gagging for an official Godflesh dvd since forever…the In All Languages dvd was a bit of a let down due to having fuck all on it?

Do you have a link for this info???

No more info released yet. As soon as I know something I will let you all know.

I’m going to go out on a limb and risk an all out assault by saying that I think that Swans (in their prime) were better than either Ministry or Godflesh ever were.

And not just slightly better but ENORMOUSLY so.

see, I’m not a big Swans fan, I like only two of their records.
