I’ve never bought a NIN album. Never even considered it.
Not about to start changing that now…

I hope this shit leaks soon or they stream the album before it’s released like HTDA did.
That’d be pretty sweet. I’m fine with waiting though. I’ve heard two songs already to tie me over.
I can handle the wait but it’s a pain in the ass. I know it’ll make me appreciate the final product more once I hear it all the way though. I’m almost tempted to not listen to the album at all until it’s shipped to my place… but I doubt I have that sort of self control.

Okay…? Why bother telling everyone this inside of a thread dedicated to the new NIN album? Do you want an award or something for not buying an album made by a band that you don’t like?
You only have to wait a couple weeks longer.
As I have said before:
PHM is teen TR. PHM has its moments, but The Fragile is TR all grown up.
NIN live is much better than the recorded albums.
[reply]Don’t forget the deathless poetry of “That’s What I Get.”
Wait til you hear the demo if you haven’t already. The instrumental on it fits the lyrics better than the Skinny Puppy knockoff on Pretty Hate Machine. I actually prefer this version.
I really hate to beat the dead horse on him and SP, but there are a couple moments besides Down In It where he’s got that sound that people neglect to mention. The “Dig It” guitar comes back in “Kinda I Want To.” Also the chorus of Ringfinger is where it’s at it’s worst.[/reply]
I was referring more to how wangsty his lyrics can come off when they’re read separately, not how they sound when you hear them while listening to the song.
Frankly, though, the vast majority of rock and pop lyrics seem, uh, less than inspired when read on their own. But that’s all right, because songwriting has been rather different from poetry since the Medieval era or invention of the printing press, depending on who you ask.

No way, you don’t know him. The Fragile is Trent all fucked up, Year Zero is Trent all grown up spritually, mentally, and the SLIP is his relapse back to being fucked up

In my opinion the Slip isn’t at all about him relapsing or falling back into being “fucked up”. It seems to be more about the character/him questioning his relevance and looking back on the past, what he is now, and the fact that despite being “better” he’s still not as happy as he wants to be or how he feels that he’s supposed to be.
As for the live shows being better than the albums - they’re both very different experiences.

What’s your problem?

I just don’t see the point in coming into a thread to announce that, I guess. At least make fun of the band and say something funny or clever at the band’s expense.

I’ll start. NIN are boring these days [:)] I’ve given up on them totally/am looking forward to the new album. I’m sick of being disappointed/always hope for the best. The last time i saw them they were so boring i swore i’d never see them again/am seeing them live this Wednesday. I’m conflicted!

There’s a photo on the Closure DVD of Trent with a really goofy smile, so he’s obviously a total poseur. Also, his nose looks like a ski slope.
dat nigga smiling? pffft… fuckin poser.
I know, right? He’s doesn’t drink anymore either. What a pretentious douche! Might as well force my way into the discussion of people who might actually care about nin, and let them know how much I think they suck.
I like when I hear about new NIN releases, because I can add them to my list of albums I didn’t buy by NIN. I’ve got quite the list, now! There’s a bunch of albums, some videos . . . there’s even some really rare imports and bootlegs on the list that I didn’t get. It’s quite the collection.
but I doubt I have…self control.
Like anybody here needed this clarified.

I was a completist up to a certain point, i had every single, all the albums, videos, dvds. They were my favourite band for years. Now i just don’t bother because i don’t think he’s really done anything worth buying recently. Year Zero was the last one i bought, 6 long years ago. It was ok, nothing amazing. The stuff after that, including HDTA, was boring, heard-it-all-before, treading water, fucking wank.
I was just being a smartass in response to Adam and Olsen’s sidebar. Pretty Hate Machine is the only album I ever bought, and I guess I didn’t technically buy it . . . . I got it along with a bunch of other tapes from the old Columbia House Music Club. Remember that? You’d choose 12 tapes/CD’s and then laugh for the next couple years as they’d send you continued letters threatening action because you owed them whatever it was they thought you owed them?
I’m pretty apathetic to NIN. Occasionally I hear something that’s sort of groovy and I kind of dig, but usually I just shrug my shoulders and wonder why so many people are gay for the band. I’ve heard they’re great live. Whatever. I’ll never know. I saw them in '91, but they obviously weren’t impressive enough to get me to increase my collection beyond one cassette.
I do think it’s funny when people get really personal in their attacks on Trent. Honestly, he seems like a really solid dude to me. In interviews I’ve watched and read and in reports over how he’s tried to do right by his fans, and in . . . well, pretty much everything, he just seems like a really legitimately good guy. But maybe that’s selling out, I don’t know. If I was to see them live I would definitely prefer he be the same fishnet tights wearing, skinny, Heroin-addicted, tantrum-throwing, psychotic jackass from the hey day.

Then you and I are on a similar trajectory. Over the years I have picked up the odd album out of curiosity. But the music never really moved me in a serious fashion. It just never connected. I always ended thinking - “Yeah I guess it’s ok. But I wish they had changed this … to that…especially the lyrics. If only it were less angsty and goofy”.
I don’t hate them and I may pick up the new one - once again “out of curiosity”.

Hey, can you please stop following me around and responding to every post I make in every thread with irrelevant responses of anger all because you are once again butthurt that I hurt your feelings somewhere else?
If you’d like me to sink to your level I will. Just continue on as you are and it shouldn’t be a problem. You seem to take your internet very seriously so it shouldn’t be difficult in breaking you down on here. But I figured I’d ask beforehand so that you have an opportunity to shut the fuck up and drop your pissy little grudge, you whiny twat.
It’s not fair to anyone else one here (or myself
) because you have nothing new or interesting to say anymore. So, shut up. Nobody is laughing with you or thinks that you’re the bad ass you’re trying to come off as. You just seem like a sore loser and a lonely, bored, high strung, crybaby, who shouldn’t have access to the internet.
It’s your choice though.
Thanks!
