Wow… that’s sad (not that I’m a ZZ Top fan), but that’s sad.
I’d really rather hear him sing off key than listen to a tape while he pretends.

Amazing news. I’mma withhold judgment until I hysically hear it myself, but it sure as hell SOUNDS promising.
Welcome to the forum!
(DSOTS seems to be the most polarizing record in the Ministry canon. I love it, hahah.)
i always wondered how much help his vocals have live. but when i saw them on the culatour he fucked up so what and sang the 3rd verse twice, so i know he was singing live for that one at least.
good point about him working with someone else. ever since paul left he hasn’t had that right hand man bringing their own ideas with him. i mean he works with metal guitarists but they pretty much write the same way he does these days. he needs someone out of the box.
And yeah, lip-synching on the last tour (and how many other ones?) is just too lame for words. I remember an interview with Ministry back in the early 90’s where Al was slamming bands who play with a backing tape… he said something along the lines of “sure, they can climb up on top of the PA speakers and dance around like an idiot, because the tape is running and it doesn’t matter”… now he does it. …awesome!
That’s a damn lie!!!
(Al can’t climb the speakers anymore and he can no longer dance.)
I like the reggae-esque track, it was different (like At The Top) and I’m hoping that someone works on lyrics with him like the old days of Ogre and Connelly
That’s the thing. Those ideas work for RevCo, coz it was a playground for silly little ideas which aren’t all that bad, but which don’t really fit Ministry’s sound.
That was the beauty of all the side projects. You knew it was all Al and Paul, but there was a different vibe to each of them. Certain songs didn’t work for Ministry, but were good for Lard. Hell, even Programming the Psychodrill had it’s own sound… if anything, Linger Ficken Good era RevCo sounded more like PTP than what RevCo actually sounded like before it turned into a complete joke of a band.
So the last few years has been Ministry sounding like a much heavier version of Lard. I could have respected the stuff more if Al just ended the Ministry brand and said ‘this is a new project, new band, new members, new attitude’.
And as for the reggae excerpt on the video? I still stand by the fact it sounded stupid and cheesy.
And as for lip synching, it’s probably a sign bands should fucking give up. If your voice can’t hack it any more, get off the stage and make room for some new blood. I’m sick of seeing old farts whoop and holler every time Axl Rose comes to time when the reality is GnR suck harder than they ever have (they just toured here) and a lot of the fans should quit masturbating naked to their copies of Appetite for Destruction and save money on babysitters for the one night of the year Axl Rose comes to their town to do this:

grmpysmrf, that must shit you as a GnR fan…?
Wow. That little faggy dance move there looks like it was ripped right out of the Cheesy 80’s Playbook. It looks like he was kickin’ off a rousing number with KIDS INC or something.
Yeah guy’s cut him some slack he’s in his 50’s smokes like a chimney etc. i admit i was alil’ disappointed when they played breathe live in o3 and the chorus was sampled then i watched some live vids, the keyboardist was doing alot of the live vox (way different distortion on his parts),and john has a mic up there too so maybe it was that.
It looks like he was kickin’ off a rousing number with KIDS INC or something.
Wow. I thought I was the only one on the planet that still remembers that show.

I may not remember my wife’s birthday, my phone number, or even directions to my own house, but if you need a hopelessly retarded and obscure 80’s pop culture reference, I’m on it!
If you can’t keep up with the songs live, you have no business touring. The backing track is his safety net. He can’t hack it anymore, so he figures it’s fine to do what he can before wearing down, and letting the backing track fill in the rest of the dots (most of them).

I was never a fan of Live and Let die (the original or the GnR version) so that Reggae break really doesn’t hurt or help the song. Although If I’m listening to a boot and I can’t get around to changing the song that “give me some reggae” line is fun to shout as if I’m singing along. but yeah it’s pretty bad.

can’t say I disagree with any of that but the last, though I have always preferred the side projects to Ministry proper outside of LORAH… to me he’s just looking at everything as a joke, when that used to be just Revco from BSQ onwards… plus he no longer does any side projects so any song written seems to just get labeled ministry. If the last few Ministry albums had Jello vocals or Ian even they’d be better. I really couldn’t even listen to Relapse on preview without turning it off. I guess I’m just a bit more excited that it’s not metal. At The Top barely had Als involvement anyway.
for the edification of this forum my musical likes are along the line of Akbars.
what do you mean he doesn’t do side projects anymore? revco 2010, his christmas single and the horribly disappointing buck satan album. and that’s exactly why (after thinking about it) i don’t think the new material - no mater what direction he goes - will be any good. buck satan was different, but complete and utter shit.
as for the lip-syncing, i definitely noticed as well. personally from what i’ve seen, i don’t have a problem with the way he uses it.
i don’t think there has ever been a more pathetic story than al jourgensen’s epic decline.
The “Breathe” shouting parts are samples on In Case… by the looks of things. I noticed that years later Al started to pretend to sing along with samples, or sometimes actually sing along. I don’t think it’s that big a deal when the sample is of a singer shouting as loud as they can but there could be a better way around it to keep it more live but I reckon Ministry were always into the rigidity and repetition of sampling as a an aesthetic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNCeL7oepIM

revco 2010? sorry I haven’t bought any of those or heard them, last semi ok revco was mostly a lard album called cocked and loaded. Buck Satan has been threatened for 20 years and then he comes out with that? just do a country album. christmas single is a flock of seagulls song, it might as well have been a cover… but I mean Lard, PTP, Acid Horse, Pailhead… but yeah Chris Connelly’s work over the last 5-10 years puts Als to shame… not really kept up with what Paul is doing beyond his hardware…

yeah, i haven’t listened to it either, but it’s still there :p. and that album you’re referring to is actually the revolting cocks “come back album”.
welcome to the forums btw! lol.
well yeah but the only tracks I listen to off it are the Jello tracks so it’s a Lard single lol
