Relapse and FBTE are equally bad to me. I would maybe give a slight, VERY SLIGHT edge to Relapse for Double Tap, Freefall, and the United Forces cover, and I barely like those songs, but they eclipse any piece of crap that was recorded for FBTE.
Hearing Al proclaim “I’m Al Fucking Jourgensen” was one of the most disappointing recorded moments in Ministry’s history. Punch In The Face is un-listenable, from Al’s roardy-roar vocals, to the super-annoying, chopped up, sputtering sound bytes that are some of the worst exercises in sampling in a Ministry song.

Well, that’s an unfortunate assessment.[/reply]
Yeah,I would say so…can’t say I agree…seems a bit harsh but well music is subjective blah blah…I just think FBTE is a fun album with some cool hooks and choruses…it didn’t reinvent the wheel or anything but then the chances of that happening with Ministry these days are slim…all I can do is be happy there are some great unexpected cuts in the new setlists and hope for the best for this new album aside from its incredibly stupid album title…
My guess is no matter what anyone on the board thinks of Ministry these days ,everyone on here will at the very least given it a cursory listen…
I’ll definitely give the new album a listen, although I’m not really expecting much.
Each era of Ministry is a bit different for me. The 80s will always be my favorite. Al covered so much ground and the songwriting and performances were top notch. I can listen to everything from Cold Life to In Case… and never get bored of it.
I’ll revisit the 90s stuff every now and then. There’s some rehashing, but enough fresh ideas to keep it enjoyable.
Everything after Dark Side is really a mixed bag for me. Animositisomina is a great b-sides album (and to be fair, most of it is recycled material from earlier works).
The Bush Trilogy has enough good songs to make one solid album. The rest of the songs aren’t necessarily bad, they’re just not memorable.
Relapse has horrible lyrics and vocals, but the music is actually quite good, some of the best guitar work done for a Ministry record. I appreciate that Al tried to touch upon all of his different styles with FBTE, but the record itself isn’t very good.
The only track I genuinely like on Relapse is “Double Tap.” Otherwise, I only pull it out once in a blue moon to listen to some great guitar work from Scaccia.
I like FBTE. Not top to bottom, but I adore “Change of Luck.” Majesty, Punch, Permawar, and Thanx, But No Thanx are solid in my book.
I don’t mind FBTE at all. A lot better than Relapse was. Relapse had a few songs that I liked (Double Tap, Freefall, etc.). Pretty bad overall. FBTE was kind of a step up compared to the last few. I’ll definitely check out the new one. I’m not too optimistic though. Al’s seems more open to something new-ish, or at least rehashing a familiar sound we haven’t really heard him use in awhile.
Rio Grande Blood and Last Sucker could easily be condensed into a single album. I’d never change anything about HOTM. That’s the last really solid album to come from Al, from start to finish.
Just got a Pledge update that Nuclear Blast will be releasing the album in March 2018. Two songs from the album will be played on upcoming North American tour.
I saw this update too. Not sure what to think about it. On one hand, Nuclear Blast has quite a bit of pull, and I don’t think they’d associate with a bad product. So that’s encouraging.
On the other hand, this leads me to believe that the album is most likely devoid of electronics and will be a speed metal fest.
