Eh, it’s the same old, same old from that guy. It could have done with a few more vocal/melody hooks here and there. Most of those tracks went by without me even remembering how they sounded two seconds later.
And I hate that “breathy” vocal thing he does where he slurs his words. Sounds so try hard.
As for the album, it’s got good production values but it’s just as much of a chore to sit through as the previous three.
This’ll be the first Marilyn Manson record I’m not bothering to purchase.
I don’t know, still digesting it but I feel an evolution and some songs are really hitting me.
“Third Day of a Seven Day Binge” “Deep Six” “Mephistopheles of Los Angeles” is excellent and should be a single for sure.
“Cupid Carries a Gun” “Devil Beneath My Feet” and more are growing on me…
This is definitely him finding himself in a new style that’s really where he’s at rather than trying to be what he was before. I think it’s pretty daring actually. There’s not a single song on here other than “Deep Six” that remotely recalls the heaviness or pacing of past material.
The lyrics are far less cringe-inducing than recent efforts (though a few things do pop here and there still…but some of it is pretty downright poetic if you can decipher what the hell he’s saying…enunciate Manson!)
His voice is flawed, but that was always the case and now he’s really embraced it rather than an over-processed approach.
I think that he’s really finding himself at a more mature phase of his career and I like where it’s going. If I want to hear a more stompy energetic song I can always throw on an older album. I’d rather him be true to himself than something he’s not anymore. And I like where he’s at now.
I think Manson has Jourgensen-Bullshit syndrome. Sufferers tell endless “amusing” tall tales that can’t be verified, and nobody ever really gives enough of a fuck to even bother trying to disprove them. A gold switchblade… yeah, of course you did, Manson, of course you did…
I watched John Wick a couple of times recently, the new Keanu Reeves action film, that Manson “Killing Strangers” track plays in it a coupla times, the film’s scored by Tyler Bates.

It’s called “alcoholism”. I have been rooting for Manson to get clean for years. I have noticed some signs that he’s at least considered it, or admitted that the lifestyle he had for the past few albums (especially ‘High End of Low’) was not working for him…
In a recent Rolling Stone interview he mentioned he’d switched from absinthe to vodka. I know this sounds stupid but coming from an alcoholic myself, that is a sign that he is aware of a problem.
Also in the song “The Devil Beneath My Feet” on the new album, the lyrics clearly relate to a brush with recovery. He talks about rebelling against a “Higher Power” that he perceives is judging him, and saying “you’ll never take me alive”
So it seems he is still clinging to the active alcoholic lifestyle but has the awareness that it’s not working for him anymore.
The record seems more mature and evolved but he is still a drunken ass in interviews, at least in this one, so there is clearly a disconnect.
I’d be interested to see what would happen to him and with his art if he got clean.
That setlist looks like all the hit singles mixed with a few i either don’t know or am not really that fond of. It’s basically Beautiful People and all the songs that sounded sorta anthemic and vaguely like Beautiful People from the subsequent albums. He’s about as relevant as tartan flares these days.
Just listened to the deluxe edition on you tube. All runs together as filler which is still vastly superior to his last several albums. If meh is something for you to get excited about then this album is for you
Babble babble bitch bitch
Once again the pale emperor reigns supreme
And you fools are left in the dust
Scratching your heads
Wondering what raped you
And why you can’t comprehend it

I guess I’m one of the few people that actually liked the last couple of albums and enjoyed those tours.
I’m not very fond of this latest release, much in the way that I wasn’t fond of EMDM.
I didn’t like the majority of Skold’s song structures on that one, and actually don’t like a lot of Tyler’s on this recent one. As of now there’s only one song off of the Pale Emperor that I like from start to finish.
I’m honestly disappointed by this one. Maybe I’ll appreciate it in time?
I dont believe in false or true fans and think thats all very ridiculous voidhead.
He has been pictured recently with that gold switchblade, and he does do unbelievable confrontational shit, etc…
I didnt think the onion article read like a drunkard, but I also hang around a LOT OF DRUNKS…
