I think he has had struggles with opiates, personally. He goes up and down in his strengths performing live…I saw them in 2015 (with voidhead!) and they were decent, but fast forward or rewind a few years back and he/they are terrible due to his shenanigans.
I sincerely hope he gets sober, just so he can re-focus and evaluate what matters to him…nothing wrong with taking a few years off.

It’s always awkward when artists reach middle age. The fan base will naturally mature, but they don’t always expect the music to mature with them. On one hand they want it to, on the other hand they want the same emotional affection they got when they were 16. So the artists are stuck in this middle ground. Do they take on an honest persona with themselves and their craft, or do they still behave and write music for teenagers? It’s really hard to find that middle ground.
I think Trent Reznor is someone that can make that work. Keeping a level of maturity with his recent work, along with a hint of what young listeners might want, then having a different level of class with his film scores.
Marilyn Manson now is not what he/they used to be. In the 90s, it was a real band who worked with some really talented individuals. Everything worked out because it was the right time and place for Gen X/Y. Unfortunately Brian severed ties with the individuals that made the formula work, now he’s making half baked “solo” albums which in my honest opinion are only remotely successful because of the legacy of the earlier classic records.
Manson has new, young fans now because he didn’t grow up or change his ways.
The old ones either moved on or stuck around and new ones came.
Rezonr’s “growing up” to me has always felt more forced and awkward because he still feels he needs to be sinister or something when really he just wants to do tedious sound design and not write rock songs at all it would seem.
Manson just stayed whacked out enough on drugs that he never matured.

When I snuck in during Twisted Sister’s soundcheck in 2005 one of the first things I saw was Jay Jay French making sure his WIG fit, haha. They were in full costume for the show and looked fucking amazing.

Very nice man, reminds me of your average project manager or account exectutive trying to get to the next gig. Seemed nice enough off stage.
Segundo, lets talk about the crowd. This part was curious. If the rocky horror crowd fucked those magic card nerds and gestation occured 5 or 6 times over…this would be that crowd. Lots of drunken cat fights and nipple rings being pulls. It wasnt very attractive it was more like if a florida walmart was transformed into a nazi death camp…this would be the kumbaya moment.

Marilyn Manson Band. So they took a page out of the old slayer play book and put up a sheet to hide the stage and thing dropped it. The overall production was ok, there seem to be some longer than expected gaps in time between songs. This was mainly due to mary changint his outfit alot. One minute he is a goth, then a slut, then a bird, then a football player and so on…
The setlist was fine with me. It was not that long about 11 or 12 songs from memory. The sound was good too. That may have more to do with the production team.
I didnt hear any flaws in what they were playing. I am really the first to pick up on weither or not they are fucking up their own songs.
Manson did get hit 2 times in the face with cups of ice. I was convinced he would just call it a day right there. But he did the show and at the end called out the guy. I guess they had video going and before the encore went back and watched who threw the ice.
Overall this a great show. as long as you didnt turn around to see what was grinding a baby into you.
