Screw those guys, Void. The fact that some pissy little boys get their panties in a wad because you’re doing what you’re doing is only a testament to your awesomeness.
It is pretty weak though, just how personal some people make this stuff. I know I’m relatively new around here but I’ve never seen Void crap on anyone unprovoked and even when people are taking potshots at him he generally lets it slide and doesn’t stoop to the same level. I don’t know if it’s jealousy or if it’s some douchey fratboy power trip thing, but it’s really pretty disgusting and embarrassing to witness.
Anyway, Void, do what you will, but if you want my advice and take on it . . . just keep doing your thing and ignore the haters. Your stuff is different and some people (in fact, most people) won’t get it or like it. Ironically, some of those people are into even less popular and listenable stuff . . . but I digress.

I think maybe (and I’m only speculating) that some people here get jizzed off over the amount of attention void pays to Manson and the fact that he has seemingly tried to create his own Manson persona instead of doing something original. I know I’ve had private discussions with others here who say that void seems to post a new thread every time Manson so much as picks his nose. He also bombards us with “publicity” shots of himself acting like a Manson protege - all dolled up in emo/glam type gear etc.
I dunno - it doesn’t bum me out. It is a little funny sometimes. And it’s ok sometimes to poke a little fun at him. He knows (at least as far as I’m concerned) that it’s hardly personal. I think he likes the attention it brings.

I don’t believe in originality and never denied Manson’s influence on me. Manson himself was supposed to be “just an Alice Cooper for the 90s” right?
He has also borrowed heavily from a number of artists. Like any artist, he is an amalgamation of his influences. However, because he succeeds at being iconic on a level that most artists cannot/do not want to attain, it is difficult to be influenced by him and not be accused of copying.
The concept of originality is a total crock of shit. It just shouldn’t be to the point where it’s blatant copying. Maybe I have been guilty of that in the past. I think Manson has too. The Jodorowsky references in ‘Born Villain’ are IMO an example of this.
This new band Baba bin Yaga will be much more different from Manson’s sound than Nursing Home was. Also keep in mind part of the similarity is that I am also influenced by the artists which influenced Marilyn Manson (the band):
Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Bauhaus, Big Black etc.
I started this thread because I was curious of people’s thoughts on the ‘Born Villain’ video. I was quite critical of it but also enjoyed it.

He’s a bit like P Orridge in that he tries far too hard to intellectualize everything he does. Everything has to be a “statement”, as in “I am an important artist and I am pushing boundaries that few artists will ever push” - then goes off a makes the same old clip with the same old goth/fascist/bondage/fetish/nazi/halloween dressup imagery as the last clip. It’s pretty laughable. And pretty bubble gum. He’'s still shocking the same old people with the same old gag. He should fuck off.

He’s got all this support and resources at his disposal and he’s failed to do anything significant for years.

I don’t think he’s “gone largely backward,” though. If he did that it would be an improvement.
He’s kinda like Al. Had good collaborators, but chased them all away. And now goes in circles thinking that’s what the kids and old fans want. Haven’t heard the new song yet (it got yanked). Geordie said the new album was supposed to be a punk-ish mechanical animals, but he didn’t seem so sure of that. Manson should man-up and try something else. You can still be a “character”, but musically, you could eventually venture in other territory. It’s only been almost 20 years afterall. He’ll eventually turn into the coker out Robert Smith though. Only difference, Robert Smith can still write a few good tunes.
