“Bought” tickets, now thats one thing I’ve never done…cool!
Saw Peter Gabriel last night. Excellent all around. Plenty of new songs, deep cuts and classics.
I saw Filter, Ministry, Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie on the 23rd.
Tickets said doors at 6. So I got in the building at 6:20 and Filter was just finishing their set!! So, all I got was Hey, Man, Nice Shot. Granted, it was the most bad ass version I’ve ever heard of that song, but woulda been nice to catch the whole set since I was there primarily for them and Ministry. Ministry sounded great as always. band was tight, Al seemed in good spirits.
Alice Cooper, holy shit, I knew this guy is an Icon, but I’ve never heard anything beyond Nice Guy and School’s Out (and that one time I listened to the DaDa album and wanted to get it but found out it’s crazy expensive. so i gave up.) Damn, Alice cooper is 76 years old and can still bring a bad ass show. His voice is phenomenal, even at 76 , he’s limber and gets around the stage easily. His set was so good I’ll be tracking down albums. Billion dollar babies and hey stoopid were stand outs for me. but the crazy never saw that coming event of the night was Rob Zombie. His stage show is nothing short of spectacular. I’ve never been a zombie fan. He just kinda seemed like the wannabe kid that rips off the Misfits’ ideas and ministry’s look and sound. but I’ll give it to Rob zombie his stage show makes all those “meh” songs completely listenable. Zombie is not a listen to a cd/record/radio band they are a show up and watch band. Ginger fish is drumming for him now and his fucking drum riser is exactly that, a riser, it rises 100 ft in the air and dude just wails on those skins, He’s not up there the whole time but jesus it’s bad ass. Zombie’s got 40 ft puppets wandering the stage at any given time. his visuals are crazy good. At one point he had lava dripping off the ceiling and puddling on the stage. he had walls of fire and flame that I swear I could actually feel the heat from. I’ll never buy another zombie song, but if his tour is rolling through I may just grab a ticket and go.
Anyway thanks to Gunnar for the ticket hook up. I got to take my son and it was his first time seeing ministry so he loved it. He was bummed, like me, that we missed Filter. He was shocked that Alice is older than grandma. He wasn’t too into the music but loved that he was parading around at one point with a giant snake. He totally dug zombie and became a fan, so i might be buying a cd or two even though i said I wasn’t.
You didn’t miss much. By the time his set got going, it was time to shut it down.
Yeah, that blows. I checked out their setlist and it looked pretty good. Balance of rad cuts off the new album and tried and true faves
The Church tonight. 2nd show I’ve caught this year.
Last one some fat fuck ODd. Ain’t about that shit. People with phones and can’t handle their substances… need to stay at home.
Hellz yeah, don’t go joy popping with bubble gummers
Lead Into Gold tonight!
Awesome brother have a great time!
Since moving to Southern Illinois a few years ago Live Concerts have been few and far between. But this year we saw the Wallflowers in Marion IL at a really lovely venue. We also saw a band called ‘Progject’ that plays Prog classics from King Crimson and early Genesis, etc at a theater venue in my wife’s hometown of Mt. Vernon IL. Excellent show. One of the two guitarists was Mike Keneally who worked with Zappa, Dethklok, and Andy Partridge. Had the pleasure of chatting with Mike post-show for a few minutes. Also going to see Sons of the Silent Age in Marion in a few weeks.
Not much happens around here that doesn’t include a banjo but we do have a club in town that has a rich history of alternative live shows that I pop into once in a while.
He’s a great guitarist…he’s worked with Satriani & Vai. I saw Joe with Mike & Stu Hamm…epic performances by all.
Favorite online comment via blabbermouth just this morning: "go for gary numan, leave for ministry "…the people have spoken.
Right?
I’ve never known alice to sing one note, he just talks through it.
Don’t know what to tell you. I got video of him singing. Sucks for you, I guess.
You play it but your not actually comprehending it.
I’m playing what? the video? wtf are you talking about? or are you just typing anything for the last word cause you think it makes you right?
“Cause you think it makes you right?”
I think i have a fan-boy!!
Ministry at the warfield…pass, hard pass and it wouldn’t cost me a dime of course.
No paul = no ministry.
What a shame.
Don’t kid yourself. You don’t think.
ALICE COOPER / MINISTRY / ROB-ZOMBIE at the Honda Center in Anaheim on September 23, 2023.
I stayed at TownePlace Marriott, which was about 3/4 of a mile away from the Honda Center. While walking to my room on the 4th floor, I saw Al Jourgensen about to go outside for a smoke. I greeted him and said, “Hey, Al!” Kirk Anderson took a picture of us while we were talking.
Later that day, I went to the Honda Center at 5:00 PM for my Meet-and-Greet with Alice Cooper. I met many amazing people there.
The Ministry performance was excellent as usual. They played a shortened set of classic songs which included “Goddamn White Trash” from their upcoming album.
Alice Cooper put on an awesome show, featuring a Frankenstein monster, and Alice’s decapitation in a guillotine. “Ballad of Dwight Frye” featuring Alice Cooper in a straitjacket was my favorite. I was in the pit section in front of the stage with VIPs watching Alice Cooper.
Despite never having any White Zombie or Rob Zombie CDs or records, I was impressed by Rob Zombie’s flexibility in movement. The set designers had installed 6-foot-high raised rectangular structures 6 feet apart. Rob Zombie gracefully and elegantly stepped across.
