Kanye West Rules

Musicly, I guess he’s about as good of a producer in that genre as i’d say Sascha is at “industrial”. A couple catchy songs, but I wouldn’t say it’s anything special. I haven’t really given him a real chance though. He strikes me as an obnoxious loose-lipped douche though. The bush remark was great, but then it became other things that involved dumb shit he’d say that would make him look like a total ass. One of these days, though, i’ll try and listen to him.

And I would never compare him to Reznor. You can can shit on his output, but his production is usually pretty top notch, imo.

personally I like my local group, Dalek’s production much better. shrugs

Dalek don’t exactly have similar productions to Kanye music wise…their music is anything but pop.

Wow. Everytime I think I’m on top of all the stupid genre names I hear of a new one . . .

Witch House??? Oh, brother . . .

The last two I came across that killed me were Power Violence and [drumroll please] PORNGRIND. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Actually, I was reading somewhere that “witch house” is also called “rapegaze.” There’s a genre for ya.

^ If I remember correctly the “rapegaze” term was more of an in joke with one of the bands in regards to their blank expressions in photo shoots. Somehow pitchfork picked up on that name and reported it as being a sub genre of Witchhouse or something but I think all the bands in question disowned that term.

Anyways, there is a huge amount of crap in the Witchhouse genre but the ones that are good are great. Salem and Glass Teeth are my faves. Mater Suspiria Visions mixtapes are pretty great too.

true…in that case I’d say that Outkast/Andre 3000 is still one of the best ones out there. I think Kanye’s a decent producer. But personally not in my mind a great producer.

btw, the new Cee-Lo album has top-notch production. nothing groundbreaking but just great 70’s soul.

I’m actually liking the Cee Lo album a lot.

I just listened to a few tracks of the Witch House genre that I could find on YouTube (including a few by Salem). It all seemed boring and crappy to me and hardly worthy of a movement.

Rapegaze is actually a better genre name. Not because it actually tells me anything, but because it made it seem interesting enough for me to look into it.

I hated the songs, but I gotta admit it’s tempting to tell the next person that asks me what kind of music I like that I’m really into Rapegaze.

HEY.

Pornogrind kicks ass.

Beastie Boys are the only mainstream hiphop group I can stomach personally. Fuck Kayne West and all of that other mainstream pop rap turned rnb bullshit !

Ummm, Beastie Boys are white, that wouldn’t have anything to do with it would it??

Nope, I can’t stand Eminem either. Plus on my earlier post I acknowledged KRS One as being one of the greats alongside Saul, so no it’s not a WHITE thing at all, just a shit music genre thing (mixing rap and rubbish n bollocks) and pandering to the brainless masses !

Racists.

I’m pretty picky when it comes to music. With a “genre”, it’s pretty much “you hear one, you’ve heard them all”. Hip-Hop/Rap, most specially. I listen to Wu Tang mostly. I like Eminem. Saul Williams is alright. I have his Niggy Tardust album, which isn’t bad. Might give Kanye a shot, but I dunno…he might be a little too hip and jive for me.

I was just giving you crap to cuz I was in a strange mood. Totally not fair to dig the genre.

Racists.

Fucking stoked to see that the awesome Kanye West thread steps all over the “Pretty Hate Machine Remaster” thread for views and comments! The power of Kanye compels you!!

PS: Still listening to the album, still really good. I was interesting in discovering that the only track that comes across as not quite as good as the others (“Devil in a New Dress”) is also the one track that Kanye does no production on. Suck on that woodenhead haters!!

I listened to it two or three times now and it’s very good.

The Stool Pigeon gave it 5 stars out of 5 stars in its review section this month…Stool Pigeon is a great mag for reviews/articles and happily rips to shreds any releases that are sub-par.

Here’s the review…

Kanye West — My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Mercury

"Kanye steps out of his car and spies a phoenix lying unconscious on the road, lick of gold paint applied judiciously over her muff. Scooping the exquisitely baubled bird up and out of the high-definition flames in super slo-mo, the Chicago MC announces his rebirth as only Kanye can.

‘Runaway’ is the insanely epic 35-minute promo vid presaging the release of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, fifth studio album from a man last heard carping dismally about his ex in autotune. It has a feature-spot list longer than the average phonebook and a recording budget bigger than the numbers therein, but damn, if Yeezy hasn’t delivered the goods on this one.

First single ‘Power’ is a triumphalist reworking of ‘Love Lockdown’’s sadface tribal shtick, with lyrics that find ’Ye embracing his galactically-proportioned ego in ways more healthy and humorous than before: “At the end of day, god damn it, I’m killin’ this shit / I know damn well y’all feelin’ this shit / I don’t need yo’ pussy, bitch, I’m on my own dick.”

‘All Of The Lights’’ lush centrepiece takes in domestic abuse, Elton John and the death of Michael Jackson in five hot minutes; ‘Runaway’ cribs a Pete Rock sample and makes it sound like Blue Lines-era Massive Attack; and if ever a couplet summed up Kanye’s suspect way with the ladies better than, “I sent this bitch a picture of my dick / I don’t know what it is with females” (‘Runaway’), then we don’t want to know.

There are guest spots from Rihanna, Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Nicki Minaj in between, but in the end it’s Justin Vernon, a.k.a. Bon Iver, who helps deliver the unexpected highlight, with the heartbroken, dreamy ‘Lost In The World’.

Music award winners better tuck their trophies under their pillows: Kanye West is back, baby, and hungry for your plaudits." Alex Denney

The Last Poets sample to end the album is a nice touch too.

I have to say that I agree and relate with pretty much everything Akbar has said in this thread.

Especially about missing out on good music trying to be on the fringe with everything you listen to. I did the same thing.
