I suspect few on here are fans but holy shit the new album is amazing and featuring textured production that reminds me of some strange hybrid between “Downward Spiral”, “Ventolin” and “Fear of a Black Planet” with a lot of modernity thrown in. Plus Kanye kills the lyrics. A genuinely good album that I suspect will only get better with more listens.
I really liked his 808 album, it seemed like he was listening to early Tears For Fears while making that album and I’ve also heard his new album is actually really good. Didn’t ever really care for anything before 808 though.
Late Registration definitely has its merits. The first time I heard a track off that 808 album, I honestly thought Will Smith was making music again. Never gave it a chance after that. I will give the new one a listen for sure.
That’s what I love about him. I’m no hip hop expert and can only even name one song by Kanye (“Golddigger”) but I love his inability to control his tongue in the most public of situations.
I cheered loudly when he said “George Bush don’t care 'bout black people!”. It may have been oversimplified, but I think there was some core truth to it that was fruitful and key to public discussion of the Katrina disaster and our scrutiny of the relief efforts.
I like the cover art he used for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Reminds me of a Current 93 album or something, not at all what I’d expect for Kanye West.
But yeah, I checked out the song “Dark Fantasy” on Youtube and it sounds just like any other mainstream rap to me. Not interesting.

His persona turns me off big time.
And I don’t think Katrina was about black people, but poor people in general.
And I don’t really care about them either. Or substitute teachers for that matter.
Reverse racism annoys me and he could learn to speak proper English…

Like I said, he oversimplified (yes, it was primarily an issue of poor people in general), but I think there was certainly a racial element to everything as well.

Are you just speaking in general, or is there a case of “reverse racism” related to Kanye that you’re referring to? As for his Ebonics, I couldn’t give a crap. He ain’t Socrates. It’s the retarded news channels that let him speak as if he’s some political figure or “voice of the people” that are to blame.
As far as I’m concerned he’s just another jackass that makes crappy music that I don’t listen to. But I love the fact that that jackass can say douchey stuff and command the attention of an entire nation.
today’s rap/hiphop music is a turnoff in general. I don’t hear anything different or unique coming out of this guy’s face.
Also, people lost a ton of respect for this guy after that Taylor Swift incident (he was a douche way before that though). He also thinks he’s freaking Jesus or something. He’s been qouted saying that he believes he should be in the bible after all he overcame in his past.
I hate being overly critical of people, but kanye’s a total douche.
I personally find Kanye’s media personality far more interesting than most everyone else out there. He self destructs in front of us with almost clockwork regularity and the whole VMA Taylor Swift fiasco reminded me a lot of my favorite scene in Videodrome (possibly my favorite movie) where Max Renn shoots Barry Convex on stage at the glasses convention. Who else does anything half so entertaining? Seriously, who??
Sure the guy’s also got a huge ego but to make music that huge you’d need an enormous ego. We want our meia heroes to perfom like lions but bleet like lambs in front of cameras. Fuck that.
Wow, this place is becoming creepy. Bashing nin for decades then praising this cunt. Kanye is beyond overrated. 808 was far from impressive. The whole album was just an attempt to seem progressive in his production when it had all been done before. I’ll admit that I did dig the occasional single from gold digger and back but the even that was mildly. The fucker is pretentious, racist and serverly ignorant.
I’m surprised how many people say Kanye sounds like everything else in pop hip hop. Have you listened to “Power”? Maybe there’s a little of “Kala” era MIA in there, there’s a little soul, but then it’s got fucking King Crimson samples in there. Kanye has brought sampling back into the mainstream and for that alone I will sing his praises. That his samples are so obscure make me dig him even more. What other rapper samples Aphex Twin, Manfred Mann and King Crimson all on the same album?? If he was like all the rest he’d sample some 80s pop hit like “Sweet Dreams” and all it “Cream Dreams” (it would be a song about a wet dream of course).
i am going to pretend that there isn’t a pro-kayne west thread in my prongs.
he has no talent other than idiocy. who gives a shit if he has a sample of king crimson. that just means the guy who writes his music did it. guys, he’s the epitome of everything that is wrong with music. he’s a jackass. if you’re trying to throw your fellow prongs’ers with something from left field. then go with taylor swfit. at least the girl can sing and play guitar.
