Yes, there was an incident at LAX today. No, they will not ban guns now. In Florida, a mother and her two children have gone missing and are presumed deceased at the hands of the husband/father. Their bodies have not been found, but he is in jail.
If guns molested children would they ban them? Probably. Guns kill children - but obviously sexual touching is far worse!

All I am pointing out is the irony that the authorities will ban, say, child porn, because it destroys the liberties afforded to every child. Yet they will not ban guns which will take the very life of the children they profess to be so concerned about.

I was there today.
A few minor tweaking of details and I could easily have been another dead person, made dead by a soulless prick with a gun.
I’ve been in Hawaii all week on work. I took the redeye flight out of Honolulu last night which put my flight into LAX landing around 7:00am. I didn’t want my wife to have to leave at 4am to come get me so I booked her at the airport hotel the night before so I could just take the shuttle over to meet her and catch a nap before going home.
After getting to the room I fell asleep and woke up an hour later to “LIVE BREAKING NEWS” on my television and chaos outside my room.
I looked out the window and there were helicopters and cop cars zooming to and fro and people randomly running scared while the heads on the TV set tried to explain what they thought had just happened and was proceeding in front of my eyes.
Had my flight been delayed an hour or two or any number of factors been different I might not be writing this.
As it is, it’s just one more line on my ever-growing list of “times I could’ve been killed”.
Yes, it’s my stomping ground.

I haven’t been to LAX in a couple years, and I too was flying in from Hawaii. But yeah that’s pretty much my neck of the woods too.

People kill people, the gun is the instrument.
Take the guns out of the hands of criminals. Destroy the black market for guns. There are people in desperate need of mental health care, methods in controlling their rage, in not controlling their significant other, etc. Keep the guns locked up, register all guns, link mental health records to flag during background searches that are performed for a purchase of a gun, etc.
In the UK, people are more likely to be knifed. I don’t hear you calling for a knife ban. No guns in Australia or New Zealand; I think they should ban all knives with blades greater in length than 5 cm to prevent stabbings/knifings.
As for children: This society has evolved, for the most part, to no longer allow adult males (say a male in his 40’s) to marry 14 year old females to ensure continuation of the human population. What was once accepted here and somewhat common, has now become taboo. Damn modern medicine and the cure for diseases in particular, making humans well when they are sick and also outlive their design parameters (living to age 70 to 80 vs. age 40).

The difference, really, is that you can’t make a cheese sandwich with a machine gun. Knives weren’t just invented to kill, they have everyday uses. A gun is only for killing. It was invented for murder, that is the sole purpose, and just because people later started using them for sport doesn’t take away that it was invented to kill the enemy, whether that be a soldier or your next door neighbour who’s talking too loud.
