Gigs you got coming in 2012

LA, Bro!

House of blues? Palladium?
Late,
grmpysmrf

Saw the Reverend Horton Heat last night…

the rev. holy shit dude. he played for over two hours.

i have never had the opportunity to see them/him. but i am very aware of his badassness live. i’ve got a dvd of his - where he calls himself a musician. he says, that’s what he lives to do, is play music. anyhow, anywhere. so your story doesn’t surprise me - it makes me jealous. congrats on catching a great show.

The Ministry show is at Club Nokia at LA LIVE. If anyone is going to the gig and wants to meet up I’ll be at Yard House before the show and during the stupid opening bands.

I’ve seen Horton Heat several times.
The last time he was blown away by his opening act, a pre-megafame Hank III.

Leaving to go to Interfuse tommorrow (local burning man event, 1000 people at the Missouri Shriner’s Campground).

This guy will be there performing, I’m super stoked to see him, and you’re dammn skippy I’m going to record it for my podcast:

HIGHLY recommend you check out that video.

Was going to see Mastodon + Gojira on July 4 but they’ve cancelled. Balls anyway

Gojira are great. Only discovered them recently through a friend’s recommendation and have been impressed. The first 2 1/2 minutes or so of their song ‘The Art of Dying’ is magnificent

Janes was great last night.

Toadies/Helmet in July.

Saw Machine Head last night, great performance (and I couldn’t make out the shite talk Robb Flynn was giving during some songs so that was a bonus!) Then got balubas, scored some Chinese chick, too fucked to go to work today, going to see premiere of Prometheus tonight, but not before I eat this quality pizza

It was, dude, it was.

And now finally tonight I can get some sleep [cool]

HAHA!!! I don’t know who Robb Flynn is, but I’m going to guess he’s the singer. That guy is a turd. They opened up for Metallica a few years back and he started some douchey Pantera-style stage banter . . . “Hey, who wants to get fucked up? All right!!! Let’s have a drink. Who wants a drink? You guys can have this one.” ------ The crowd is excitedly waiting for his to throw his drink . . . he does, tossing it closed-end first so it can fly . . . and some guy reaching up tips it, sending its contents directly onto my homie. It was pretty funny, actually (less funny for my friend).

I’ve seen Machine Head live twice – once opening for Slayer in 95 and they sounded pretty good. And then in 08 for Metallica and they sounded like a muddled mess (sound/tech trouble, not necessarily playing problems or lack of talent).

But, yeah, I hate douchey stage banter too. If you’re gonna say something try to make it somewhat intelligent and/or amusing and try to not sound like a retarded frat boy or Pantera.

EARTH IN MELB FOR FIRST TIME EVER FUCK YEAH

Earth are very nice to see live. Sink a few beers and take it in. If its their first time in Mel/Aus they might be more adventurous. They played in Dublin in March (don’t know if they’ve played here before… if they did it was a long time ago) and they played some rare ones like ‘Harvey’ from Phase 3. But they still played mainly from Angels of Darkness… volumes.

I was thinking more along the lines of getting ripped off my tits

Going to see Mark Stewart of The Pop Group on Monday here in Edinburgh @ Voodoo Rooms touring his new album “The Politics Of Envy” which featured an all-star cast of Lee Perry, Youth, Adrian Sherwood and Bobby Gillespie among others…should be good.

Going to see Kristeen Young tonight.

I’ve been going to her shows for 14 years now. Since her first record came out, which was like this:

(yes, that dress is made out of real WonderBread wrappers- and she wore it well too.)

She’s actually from St. Louis, she moved to New York around 99 or 2000, where she promptly hooked up with David Bowie and did backing vocals on his record “Heathen” and recorded a duet with him for her record “Breasticles”, then followed that up with a duet and several tours with Morissey.

She’s had a couple more records since then, lately she’s been working with Patrick Stump formerly of Fall Out Boy:

Honestly, none of her record have impressed me much since “Breasticles”, but “Enemy” is one hell of a record. Can’t recommend it enough. Her new video is kinda cool, I’m meh on the song, but there’s some really cool shots of some of the cool parts of St. Louis:

She was also on that spoken word compilation that came out on Invisible a long time ago:

So, Kristeen Young sound checked for two hours and then packed up her keyboard and walked out without playing because she didn’t like the way the monitors sounded. I wish her luck, but I’m done giving a shit at this point. I tried, I tried, I tried. The last show I saw of hers at the Firebird she picked a fight with the sound guy the whole set while bitching about how her friends that flew in from California weren’t having a good time because the sound sucked so bad. It sounded fine to me. Like, bitch, I’ve been coming to your shows for 14 years and you don’t give a shit if I’m enjoying it, because I would be if you’d quit your bitching and just sing already. And then this primadonna bullshit. And you know, honestly, even when I was all superfan and shit for her, every time I tried to talk to her she was kind of snotty about it, pretty much just 'cause I’m a dude- no lie, I’m not the only one who has caught that attitude. Whatevs. She used to be good.

EARTH IN MELB FOR FIRST TIME EVER FUCK YEAH

Earth are coming out?!?!

[shocked]

Marduk this sunday along with 1349. This is my 3rd shot at seeing Marduk. 1st time they were supposed to co-headline with Mayhem in '09 but the singer couldn’t get into the country (US). When they finally did make it over here I didn’t have enough $ to go. 3rd time’s the charm.

Other than that, it’s TKK in september for the 25th anniversary tour. Buzz McCoy posted on facebook that they’re gonna be playing songs they’ve never played live. I don’t know their whole discography but I should be in for a treat.

I got two tickets to Earth, I got two tickets to Earth.

I got two tickets to EAAAAAAARRRRRRTTTTHHHH…yes, I got two tickets to Earth!!

Dum, dum.
