Evil Dead (2013)

I’m not so bothered by a Hellraiser remake because they already made a fucking abortion of a movie that recast Pinhead.

Not gonna lie . . . . I would TOTALLY go see Pinhead in 3D, haha!

I only stumbled across that because a buddy and I were talking about the Cenobites and he informed me that there had been a total of EIGHT Hellraiser films (I’d only watched up through #4). I had to look up what these other 4 were. I’m sure they’re all dogcrap.

Once I saw Pinhead in Space I checked out . . .

1st Hellraiser-The Ballz
2nd Hellraiser-Fascinating for it’s nightmarish avante-garde weirdness
Every other Hellraiser-Poo Poo

Every other Hellraiser-Poo Poo

True. And I can only assume that they continued to get exponentially more pooey.

Yeah,I was flipping channels one night and caught a little bit of one(probably part 7 or something)and it was like something from the Lifetime network…that horrible made for tv/straight to dvd production, weak acting, cheesey set design…you know the drill…what you would expect yet somehow a little smellier…

The interesting thing is that, like half of the Hellraiser movies were initially original projects that got Hellraiser slapped on it. It then makes sense that the Cenobites are in those fucking things for like 5 minutes.

I’ll drink to that!
And yeah pinhead in space was pretty stupid.

Everyone go track down Hellraiser: Inferno before you talk shit. A good chunk of those movies are pretty crappy, but that’s the best one since Hellbound.

1 and 2 are the only solid movies. I enjoyed some of the others and there were some pretty good ideas/cool concepts here and there.

Clive Barker was supposed to be writing a new novel centered around the Hellraiser mythos. I wonder if he ever finished it.

c’mon, if they re-released the original in theaters it wouldn’t go over well. the modern audiences would laugh at it.

you’ll have the fans of the original loving to see it in theaters, sure. but besides that? wouldn’t really be a box office hit, would it?

sadly, remakes are necessary these days, no matter how crappy they may be. some, not all, make money. and that’s what it’s all about to the companies.

as for this remake, I’ll probably see it. I do like the fact that no cgi is being used for this. of course it’s so tough, almost ridiculous, to compare it to the original expecting it to be better (as many of us tend to do with remakes) . I’m going to watch it to be entertained. if I’m not- well, that’s $10 lost and I’ll keep it moving.

the scarlet gospels, yeah he did finish it, he is in the middle of getting it ready right now. it is supposed to be AMAZING. it is also going to touch on the characters from Cabal (the movie was called Nightbreed… and even though the studio hacked it up, it still kicks some serious ass)

clive is right now doing a comicbook about pinhead that takes place after the second movie, and before the new book. (side note, if you havent read the hellbound heart, you are really missing out.)

and ok… so this wont make me popular here, but i HONESTLY think the newest hellraider film (the one that doesnt have doug bradley in it) is the best since the second, EASILY.

it is the first one to really recapture the human depravity and cruelty of the book and the first/second film without going over the top for the sake of a good scene. the budget is poor, and some of the acting is spotty, BUT when you keep in mind that the film was never actually supposed to even be released, it was just supposed to be a sorta ashcan copy to hold the rights, the movie becomes even more exciting. i think a lot of people knocked it because it didnt have doug bradly in it., but who the fuck cares. he has gotten fat, and frankly boring. he is a shit actor in just about everything else he has ever been in, and is a TOTAL asshole in real life. i mean a TOTAL fucking asshole. so fuck him. the guy who played pinhead did a wonderful job, and the guy who dubbed his voice was spot on. this isnt to say that the new one was great or anything, but i feel like it is the only one of the non barker affiliated sequels to actually succeed in being a hellraiser film… whereas the other ones just feel like genre fare of the year they came out… with pinhead thrown in the mix for a moment.

ALSO, Gunnie, according to Clive Barker himself, he is trying to get control to make the hellraiser re-make himself. THAT would be a remake worth watching. i would love to see what he would do with the story at this point in his life.

and i see what some of you are saying about how remakes make money, but really, that is a weak argument. you know what else makes money? just about anything that is advertised aggressively and pushed by major studios. this evil dead remake could have easily been given a different name and pushed just as hard, and it would make just about the same money, all without pissingoff the core-fanbase of the original. in fact, i would even watch the movie (even though it still looks like crap) if it wasnt branded with the name of a classic.

remakes arent necessary, or essential that is bullshit and a half. they are just easy. and you know what? movies liek the original evil dead, or friday the 13th, or nightmare on elm street, or the hills have eyes, or night of the living dead, or whatever else… those movies werent easy to make. they werent easy to advertise, and they werent easy to believe in, but they worked out. easily filmmaking just produces throwaway crap that no one cares about/remembers years later.

so fuck this film, and fuck any and everyone associated with it. and that includes sam rami for being ok with this.

I always wish I could have seen the un-fucked with version of Nightbreed…so cool to see David Cronenberg in such a prominent role…that movie has some cool moments but I’ve always wondered what it could have been without the studio interference…

That opening chase scene when you first see the creatures in the field is incredible…

Rusty: Is the one you’re talking about called “Hellraiser: Revelations”?

Rusty: Is the one you’re talking about called “Hellraiser: Revelations”?

yeah. thats the one.

i mean, it is in NO WAY a perfect film, and still only a shadow of the first two, but still, i honestly feel that it is the only sequel to actually attempt to feel like a Clive Barker story, whereas the others… well a few werent even hellraiser films until they threw in some pinhead to existing scripts, and the others… weak-ass bullshit that missed the whole point of the 'bites. haha.

and there IS a full cut of Nightbreed (called the Cabal Cut) that is floating around with some collectors. it is supposed to be fucking killer. i have only seen bits and pieces. but i keep my eyes out for a copy…

I’ve heard legend of this Nightbreed too. Didn’t know that a cut of it actually existed in underground circulation.

And for the record, I don’t give a crap what anyone says. I friggin’ LOVE “Nightbreed”. The 16 year old girl I took to see it on our first (and last) date in high school did not love it as much.

Haha nice date movie,G…

I had no idea there was a cut floating around either…I didn’t think it existed…just thought it hit the cutting room floor…must see…

I always dug Nightbreed too…I think there are some parts that could have been better but it’s small potatos…I remember how cutting edge those creatures costumes were at the time…they still hold up well…

Wow! I’m stoked to try and pick this up. I guess it is an ACTUAL thing and is recent buzz stuff.

Also, not to jump around all over the place, but I LOVED “Lord of Illusions” too.

Was that the one with the Quantum Leap guy??I never saw that one…one of those I always meant to see but just never got around to it…

Yeah, Scott Bakula.
It also had as one of the head baddies the grumpy hook-hand sargeant dude from “Malcolm in the Middle”. He was also Kroger on “Seinfeld”.
