I agree 100%. They never get any punishment when they’re caught out, whereas someone poor who steals and gets caught goes to jail and their life is ruined. Look at the likes of Conrad Black, Berlusconi and their ilk, they’re criminals who do what they want, but if they’re caught they get an easy ride and it’s back to normal within a few months. Bastards. I’d like to cut their faces off and feed them to their pampered little rat-dogs.

Rich people stealing is not the same as poor people stealing. Rich people are already taken care of and are comfortable by the standard presented here in the US.

I fully believe we need a maximum wage in this country and anything over needs to go back to the people in the form of Taxes. Just think of all of the programs that could come back to the schools (shop classes, arts classes, cultural classes, clubs etc) and communities if that money was dispersed back to the communities.

There is something wrong with you if you think the only way to measure your success is by screwing over the less fortunate than you are.

The US supposedly got rid of titles of nobility to keep us from succumbing to royalty, but just because we don’t call someone “lord” or “king” doesn’t mean royalty doesn’t exist anymore. We clearly have nobility in this country. Feudalism is alive and well here in the US. /rant

This Mitt Romney mentality that he deserves 50,000 dollars an hour so he can build a multi-level garage and elevator for his cars is fucking putrid and then trying to justify it by saying “well I created Jobs for the people building this structure” is just even more delusional.

smrfy, I agree. All those programs that were cut, they are the ones that foster creativity. Common Core is a set-up for failure and the dumbing down of the general public who cannot afford private school or tutors because not all students will be able to master all of the core subjects. Without creativity, there is no problem solving. I’m not sure where these 2% figure they are going to get qualified people to work for them to keep them in the 2%.

Mitt is in the 14% tax bracket when I’m in the 25% tax bracket due to not being able to take as many deductions as Mitt. Policy for the wealthy by the wealthy.

As for the abortion debate: keep it legal for all to ensure it stays in a medical office and out of a back alley/bathtub with a coat hanger. Additionally, there are instances where Rx can cause 100% birth defects 100% of the time (Accutane).

Common core hasn’t even been implemented yet. Common core is more about depth rather than breadth. It’s more about skills than filling in bubbles. Common core focuses on thinking and skills rather than memorization… at least that’s the idea. I’m willing to give it the benefit of the doubt until we see how it actually works.

Not to mention Texas is the nations leader in produciing oil, natural gas, beef, building jets, and of course we have Nasa. You’d feel the loss of Texas on the nations economy big time.

I’m not so sure I get your point. I do agree that they need to stand on their own two feet a little more rather than subside on government handouts. I do agree that there are a significant proportion out there who are “lazy” if you will. And referring to themselves as “indigenous Australians” doesn’t really help their cause much. I had an argument recently with a fellow about this very matter. When I put my argument to him regarding Aboriginals being more independent, he almost tore my head off for being “racist”.

Taboos regarding children and nudity in art/culture should be somewhat alleviated.

I last time I saw any child nudity in a film was 5 years ago in a Spanish movie about the civil war. I didn’t blink in the slightest. We (and by “we” I mean Western countries) certainly are rather prudent when it comes to such things. I can’t imagine being offended when some kid’s little pair of balls or a bare butt wanders across the screen. Who hasn’t seen that at the beach or at the local pool? As long as it’s not sexual in nature I don’t see the harm. But I suppose the powers that be have our best interests in mind.

Funny that people line up to see torture porn films like Saw or Hostel yet call for the head of the director when he makes a film where some toddler shows his wang.

An honest question for everyone here. What, to you, is UNIQUELY distasteful or evil about rednecks? Is it…

…the fervent religiosity?
…the hatred of education?
…the tendency to solely ‘look out for their own?’
…the belief that guns and / or raw violence can solve most social problems?
…the likelihood that they’ll have children that they aren’t prepared to raise?
…the inability to appreciate subtlety in art and culture?
…the inclination towards life-destroying recreational chemicals?

If you answered even one of those in the affirmative, well, congratulations, you’ve just identified a salient characteristic of several other major ethnic groups in the U.S. If you had told me not to move to a U.S. city because too many people live there with these characteristics - and you didn’t name the dominant racial group in that city - you could just as easily be describing Chicago as someplace in Appalachia.

I’d like to hear from some other board members why, again, the redneck deserves to be probably one of the last safe targets for wall-to-wall ridicule both in this country and elsewhere (redneck jokes and small dick jokes have to be the last two pieces of standup comic material that you’re guaranteed to not get any shit about.)

I’ll share my theories on this eventually, but for now, let me just say that I’m not going to bat “for” rednecks so much as I am for the sake of ideological consistency. Put simply, if you despise a trait or set of traits that you identify with the ‘low class’ element of a certain race, then you’d better be prepared to explain why they and only they are worthy of criticism. I have a knee-jerk aversion to scapegoating, no matter who it is.

  • there are more irreconcilable differences between social classes in the U.S. than between ethnic groups. For some reason, the mass media have some vested interest in claiming that the inverse is true.

My first job was as a factory worker in Jamestown NY, where poor blacks, whites, and Hispanics regularly broke bread with each other and attended the same bars without a single dust-up over cultural or historical grievances.

And yet if you got any of them started on their ‘asshole’ boss or the monied folks on the other side of town, well, then it was on like Donkey Kong.
