Apparently, there's a new Ministry album in the works

Hell yeah JW you like boyd rice? I’ve got a book(s) crap they started with an R, real old, that have interviews with him throbbing g. etc. one has a pic with him in front of a car accident smiling. and, as far as my lack of punctuation just read it in the “what about us” style then my rant will make more sense.

You’re referring to one or more of the RE-Search books. Really nice pieces, they were. There’s one called, I believe, “Industrial Culture Handbook”, and another with Boyd in it called “Pranks”. There was also some on Body Modification and other subculture stuff. I’m guessing you have the Industrial one. I don’t own any of these books at the moment, but remember them well.

yeah, i had all of those surprisingly i thought boyd’s pranks were the best, i thought jello would have won that one

The RE:Search book on Bob Flanagan was was the best white elephant gift I ever bought. Nothing says “Merry Christmas” like a book full of pictures of a dude nailing his balls to a table.

HAHAHAHA!!! “Bob Flanagan, Super Masochist!”

Destructo, I wasn’t being hateful or any of this Al vs. Paul thing (Paul, btw, has his own life with this guitar pedal company and has moved on a long time ago). I was legitimately asking who is buying their records because absolutely no-one I know has recently. This is in Chicago, where they have history and do well with selling tickets to their shows. Though, in other cities, I hear they have had in attendance no more than 400 people. Obviously, there has been a sudden lack of interest in not only their shows but record sales (which are typically much less than attendance figures).

I can appreciate good hard music which is why I much prefer to listen to the works of High On Fire, Jesu, Pelican, etc, than the new Ministry albums. Honest. There is more depth to those bands I listed and more riffs that sound pleasant to my ears than what I heard on those records, especially with the treble screaming. Not to mention the awful, shallow lyrics (“Born and raised in the USA. I got a different type of DNA”). It’s not just me who think this; many of the reputable reviewers and people amongst the scene I have met in passing, think the same.

I don’t have to like their new work if I don’t want to. A huge, vast majority don’t.

This isn’t disrespecting Scaccia, a person I have spent considerable time with, one on one (great guy). It was a legit question I was asking.

You know afra i’m right with you i think theres just a part of me that just feels beat,as you know, from defending a band for so many years that most don’t consider "real’ music (in the90’s) cause they used computers, and now even with i can’t defend there current output. maybe the worse part is it’s not bad it’s bland sorry if i came off like an asshole i’ve allway’s had alot of respect for you from when this started as a fan site to you actually doing work for the band taht’s awesome and it was cool to witness that journey from the outside. plus, we ‘ethnics’ got to stick together[;)]

Oh no apologies needed; I didn’t take it as aggressive or anything to that level. You bring up a good point! I wanted to also clear up that I wasn’t asking “Who are buying these records?” out of malice or sarcasm. I legitimately want to know.

If I found the music to be captivating and original, then I’d be the first to admit it. The politics within that camp, I want nothing to do with, however. I have been accused of everything from that camp from running torrent sites with Ministry material (!!) to shutting down their forum to being threatened with a lawyers to everything else.

So perhaps people can attribute my dislike to the music because of all that, but that’s not entirely true, as the dismal record sales and lack of interest both online and offline, illustrated the common theme.

Talking of heavy music with a kick:

There is more chance that Guns’n’Roses will take less than 10 years to follow up Chinese Democracy than there is of Al releasing material that stands up to his 90’s output and pleases the old school fans.

weird you bring up c. democracy i’m gonna buy that one next week i thought it was good, plus s. bach confirmed awhile, before c.d. release. axl actually had 3 records finished he’s just sitting on them

Chinese DeMiXXXacy?

MiXXX Your Illusion

He has enough material for 3 albums. they are not recorded or polished necessarily. I shudder to think of the Bsides to C. Democracy which is probably what that material is.

I have an album of demos and live bootlegs of Chinese Democracy dating back from 1999. I think I have the version of “Catcher In The Rye” with Brian May from Queen on guitar. The live boots that are in good quality sound better than what was on the album, especially the title track and “Madagascar.” It ended with a song called “Silkworms” that I hope never gets released. I’d say it’s almost worse than “My World.”

If Chinese Democracy, or the new stuff for that matter, sounded/sounds more like this I would’ve been happy.

I could care less if he doesn’t do another Mind album. Or whether or not it “holds up” with the older albums during Ministry’s heyday. Like Destructo said, it just needs a little effort. Put some thought into it. That’s all I want from it. I want to listen to an album that you know they really worked on it, put the effort in. Al simply doesn’t give a shit anymore, but yet he won’t retire.

Chinese Democracy was written specifically as the first part of an intended trilogy so I doubt the material he’s “sitting on” is b side quality. According to reports, the new material is quite good and several new songs have been tested in front of audiences with generally positive reactions from fans - The General and Monster Of Soul in particular.

The new material is said to be more “Sabbathy” - although if you ask me it’ll end up sounding nothing like Sabbath.

I’m with ya!

I have all the demos that were leaked (at least I thought I did I don’t think I’ve heard silkworms- or maybe I did and blocked it out)

I’d heard that too, but I just figured it was more of Axl talking out his ass

so I doubt the material he’s “sitting on” is b side quality.

LOL how come? Chinese Democracy was all b side material, Hell, he whines all the way through “This I Love”

Don’t get me wrong, there are a few decent songs on the album, but they’re decent like Linkin Park was decent. Meaning they are good if they come on the radio. but the only reason I’ve bought the album was because it was Axl’s 20 years later effort.

The new material is said to be more “Sabbathy” - although if you ask me it’ll end up sounding nothing like Sabbath.

I’ll agree with this assessment.

Silkworms is a live track. Not sure when it was recorded. It starts off good, but then Axl starts singing the most uninspired lyrics he’s ever written. The link is posted above.
