American candy

Demet’s Turtles.

Trivia…Chicago is the candy capital of the US. Tootsie Rolls, Cracker Jack, Ferrara Pan Candies, Brach’s, M&M, Mars…all local brands and manufactured or based here.

My favorite candy is Werther’s Butterscotch…made in Germany I believe.

So another company made these before Mothers? I always hate that when something is discontinued and then someone brings it back but it’s never quite the same…

They did that with the original Mr Pibb, which was my favorite soda of all time…they have Pibb xtra now but it’s not the same…the original recipe is gone forever…

Or like they did with Surge?! That’s probably my all time favorite soda. It was pretty popular around 1998-'99 and then it was discontinued. I believe it was a coke product. Then coke brought it back in the form of Vault, but it just wasn’t the same. Then Vault was discontinued. Sunkist has Citrus Fusion, which is close to Vault, but leaves a weird aftertaste in your mouth. But Citrus Fusion is hard to find. In fact, that might be discontinued too.

Yeah,I remember Surge…that shit was good…

and Slice…that is gone too…

You just hella brought me back. That’s retro for me. The orange flavor was probably the best orange soda ever made.

Guess I’ll have to try an american Milky Way now to see how it compares to our Mars Bar.
I agree that american Oreo’s are better than the ones we get locally but we have Tim Tams so that’s a win for us. Double Coat Tim Tams are the best.
I haven’t had a Cherry Ripe in ages. I’m not a huge fan of coconut and whilst they don’t have alot in them, it’s enough. If you can, go for the dark chocolate one.

Did Summit come in an orange package?and there were 2 bars per package…I vaguely remember getting some of those about 10 years ago…

Yes, red-ish orange.

I also had a love for Tangy Taffy made by Sunline. Wonka bought it and turned it all into Laffy Taffy. To me, Laffy is not as tart as Tangy.

Oh, if you get your hands on a pack of Tim Tams (original or double coat works best) you’ve gotta have a TimTam bomb.
First get a packet of Tim Tams and a cup of hot chocolate (I use Milo).
Bite opposite corners off the TimTam (but don’t make them too big).
Place one bitten off corner of the TimTam into your hot chocolate and then use it as a straw to suck the hot chocolate into your mouth.
As soon as the liquid hits your mouth, quickly (and I mean quickly) insert the entire TimTam in your mouth.
BOOM!!! Chocolate explosion.

Gettin hit in the face with those is no joke. A friend threw one in my face and it gave me a fat lip.

By the way, does anybody remember the song “Laffy Taffy”

I always bring oreos to my friends in the UK when I go or i send them two boxes of the coated ones taped together and wrapped in brown paper.

We have Tim Tams here in select locations. I think Target and Cost Plus/World Market carry them in limited varieties.

I also have a bad thing for McVitties Fruit Shortcake tea biscuits. They are 80p in the UK and USD $4.00 here. I stocked up when I went to London in August.

My local grocery carries a decent selection of UK products (salad creme, HP sauce, jammie dodgers, ripple, mars, PG tea, etc.) because there are many former UK residents that live here in retirement land.

Tim Tams in the US are licensed through Pepperidge Farms. They’re not as good as the legit Aussie version.

Holy shit I forgot all about slice… I think sierra mist replaced it but they haven’t created an orange sierra mist.

What about the minute maid orange soda? I think the last time I had one of those was my freshmen year of high school. I have no idea when they even stopped making it.

Slice was awesome. And they came out with a bunch of other kickin’ flavors too.

Their grape soda was majestic.

I have a soft spot for Sierra Mist. Not real easy to find here, but every time I see a 12 pack I buy it.

YES! How could I forget?! This is going way back to the early 90’s (yes that’s retro for me). I don’t think I’ve had one of these since I was 5 ('91-'92).
