for those of you who are fans of the original ‘Industrial’ aesthetic, one of the key developers of that culture, the percussionist Z’ev, has been seriously injured following an Amtrak train derailment. You can help with medical expenses via his [url https://www.gofundme.com/kqu6bed4]GoFundMe page.
Speaking as someone who knows all about the misery of having no insurance, and expecting an emergency situation to hit at any second, I definitely sympathize with Z’ev’s situation - all that aside, though, he’s been instrumental in forwarding some of the more interesting ideas that Industrial culture had to offer, as well as being a consistent thread in its development from the 1970s up to the present.
He probably doesn’t, like me, make sufficient income that he’s required to pay the penalty for not signing up for the Coerced Healthcare Act. Don’t know what state he is a resident of, but in my part of the country they can’t hit poverty-level residents with additional fines for not enrolling.

Poverty level income enables you to get insurance for as little as $1.00 a month. It’s still on him.
He gave a talk here many years ago at some university lecture hall. Seemed like a genuine kind of guy. Not a fan of his work tbh - although I’ve only been subjected to a very small portion of it overall.
I may see if I’ve got a few bucks to spare and help him out if I can.

Just ask your alter ego who runs the lumber mill or whatever the fuck it was…

HA HA yeah the lumber mill.

He died in a train derailment. He had bowel cancer also, so something was bound to catch up with him.
Just like you and your AIDS.

Are you TRYING to be less funny with each return or it’s just a side effect of years of bottled butthurt?
Seriously, Bro. I miss the old Peligro. Your posts (even the ones as Amlux and Olsen and every other Australian ever) were entertaining and kind of fun, even when raging.
But now you’ve just gotten tired and moldy.
Get yo groove back, Son.

Certainly seems like he’s trying too hard now when he does show up. whereas before he just didn’t give a fuck. even when he would rage it came off effortless. [:|].
What’s going on with you Peligro?
Tis true. It’s on him to go get medical insurance.
My sister became a nurse to get off the dead parent retirement plan (single mom working in a hair salon).
As a nurse, her employer-provided medical plan is $200/month, which is unaffordable to her. She went with MNCare (state-run) at $25/month.

Again, this may be the situation for you and Smurf, who I’m assuming live in states that do not get routinely punished by this administration for not voting it into office (do a comparison of social benefits in the “red” plains states versus, say, an Obama stronghold like Illinois…it’s illuminating).
But for me, I can’t sign up for my state’s healthcare plan because I don’t make ENOUGH money to qualify. I haven’t worked for a single employer here who will hire for 35+ hours a week because they don’t want to cover my insurance costs. Yet I can’t afford to pay even the fee for whatever the catastrophic plans are made available through the federal ‘marketplace’.
Another issue is at play here, though, which is that Z’ev has been a performing musician for the majority of his professional life. He earns his money primarily from recording and performing. So, even if we were living in a world where all his medical expenses were paid, he still faces the possibility that this accident will make it unlikely for him to play music in the near future, and in such a situation I think it’s a worthy thing for fans of his to fund him while he makes a painful transition into a new life where he has to come to grips with that. As we saw with the case of Keith Emerson, whose inability to play music very likely contributed to his suicide, that’s not an easy transition to make.
Is it on Z’ev to have insurance. Sure, whatever. We’re all responsible for ourselves and should plan accordingly. But it doesn’t make it any less terrible when people get stuck in a jam. It’s possible to recognize that someone may have been able to avoid tragedy if they had taken different steps and yet sill empathize with them.
Life is tough. Sometimes it’s so tough it tries to grind you into the fucking ground and kill you. And sometimes it does.
I’m not donating to Z’ev specifically, as I don’t know anything about the guy. Also it looks like they’ve got a pretty good sack already collected.
But I have helped out homies in similar situations. If we all decided to be doctors, lawyers, accountants, etc. we’d be pretty well secure with our finances as well as health care. But some people choose less certain paths . . . . like music. I’m glad they do and I think the world is a better place for it. If such people are friends or heroes of mine and they end up being squeezed in the vicegrip of life, yeah, I might throw a few (or more than a few) bones in to help 'em out.
Anyway, I wish Z’ev all the best.
I don’t know the dude, but based on the response on his funding page it seems he’s got a lot of people that appreciate, admire, and respect him.
I don’t give a shit whether he screwed up and passed on getting insurance when he should have. Getting hit by a train, or smashed in one that derails, sucks no matter what the circumstances.
I live in Red unincorporated County Florida.
All the major metro areas are Blue.
No Medicare expansion here. Governor is a box of rocks.
I have employer-provided medical insurance from my day job.
He doesnt understand. He thinks its about being penalized rather than cheap insurance. Insurance companies cannot turn him down. The less money he makes the cheaper it is.

Obviously i would help out if im a fan or something was really messed up but this seems to be something that was/is easily avoidable. If you broke your arm and you can go to place X to get it set and you dont go then dont bitch about how bad your arm hurts and now want money for it. Is kinda how i see the situation here.

Yes, some people just don’t get it.
My sister made too much as a nurse to stay on the low-income plan she was on while she worked in the salon. Thus, the switch to MNCare as a nurse.
Even at age 14, I knew I would be a starving artist if I pursued that route.
Therefore, I chose to do something else that paid the bills (a sacrifice for my financial independence).
I still do the artsy stuff on the side, just not in a full-time capacity.

Obama doesnt “punish” red states or any states for not voting the ACA in. Your limited access is on the state’s governor (see scott walker and rick scott along with a bunch of other governors blocking their citizens access to state health care) however there is a federal exchange web site up and running to circumvent their spoiled child behavior.

That is preposterous! Your situation is one of the main reasons the ACA was created.
