cool this suprises me…for some reason I always thought you were way into the new material and hated the bizarre years (Filth Pig, Dark Side of the Spoon, Animositisomina)[/reply]
Yeah, Never really been an Animositisomina Fan. Although, I liked it alot in the beginning. (Like HOUSES… it’s appeal faded quickly.) Although I really do adore the song SHOVE, only because I can hear that being on the Darkside album. I really wish they would’ve included that song. I would love to hear it with the same mix as the other songs on …SPOON. Animositisomina just seems to poppy to me, to straight ahead rock, maybe not enough samples or pulsing beats or… I don’t know it just doesn’t have the cohesiveness of the other albums. It’s almost like all of the other albums had a theme and this one does not. not enough “bizarre” ness as you put it. Maybe there was no consistancy to it. musically and lyricaly the album was all over the place. just didn’t seem to jell.
Everything else is smooth though. I’ve been listening to Rio Grande for about 3 months now and I’m still not sick of it. So I’m digging this album more so than any other post 2000 release.

I just, strongly, agree with the messages of his newer material, doesn’t mean I think the albums are better. I like his houses of the Mole album , I like some of his ideas, Didn’t like some of the name calling, but for the most part I like the whole Idea of the album, Just didn’t dig on it musically too much. I like Psalm 69 a lot too. I just over played it but that album is politcally charged too BUT it has an even amount of social commentary which kinda balances it out. The newer stuff has NO social commentary and I think that is the difference. (and musically as well) I like politacally based music.
I like other points of view, some that represent my thought process others, not so much soo. BUT i do like something other that the diet “news” on television. It would seem you get that alternative take from artists.

It’s funny, I had just re-edited my picks on here a few days ago…I think it was something like -
Any of the 12" singles, from any era
Twitch
Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste
LoRaH
Psalm 69
Filth Pig
With Sympathy
Rio Grande Blood
Dark Side of the Spoon
Houses of the Mole
Animositisomina
Reload quoted my original picks up there, but it was way off…Dark Side has gone up, while RGB has dropped. It’s still above Dark Side on my list because I’ve been listening to it a lot more, but I have to point out that Dark Side is a technically brilliant album, while RGB will continue to drop. Although Animos will always be at the bottom.
I know there’s a lot of love for Animos on here, but that album just doesn’t work for me. Rather than the “new direction” I keep hearing about, it just sounds to me like sloppy metal (as opposed to the focused speed of RGB) interspersed with tired retreads of electronics used in other projects. There are absolutely a few gems there, and it’s infinitely better than anything on the radio (it IS Ministry, after all!), but it’s the only album of theirs that I can’t listen to all the way through.
And I LOVE Paul Barker, but Stolen just gets on my damn nerves. The synths are cool, but his nasally whine in that song makes me want to punch things. Why is it you all love Stolen, and can’t stand Useless? Honest question!
I like Useless…
Havn’t been listening to heaps on ministry at the mo, but at the moment
Dark Side Of The Spoon
Psalm 69
Filth Pig
In Case…
LORAH
Mind
With Sympathy
Animositisomina
Twitch
ok… Twitch is at the bottom because I havnt listened to it in forever, when I do I will probably re-adjust my list. I remember liking it, but again, just havnt listened to it far too long. Animositisomina same deal, I have the DVDA version, and the intro song (animosity?) sounds like complete shit as I dont have 5.1 setup. The sound just keeps dissapearing. I do have it on MP3 somewhere I think… I’ll buy the normal version some day. I like WS and if there was a Same Old Madness single, that would be the top of my list, I cannot get that song out of my head! lol. but the other albums, its hard to choose, I love them all, but I think my selection is fairly accurate with which I prefer right now.
havnt heard much of houses, and none of RGB, so they arn’t on the list.
lol… I saw someone post about BS+Q earlier. I agree, again, something I havnt listened to in quite some time, and I should give another go, but I couldn’t listen to it for long at the time. Much prefer linger ficken good, BSL was good too, ah, I just have too many cds/lps to listen to what I want to all the time, LOL, maybe my gf is right, I should sell some (more) stuff.

Hmmm yeah Barker’s voice can be a bit annoying but I kind of got over it. It’s really not so bad and I think he does a great job on “Vex & Siolence” as well as the Lead Into Gold stuff for the most part.
I just think “Stolen” is really fuckin cool musically and I wish there had been more songs on Animositisomina in this vein with the crunchy crazy distorted (synth? guitar?) and the crisp drumming. Very interesting rhythms on that track I thought.
As for “Useless” I used to always skip it but now I listen to it and I do enjoy it a lot. The only thing that makes it a bit inferior to me is the completely shitty bridge on it. Everything drops out and then there is like a loud bass note or something and then it just goes back into the song. Kinda lame…
But really it is a good song. I mean there is no track on Filth Pig that’s really worth skipping IMO. Probably their most consistent (though not best) album in my opinion.

dude, that’s my favourite part, that’s totally dissonant bass note!!! that’s the most awesome part of the song for me :))
also one thing about filthpig basslines: songs like useless and game show are based on two riffs but there are so much slight subtle variations i almost got pissed off at barker when i was tabbing them.
stolen is cool. it has two bass ‘modes’. awesome song. i hated it at first too.
Yeah I think Paul Barker is a much better bassist than people give him credit for. I mean yes he came up with simple basslines but that’s sort of what the music called for, and Ministry always has a great rhythm section to their songs.
it’s not like Ministry could be Ministry with some fancy Les Claypool type shit. The music really calls for those thumping militant grooves in terms of rhythm.
