I went into the new official NIN forum - half the threads are locked or moved, everything is sub-sub-sub-categorized, and there’s a big list of things you’re not allowed to talk about.
I hate overmoderated forums. I realize they’re a lot bigger than we are, but jeez.
Most other forums are over moderated pieces of crap. People set them up to feed their egos and to have their ass kissed. Some members of these forums actually do partake in the ass kissing of the moderators. It’s actually quite funny.
Pretentious moderators who won’t even let people link stuff (I just heard this happened at another forum) or you get ones like the PA where they claim they don’t censor but do so anyways. What’s interesting to me about that is no-one asks questions like ‘hey why was XX banned’ or why do posts regarding the lawsuit keep getting axed? Are people scared of being cut off themselves? Isn’t this rather silly being scared if your membership will be revoked without warning from a group of people who always said they were anti-censorship.
Those type of forums hinder the Internet which is based on open communication and philosophy.
If someone came on here and talked about a leaked copy of some album, why should anyone care? It can’t stand in court that I’m guilty because someone linked it and people will find it even if they wanted to.
Apparently in other forums, other opinions matter not.

I think I’ve been to PA maybe 2 or 3 times.
If there’s one thing I think DOES need moderation on forums, it’s irritating sigs and avatars. And PA has way too much of that nonsense.

I like how this site has no mods! I mean obviously Afra and Bisquito are mods but I think they are mods in name only. I mean, Hell Afra Globe trotts and is away from posting for sometimes months at a time. Bisquito, I guess, has some kinda life cause he’s not an everyday poster either. I’ve probably been here a good five years (Since it was back on the old board, Back when I would show up only to scream about how wrong the lyrics section was, and then scream some more because the lyrics I submitted were ignored! [:)])
and in that time I don’t think I’ve ever seen them yank a Post (although they have locked one and I still don’t know why![:)]) Or ban a Member. The closest I’ve seen them to “flex Muscle” is whe Afra talked some shit to me for my tantrum post about how the P.A. Banned me and then he changed the title of my thread about it (with good reason)
It’s just nice to be here and have real disagreements as well as real discussions with out it being that superficial smile that we all know is not genuine. Afra, Hat tip to you good sir!

Seconded. Plus while I am guilty of overindulging in certain bands who can do no wrong [;)] , the amount of sycophantic pandering some fans resort to turns me off to most forums. The ’ yeah ____ artist could put out an hour long album of nothing but farts and I’d buy it’ mentality is an example. Would you really? Would it be played more than once? Now one can argue that a certain dreadlocked one has already done this, but thats beside the point. I like that Prongs isn’t afraid to discuss when artists we like suck.

Yea, and i like how everyone has different tastes, if u look in the What r u listening to right now? thread, you’ll see people listen to a variety of things, from Metal to Industrial to old ass electronic bands and some commercial shit too. In other forums everyone listens to the same damn thing.
I love how on some boards (like the NIN Echoing The Sound) if someone new asks a question, there will be a dozen old timers bitching them out about “duh, use the search function, that topic was discussed three years ago!,” but then if someone does post in an old topic, they’ll get bitched at for digging up an old thread.
At Here Today Gone To Hell, which is one of the biggest Guns N Roses boards, there isn’t a single mention of the nine tracks that leaked on antiquiet.com, or the blogger Skwerl getting arrested. In their revisionist history, none of that ever happened, and anyone who tries to say otherwise will be banned and their threads deleted.
Anyway, I’m glad that shit doesn’t happen here.

You woudn’t happen to have a beed on where to download that leak would ya’? I here those earlier leaks are not even on the album. (Madagascar, Blues, Better, Catcher In The Rye, Etc.)

I read someplace online that nobody even was aware of the leaks till the FBI took antiquiet down… that’s when the real demand for the files took over… thanks for the free advertising mr government… now EVERYBODY knows that more files leaked.
Silly Axl should have released the album years ago anyways. =)
and on the nin forums it’s a ban or at least ostricization for mentioning that a person isn’t too keen on any of trents work… here, shit there’s decades of al crap we all hate but it’s fine cause we all like “something” he did (or took credit for doing)

The funniest post I ever made here got deleted, it’s actually the only post I think I’ve ever had deleted from a forum. It was a new thread about how I wanted Al to Open a hair salon named Clippers.
