Worst opening acts

From the other message i think this deserves it’s own
What was the worst opening act, not counting some random local shit band, that you’ve had the misfortune to sit through?

Aiden was the absolute worst. Kittie and Ill Nino both sucked. Sheep On Drugs sucked opening for Pigface a few years ago, even though I like quite a bit of their music. Deathride 69 sucked opening up for TKK and then TKK sucked just as bad.

I concur with Afra on this. It’s also why I try to never drive to concerts and/or hockey games. Damn rubber arm I have.

i’ve seen a lot of shit opener bands over the years but i never really expected much out of them so whatever. but the one that sticks in my head because i was looking forward to seeing them at the time was TKK back around 95 playing with the lords of acid. hands down the worse performance i have ever seen to date. not sure if that counts as an opening band though as i was going primarily to see them.

i’ve also been pleasantly surprised by a lot of openers as well. such as never hearing the melvins before i saw them on a white zombie tour. and just last month i saw a band called sian alice group who was pretty good in a mellow way. they opened for a place to bury strangers. that was the first opener in years that impressed me.

I’m sure the actual worst band was one of the immensely forgettable metal bands that Ministry has lugged around the country. But the one that sticks out in my mind was seeing Cornershop open for Gus Gus. I sort of dug Cornershop’s CD, but they were like statues on stage and the music sounded identical to the album. It was like listening to the CD and looking at a picture of them. Fucking dull.

Best opener? About seven years ago an ex-girlfriend dragged me to see the Icarus Line and some other generic punk bands at the Troubadour. I was fully prepared for a pretty lame night, but a band called 400 Blows came out and completely blew my mind. I wish they were more active today.

Lollipop Lustkill/Motograter/Nothingface (Ministry, 2003)

Yeah, that’s the one!

I’d kind of expected to like them so I was sad when Mobius Band (opening for Black Kids and Cut Copy) were so danged dull.

Hate Dept. opening for Oghr was pretty miserable. Any of the metal bands I’ve seen open for Ministry were terrible.

Yup, Pitbull Day Care was pretty worthless!

The Cranes (The Cure, 1992)

was the performance bad or do u just dislike their music/her voice? i’d kill to have them tour around me.

The Transplants (Foo Fighters, 2003)

Really? I’ve always sort of dug the Transplants.

after literally thousands of rockshows, i can’t think of a standout bad moment, with the opener.
so, i put the clutch in reverse.
one of the best opening acts for ministry was, of course, atari teenage riot.
they were sort of struggling along, and they were amazing.

OTTO - Skinny Puppy tour

this is all that’s coming to me at the moment. (IMO) this was horrible. He would literally load a song on his laptop with a few clicks. then walk around the stage in costumes. fuck - i could do that - but then again - i’m not “in” with SP so i can’t tour and make money at it.

That blows! I would’ve thrown shit at him!

They were probably fine, I just remember being bored and very annoyed by the singer, and couldn’t wait for them to get off stage. To be honest, I’ve forgotten what they even sound like. Weren’t they a gothy, shoegazer band?

Hair Police opening up for Wolf Eyes/Sonic Youth was pretty dreadful. Also, seconding the Motograter/Lollipop Lustkill fiasco. Yuck
