Been using it off and on for a couple of months…never experienced Vista but I’m digg’in Windows 7 Ultimate. Okay it has a MAC feel to it but using 64 bit & 6 GBs of ram…this thing is kick’in some major ass. Games, surfing, music, video etc…all good.
I feel no need to go beyond XP. I am a geezer.
I’ll probably use it when I get a computer with it pre-installed.
I didnt think it was necessary to update from Vista to 7 by buying the system individually.
Instead, I switched to Linux.

Same here.
XP is working fine. Don’t see the point.

me 3.
as a matter of fact, after “experiencing” vista I have no desire to move onto any other os. I dread the day my comp dies and I have to upgrade.

WORD. A twenty-year-old geezer, at that.
Also, mick wins Prongs.

I haven’t upgraded my desktop past XP Service Pack 2, although my brother just gave me a monster of a video card (literally, it only just fits in my case) so once I get a PSU that can actually run the thing I may need to upgrade to SP3 to be able to use some newer games… or so I hear - it might not be necessary.
Vista - yuck. Looks kinda pretty, but I have bad experience with it because the douchebags at Toshiba thought that it would be an awesome idea to install Vista Home Premium on an entry level 2Ghz Celeron with 1GB ram… bad idea… thing runs so shit sometimes. Whenever I call Toshiba they blame spyware lol, they don’t know what they’re talking about. Anyway… at least I can use it as a wireless bridge for my Xbox 360 now.
I must be one of very few people who never actually had any problems with Vista, I guess. I bought a high-end laptop with the ultimate version installed and I didnt really notice it running slower or crashing more often than XP.
The problem with XP is that it is ugly.
Looks might not be the most important thing in an OS but if you use the computer for essentially everything in your life, it certainly is nice to have some eye candy.
Still running DOS 2.0 w/ Norton Commander. It’s just safer this way.
I use Win7 at home and XP at work. Win7 does have some nice creature comforts that make life a little better. For example, right now, Win 7 is giving me a BJ as I type this. XP couldn’t do that.
Rofl, wow, that is an innovative OS. Bet MaC OSX Hoth Wampa Monster edition can’t do that either.
haha… I’m still giggling at this.

What do you mean? just change the desktop if it’s ugly…or is that not what you mean?

Win XP doesn’t have a 3d compositing engine. This makes it look uglier due to lack of effects and run slower due to lack of hardware acceleration.

I don’t know what any of that is but ok.

You know you can change the theme(s), right? Using the default XP theme drains a tad bit of memory, too, I always go for the classic 98 look, kenny g
Even with WindowBlinds the themes look dodgy on XP due to the lack of a 3d compositing engine.
i had had awful experiences with vista, but ahve heard tons of good things about 7.
why upgrade to vista/7? Direct X 10/11. Otherwise i WOULD be running XP SP3
Ahh… fair enough. DX 10 wont work with XP?
My build is about 4 years old, so I probably wouldn’t be able to run much that was released now anyway… although once I get my graphics card running I might be surprised… I have a Pentium D 945 I think, 3Ghz Dual Core… just before all the Core 2 Duos came out (and of course my motherboard wont support C2D chips).
Catgoat - you have used SP3 before? I heard it had some issues over SP2 but I havent upgraded yet so I am not sure…
yeah, that’s how they were trying to get peeps to upgrade when vista came out. DX10 and the upcoming 11 aren’t made for xp.
i ran SP# on XP for about a year and never really noticed anything go wrong or have weird issues like i have had with vista. Vista has not played nice with my 360, and XP machine, or linux when it comes to networking, and i had some usb driver issues (wtf, really? in 2009? for fuck’s sake) when i first got it.
it’s not that i don’t want to upgrade to 7, but i don’t want to pay for it. i’ve worked vista’s issues out for the most part so i’m good for the moment.
