Looking for fellow prong-ies here who have quite a substantial collection of output by any one artist/band.
If you have literally truckloads of albums by a particular band or whatever…share the wealth with us.
Mine would probably be:
Melvins (18)
Nurse With Wound (15)
Merbow (15)
John Zorn (12)
Sonic Youth (12)
That’s not much…I know. A friend of mine owns over 50 Merzbow and 40 John Zorn related cds. But anyway…I have a more substantial vinyl collection than he does does.
well over 100 ministry and related relases+ roughly a dozen or so vinyls
Misfits/Samhain/Danzig 39 +Samhain Box and a first edition Coffin + limited edition how the gods kill box with puffy 3d giger cover+ two lost tracks of Danzing one in the normal font and one still sealed in the fucked up “groovy” font + roughly a dozen or so vinyls
Guns N Roses-35 +6 vinyls+ 3 3" CDs
Jello/Dead Kennedys 32+ roughly a dozen or so vinyls
Rage Against the… 32 +3 Vinyls
Slash related projects-14 (Velvet… and …Pit -not counting guns)
Ministry definitely has put the biggest dent in my pocketbook, with seventeen physical releases. I own every Type O Negative album, with a few singles and compilations thrown in, as well. Skinny Puppy, Black Sabbath, Pigface, KMFDM, and Paradise Lost all come somewhere in third place.
Depeche Mode - 59 (includes the 36 singles released in DMBX 1-6)
KMFDM - 43
Smashing Pumpkins - 33
The Cure - 32
Marilyn Manson - 29
Nine Inch Nails - 29
Ministry - 28
There’s always more to collect though. These are the artists that I currently own 20+ releases of (according to WMP). All on physical media (CD) later converted to mp3 for iPhone/Car. Actual CD numbers are higher due to multipart singles and multidisk albums/different versions.
Some of my rare things…
Depeche Mode - X1 + X2
KMFDM - Trust
Nine Inch Nails - Down In It (6 track UK CD)
Pig - Shit For Brains (CD)
I own 3125 Chaka Khan records. I have no room in my apartment for anything other than my massive Chaka Khan collection. I do not shower as the bathtub is filled with fabulous Chaka Khan albums.

That’s REALLY crazy.
REALLY.
I think I own maybe 6 or 7 Ministry…INCLUDING side projects.

You realize this forum caters to obsessives, right?
I’ve got almost 7 hours of Ministry on my ipod - all b-sides, live tracks, remixes, unreleased tracks, etc.
I can’t do counts easily unless they fill a 30xCD long box or more. That said off the top of my head artists who do:
Killing Joke
Justin K Broadrick (jesu/Godflesh/Techno Animal/final/ICE…etc)
Bob Mould (Husker Du/SUGAR/solo)
Aidan Baker (Nadja/solo)
Beatles
Pink Floyd
Rush
There’s a couple that fall just shy of their own boxes tho… Mark Lanegan/Screaming Trees, NIN, Clutch and Napalm Death are all headed for a 30+ cd mark… Ministry w/ Sideprojects etc is close as well.
Generally, if i like a band, i own their discography. That’s hard to do but I just have to own the songs, I’m not obsessive about promo’s/singles etc, if the tracks are comp’d etc. I don’t need doubles of any kind - just every cut.
Mine are pretty much the same as what’s been said so far, Skinny Puppy, Ministry, NIN, KMFDM, etc…
My largest however is Ozzy/Black Sabbath stuff.
I have every Sabbath album with Ozzy on vinyl, cassette and cd. Also own the Black Box set of Sabbath as well. And I have all Ozzy albums up to Live and Loud on cassette, have them all on cd, (sometimes twice with the remastered stuff), and a few of them on vinyl.
I had a listen online and thought it pretty forgettable - not TERRIBLE but forgettable nonetheless.
It’s ok… I suppose. I don’t know about “forgettable” but we’ll see how often I listen to it in a year or two. I have had the Leaked demos for a couple of years and they are ok…I actually prefer some of the demos over the finished product.
But over all, to answer your question… I don’t care for it as a Guns N Roses record. It’s pretty good Pop music in the vein of Lincoln Park and other such bubble gum bands. But as a Guns Record, it’s not that good… The chord progressions are pretty decent on about half of the songs but there isn’t one solo on that record that isn’t stale! I would imagine the guys that laid down the solos never even heard the songs… I would imagine Axl just said, “hey, lay down a bunch of solos in the Key of E at 100 bpm.”
My “favorites” include (in this order)
Better
Madagascar
IRS
Catcher in The Rye
Street of Dreams
This I Love (Only for the Piano. I love piano music!!! his lyrics sound like a damn nursery rhyme!)
It’s too bad you can’t get into RATM…Tom Morello is pretty bad ass with the guitar noises he comes up with and De La Rocha has a pretty strong social Conscience (which i happen to agree with, which probably makes it easier to listen to) I love the anger in the Zacks voice if he’s faking it, he’s a damn good actor!
