Oh, man, is there a few of those. And by few, I of course mean MANY.
Right off the top of the head… the entire DSOTS album.

Third Eye (live) by Tool off the Salival comp. One of my favorite tool songs, if not THE favorite. The leary sample has always stuck with me,
“Think For Yourself. Question Authority”.
What song kicked me into terror, contempt and freedom?
I…don’t know.
Perhaps Money Is Flesh by Swans or A Cunt Like You by Whitehouse. Both those tracks make me wanna break stuff.
Is that what you mean by terror, contempt and freedom??
The contempt bit keeps throwing me off just when I have the terror and freedom bits worked out. Three part epics are port of call here so can’t deny the might of ‘Heart Ache’ and ‘Ruined’. Swans are definitely a terror, contempt and freedom band. If I were to pick an album that has that tripartite make up I would second ‘DSOTS’, and put forward ‘FP’, ‘Jesu’ and definitely the soundtrack to INLAND EMPIRE.
Also gotta throw in Whitehouse’s “Why You Never Became a Dancer.”
This is like one of those questions in an exam where I immediately think…“I don’t think I can answer this one??”
How about a song that kicked my ass big time and still does whenever I play it???
If so…Godflesh’s “Gift From Heaven”.

“anything (viva!)” Foetus
I’m not sure what the subject line means, but I was listening to Goatwhore last weekend and I just kept getting angrier and angrier and angrier.
So I went out for a bike ride.
reload has always had an effect on me. specially the 12 inch mix with extra reloadedness.
friends are evil by jesu really gets me, still.
worlock by skinny puppy still gets to me.
fear by project pitchfork gets me.
bigot by godflesh still gets me.
dayvan cowboy by boards of canada still gets me.
Whitehouse “Cut Hands Has the Solution”
Severed Heads - Harold And Cindy Hospital
This track was certainly disconcerting the 1st time I heard it with the voice loop, martial beat and jarring horns, not to mention Tom’s eerie cut-up vocals. At the time it was like a revelation; music that could be simultaneously exhilarating/annoying, horrible/beautiful. Still sets off something in me.
Angel Of Death
based on the decription of the thread, this song was the first that made me feel such a way some 6 or so years ago.
for me, it would have to be final’s “dying star” .
the whole album represents life and death to me. the first track, “arise” is the dawn of life. pre-man. pre species. darkness still. the second track, “light” is progress. positivity. light. emotions. but an underlying sense of melancholy. “solaris” is the brightest part of the light, but starts the spiraling into descent. by the end, there is very little light left, darkness encompesses everything.
that leads us to “dying star” . the sound of death. earth screaming…until the diseases (the human race? ) is rid from it’s system. then there is a sense of peace, calamity, content.
the album cover represents the music perfect. the candle starts, it arises from the man’s head. it then produces the “light” . it reaches it’s solaris, the brightest point, but then begins to melt…fade away…a dying star…ultimately melting the man away in the process.
we’re all creative sorts here.
punk rock moment? bump start the bike? make you glad you woke up and right away got furious at your boss and said," later , dumbass"?
hope that helps.
fantastic reports so far…
Hamburger Lady by Throbbing Gristle.
It was the first time I realised the power that sound had over the senses - the fact that you can scare people shitless just by making some noise!
And Disappearer by Sonic Youth for the opposite reason - the fact that you can make people cry and hug their pillow just by making some noise!
