What Rarities do you have in yr collection?

My most treasured (my precioussssss):

Melvins - Interstellar Overdrive ep. (purple vinyl, signed by the band!)

Sunn O))) - White2 (2cd japanese expanded edition)

Various - Shock City Shockers (japanese compilation put together by Eye Yamatsuka: my copy is signed by him)

Tool - Lateralus (dbl vinyl lp picture disc)

Butthole Surfers - The Hole Truth And Nothing Butt (long out of print cd of live Buttholes material)
Butthole Surfers - Brown Reason To Live ep (on grey marble coloured vinyl)

Os Mutantes - s/t (vinyl version of Mutantes debut. Believe this is hard to find now. Mine is in mint condition)

Faust - s/t (japanese edition of debut album on cd)

Painkiller - Collected Works (4cd box set of Zorn’s noise-jazz combo. Not sure how rare this is…but is hellishly expensive nonetheless)

I’m honestly not sure what in my collection is considered rare or valuable and what isn’t.
I’ve got the original version of KMFDM’s “Naive”. Is that still going for big bucks? I also have a Zoviet France cd that I was surprised to find is worth a lot of money.

I used to have many, many rare items but after learning how to save and backup lossless audio files I sold all my originals, rare or not. I just don’t quite enjoy sitting down, listening to tunes and thumbing through the album artwork anymore. Also, due to my Buddhist leanings and minimalist/less is more philosophy I try to keep possessions at a minimum as they truly do cause suffering, especially when one moves around a lot.

Perhaps if I owned a house I would start collecting again, but for now MP3’s are working just fine. Plus, the MP3 download revolution has totally taken rare music out of the elitist stance of record collector snobs by being so easily accessible!

That being said I have just a few rarities left:

Ministry - Filth Pig on Vinyl - not sure how rare this one is.
Dr. Octagon - First edition of Dr. Octagonacolygist. Much, much better than the re-release.
Twilight Circus - Forget the name… one of a kind artwork by Ryan Moore
Green Jello - from my childhood before Jello sued and maid them change their name to Green Jelly

Not sure how rare some of these items are, but these are some of the odds and ends I’ve picked up over the years.

Skinny Puppy - Back & Forth Vol.2 Metal Case w/signed print #11/192

Skinny Puppy - Last Rights (Full artwork vinyl)

Skinny Puppy - Bites (PIAS/Scarface vinyl)

aDuck/Philth - Power/Touched vinyl

Ministry - Work For Love (With Sympathy German Release)

GWAR - Hell-O (Shimmy Disc vinyl signed by all the band with drawings)

Misfits - Monster Mash (green vinyl 7")

Misfits - Evilive II (signed)

Severed Heads - The Art of Noise Vol.1 - Since the Accident cd (an unofficial release by Ink records stopped by Tom Ellard)

Lee Chubby King - Yo! Pusface 12"

Wax Trax! Video Sampler #1

Manson - mechanical animals tour edition from 99, comes with a little comic book, only ever seen one other copy of this.

Black Box in the metal dealie.

ICUDFLSU on vinyl (+ pretty much everything else by minstry on LP except J1F and DSOTS)

Some coil CD that on the Wax Trax imprint. (before TVT)

NIN - Broken with 3" mini disc…

thats allI can think of for the time being…

UPDATE:
Anyone have any disappointments? I was so excited to get the Kyuss/QOTSA split on 12" a few years back… not cheap, but not expensive either. Only to discover later that it was a bootleg.

Also my piece of the ministry fence from marty [laugh]

NIN - Broken with 3" mini disc…

Oh, I’ve got that. Is it rare?
Your mention of Manson reminded me that I have a Marilyn Manson radio-promo of the song Antichrist Superstar. It’s a cd with masking tape on it with the name of the band and song. It’s the same as the album version except that the sample at the end is different.

I’ll get in on this action…

BTW Forget Buddha, possessions make us who we are!! if we have nothing we are nothing. Peligro, get my back on this one!

right now with out my record collection sitting in front of me…
As mentioned by pete, I have green Jello before they were made to change their name BUT I have 2 copies one I bought and one was a gift that I never opened HENCE it is still in the long banned carboard box!

Misfits 12 Hits From Hell(The MSP Sessions), (CD and Vinly, Vinyl’s easier to get than the CD)40,000+ were destroyed because Glenn didn’t like the artwork and Doyle didn’t like that Bobby Steeles’s guitars were in the mix. So they never left the wherehouse EXCEPT that a few rare advanced copies did (even though they were supposed to be sent back) and so there is a maybe a limited run of 500 or so that were given out and did not get returned. By far the nicest mixed Misfits CD EVER

Misfits Die Die My Darling Vinyl 1st pressing

Misfits Evilive Green Vinyl (limited I think to 5,000- or some ridiculously small number)

Slash’s Snakepit-It’s Five O’clock Somewhere- Double vinyl limited Dutch release.

Tori Amos “God” Single only released to radio stations and in limited quantity

Tori Amos- Y KANT TORI READ on vinyl

ICYDFLSU(L) On vinyl (As well as Laserdisc but most know this already as I share the wealth! [;)])although currently looking for a better copy as the sleeve is pretty worn

I have interview Picturediscs For Dead Kennedys as well as GNR

Dead Kennedys- Too drunk to fuck vinyl still shrink wrapped from cherry lane publisher.

Dead Kennedys- Frankenchrist with the Giger Poster signed by Jello himself!

that’s what I can think of for the Moment. I know I’ve got more but I just can’t think of it at the moment.
Late,
grmpysmrf

i have the Chemlab 10 Ton Pressure ep. i think thats rare although i know a few peeps who have it.

Buncha out of print Coil stuff. Gold is the Metal first pressing, time machines with stickers etc, old wax trax Love’s Secret Domain etc and copies of all the old cd’s pre the “Steveo pay us what you owe us” era.

I’ve got a signed box set from Foetus that came with a shirt and was made to hold all the Foetus singles from the early 80’s titled “The Foetus of Excellence”.

The rarest one I’ve got is probably a vinyl copy of Cop Shoot Cop’s “Headkick Facsimile” and a copy of the Piece Man 7inch (splattered in pig’s blood, good times!)

I have several obscure items that I’m proud of tracking down that most people probably wouldn’t care about (any fans of the Virgin-Whore Complex?) , but I think the three things I have that go for any actual money are:

The Comsat Angels - It’s History (4xCD boxset)
Throbbing Gristle - TG24 (and TG-Now, if that’s hard to find)
Foetus - The Foetus of Excellence (with the shirt)

And then these:

Sold most of my rare stuff long ago but I used to have a ton of it. These days I have some rare Rapoon releases but I don’t know how big of a demand there is for them. Maybe some of my CDs are rare, but I’ve thrown them all in a big binder and gotten rid of the packages so even if they’re rare I’m sure they’re not worth much now.

Anybody else have the Coil Hellraiser 10"? Mine’s on clear vinyl, but I think they made several different color variants.

Butthole Surfers - The Hole Truth And Nothing Butt (long out of print cd of live Buttholes material)

i have that cd, it came with some stickers! nice choice. a great one to be sure. didn’t they make that whole thing available on their site in mp3 format for free some time ago?

Butthole Surfers - Hurdy Gurdy Man/Barking Dogs 45 (yellow vinyl, thanks to mysfyt)

Soundgarden - Day I Tried to Live/Like Suicide ( solo acoustic) 45 picture disc

Kraftwerk - the Model 45 picture disc

Nirvana - Seventh Heaven (crazy import live show 12inch vinyl, 4.11.91, XS Records? the label is kinda bleached off and you can barley read “Nomad-Just a Groove” was the original labeling. thanks to mysfyt)
Nirvana - Sliver/Dive 45 (on SUB POP)
Burroughs/Cobain - the “Priest” the called him 7inch (one side is picture disc, backside is blank yellow vinyl with “signatures” burned in and “hand numbered”.)

Jesu - Eluvium Split (Temporary Residence Limited Version ? wtf? it’s just a black record. mebbe they meant the press run…)
Jesu - Lifeline (baddass half gold/black vinyl edition, thanks mysfyt)

Acid Horse - No Name No Slogan (12inch vinyl)

RevCo - Do Ya Think I’m Sexy? (KY cd)

Slayer - Haunting the Chapel (12inch vinyl)

King Diamond - No Presents for Christmas lp

AWESOME

Jesu - Eluvium Split (Temporary Residence Limited Version ? wtf? it’s just a black record. mebbe they meant the press run…)

The “limited” is just part of the label’s name, it’s not referencing the vinyl itself. although their pressing of that vinyl is limited to 1000 on red, and 1000 on black.

Anybody else have the Coil Hellraiser 10"? Mine’s on clear vinyl, but I think they made several different color variants.

yeah that’s a nice record. they did 500pink, 500 clear, and an unknown amount of black.

Misfits Die Die My Darling Vinyl 1st pressing

Misfits Evilive Green Vinyl (limited I think to 5,000- or some ridiculously small number)

Oh, I’m going through something of a Misfits phase at the moment.

Back in 1990 I was their biggest fan. In fact, Legacy Of Brutality was the album that changed my life (musically speaking). I had a lot of their rarities, including the Spook City USA and Cough Cool singles as well as a bunch of bootlegs.

However by 1993 I was sick to death of them and sold everything I had to some record store who gave me, like, $100 for everything. Pretty lame.

I’ve see Misfits stuff like the Who Killed Marilyn single and Horror Business ep go for around $600 on ebay. 12 Hits from Hell is indeed very rare. It was, as you say, more or less ditched at the time, later resurfacing as the somewhat less appealing 3 Hits From Hell single, which a friend of mine used to have.

Other items that I have foolishlessly discarded over the years include:

Metallica - Garage Days Re-Revisited (vinyl)
Metallica - Kill Em All (vinyl, original pressing)
Danzig - Danzig (vinyl, original pressing)
Nirvana - Bleach (purple vinyl)

Nine Inch Nails

I have too many goodies to list but I do own the Fragile (3 album set), its fetching 150 bucks.

Ouch Peligro, you should have at least held onto that Cough Cool single. Although I once passed up buying that Danzig picture disc that was shaped iike the skull with artwork by HR Giger. Ahh well…

It has surprised me over the years that the Misfits are one of the most collectible bands out there, but they receive very little press in books written about the whole punk era. I guess it has to do with their b-movie Famous Monsters image as opposed to a political/rebellion slant, but Static Age/Legacy of Brutality has some very serious songs on it with imho the best lyrics Danzig ever wrote. She, Bullit, Hybrid Moments those songs are classics.

I would love to have an actual hardcopy of 12 Hits, its just sad that the degree of infighting that surrounds that particular group of people prohibits some great music getting out to the fans. I remember my local record shop painted a whole window in anticipation for this re-release, then one day someone was out there painting over it.

Misfits Die Die My Darling Vinyl 1st pressing

Misfits Evilive Green Vinyl (limited I think to 5,000- or some ridiculously small number)

I have ‘Die Die…’ on vinyl, mint condition too! Also have:

Misfits - Earth AD picture disc

Misfits - Walk Among Us picture disc

Misfits - Beware 7"

Samhain - Initium vinyl, absolutely mint. Very hard to come by these days. I’m sure there are serious collectors out there would pay a fortune for this. I’ve had it for 16 years now and not a scratch on it.

Nurse With Wound - An Awkward Pause grey vinyl. Picked it up last month.

Nurse With Wound - Angry Electric Finger series of 3 albums all on vinyl, all mint.

Sunn O))) - Whitebox

Sunn O))) - Black One dbl vinyl

Asva/Burning Witch - split lp picture disc

Mastodon - Remission blue vinyl

Neurosis - Through Silver In Blood vinyl

Ministry - Filth Pig vinyl

Death - Human vinyl original pressing mint

Earth - Hex… double picture disc

Burzum - Filosofem vinyl

Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas picture disc

Boris - Vein clear vinyl, with beautiful design etched around the frame

Khanate - Things Viral gatefold 2cd edition

Ulver - Shadows Of The Sun clear vinyl

Coil - Aple Of Naples vinyl box set

Coil - Time Machines dbl vinyl mint

…and that’s just a small section.

In the last 2 years, I believe I have spent well over $10000 on my collection.
