As the subject says, What happened to RevCo? I see lots of references in various forum posts to a recent breakup of sorts, but I’ve never seen it spelled out exactly. Is Josh Bradford out? Clayton? Just Sin? Will there be a tour? Is there a release planned for Capt. Bigshot?
I am a LONGTIME Ministry/RevCo/Wax Trax fan. I first saw Ministry live on July 23, 1983 at Comiskey Park in Chicago. They took the place of Simple Minds and opened for The Police, A Flock of Seagulls, The Fixx, and Joan Jett. I went out that week and bought the Cold Life 12" and “With Sympathy”, which was damn cool to a 14 year old new waver/semi-punk. (Yeah, I admitted it. A New Waver. So there!) [pirate]
Ministry’s music got harder and more experimental as my tastes evolved as well. I loved “Twitch” (Still one of my all-time favs) and “Big Sexy Land” As a matter of fact, I called Wax Trax every day in March leading up to the Big Sexy Land LP release to see if it was in store yet. One day I was told it would “be in for sure tomorrow”. I went early the next day and waited at the counter till Jim Nash cut open the first box and flung the top copy across the counter to me. I still have it.
Anyway, I guess this post serves as my intro to Prongs, and I hope someone will be kind enough to fill me in on what happened.
(FWIW- I actually quite like “Sex-O-Olympic-O” and also enjoy the first half of “Got Cock?”. The second half seems like too-much filler so far.)
Welcome aboard! Sounds like all the current RevCo guys are out. Any future RevCo plans that happen will probably happen without them. Personally I’m hoping that Al gets Richard 23 and Luc back for the next one.
By the way, cool story about getting Big Sexy Land! To be a longer term fan of the band you’d have had to be in the band! =)
All I know is that Sin and Aaron are the only ones to mention that their out. “Former guitarist for Ministry/RevCo” (which is stupid cause I thought Ministry ended). Aaron’s also not playing with Prong.
My guess is that they new this was all coming and that’s why they created Capt. BigShot. I swear to god though, if Blownload is the next RevCo… Or this all just might be the death of 13th Planet who knows.
Well, the current crew was always supposed to be temporary anyway. But I don’t think they split on the best terms. The guy who ran their Myspace page was posting a couple of months ago and he seemed pretty pissed about the whole thing. Maybe this upcoming interview with Sin will reveal more.
Well, basically, things seemed to be going well with Bradford, Clayton and Sin. They finished the album. It was set to be released.
Next thing you know, their myspace page is taken down. The guy who runs it has a hissy fit, comes on here and tells his life story. Turns out, by the way, Al and Angie had stirred shit with the guy who runs this website.
So, it seems like it was a case of Al and Angie not paying the nuRevco members and Al basically giving them a hard time during recording; I recall that myspace dude saying he called Bradford ‘fucking useless’ constantly during the sessions.
So, those three chaps jumped ship. As a result, the album release was delayed by a couple of days and the date was uncertain. It sold fuck all copies and had little chance of promotion given there was no band to tour it out.
Tho, word on the street is Al’s getting the chaps from Blownload to become the ‘new’ Revco. Haven’t heard their music. But their band name tells me their worth avoiding.
As far as I’m concerned anyway, Revco should’ve just stopped at the first two albums back in the day. LFG had too many ‘misses’ on it to constitute it’s release, and that final ‘who’s your favourite cock?’ song… ugh.
Holy shit man, I had NO IDEA Ministry ever played the old Comiskey Park in Chicago, and I am a big Sox fan!
I’m even more surprised that as an older fan you actually like the new Revco material. I only got into Revolting Cocks when “Finger Licken” was heavily promoted in the record story I frequented in Dekalb, IL (an hour west of Chicago).
To me it just doesn’t have that driving incessant bass sounds and intricate drum rhythms the old material has and relies more on guitar solos and cheap sex jokes. But hey if you like it, more power to you! Some other members can fill you in more on recent band developments, but in my mind it really isn’t the same band at all w/out Chris, Paul and Bill. Regardless, welcome to Prongs!
Heh. My “fluff” list is pretty short. Not including the new stuff. Always figured songs like At The Top being that, or the latter half of LFG. Not bad stuff, but not songs i’d put on any pedestal.
All of Beers Steers & Queers except for maybe Cant Stand Still is their best work! Big Sexy Land had its good moments too with 38, Attack Ships On Fire, Union Carbide (West Virginia), and TV Mind. Hail 80’s RevCo!
