Yeah, I know it’s the most cliched, ego-centric thread in the history of the internet. So what? I couldn’t help myself, and a bit of discussion and ideas for new listening never goes astray.
I’m listening to…
!!! - Louden Up Now. I have come to the conclusion that this album is awesome. At first I didn’t really dig it, but now the songs are constantly stuck in my head. For the uninitiated, I’d describe it as funky house post punk. The lyrics are consistently hilarious, albeit quite awful otherwise.
Two Lone Swordsmen - From the Double Gone Chapel. I love this too, Andy Weatherall is an incredible producer and it’s an unexpected but cool direction that the Swordsmen have gone in. Post punk by people who were actually around when post punk was, better than any of that other new post punk shit.
Apart from those I have been hitting up the Ministry rarities courtesy of Bisquitodoom and my peeps on slsk. “Love Change” is still comedy gold (and a catchy little tune - was there ever a studio version?) and “Same Old Madness” is a direction I really wish Al had explored more. Someone should do a cover of this with updated production and shit, that would be incredible. Also standing out is “We Believe 2003”, who would have ever thought they would have broken this one out again? Great stuff, and props to rodent.
Been listening to lots of old New Wave and Post-Punk lately, oh and some older industrial. Some of the bands include Comsat Angels, Section 25, Danse Society, The Passions, Cab Voltaire, and today I popped in LPD’s Hallway Of The Gods. Broke out some old Sisters Of Mercy (First and Last…, and Some Boys Wander…), a little Chris and Cosey (Take Five), and hadn’t listened to Depeche Mode in a while, so I got them back in circulation. Oh, and this past weekend, Senor Coconut, an entire album of Kraftwerk covers, hilarious stuff, and a fun listen as well. Xymox’s Twist Of Shadows and Severed Heads’ Bulkhead comp both got some spin time as well. I’m all over the friggin’ place.

I’m taking Dj classes as of now, lots of hip hop fans there and luckily a good amount of dance and rock fans in the mix. Not too many Ministry or NIN type fans though and they will gladly turn those records down no matter how dancy they are in favor of the crap that plays on your local hip hop station. Still listen to alot of the earlier hip hop along with the aggressive 80s synth-pop despite some people at the Dj class either loving it or hating it. I also found another version of Soulseek that’s compatible with Tiger for Mac computers, this may be a silly link in a thread like this, but I didn’t know about this untill now.

crash n burn, just curious, do you go to scratch academdy? i went there last summer.
Yes, it’s fun to me as long as I can get past the people there. They try to put me in a Lil Jon/Youngbloodz “Damn” mold which I don’t like what so ever!
awesome crash, I’m thinking about returning maybe in July or so. No one really got into me mixing the Hanging Garden by the Cure Actually, it fit VERY well with an Amon Tobin track.
