Oh, that was not the experience in my neck of the woods. When TDS hit it was all about how mature and edgy this new album is and how it buries PHM in ground and the genius of trent reznor. I was pretty much the only one in my social group that didn’t really like it.
I think it was outside the Anaheim HOB before the last ministry concert we saw.
I really don’t mind Ringfinger specifically the “you just leave me hanging here like jesus on that cross” lyric. I still quote that from time to time, when i get irritated.
I got “with teeth” a few years ago on a whim and I think I listened to it twice. it’s just ain’t there for me.
I wish I was more into Reznor, but he’s more of a one album wonder for me. I wanna like his stuff because he has so much of it but it just doesn’t speak to me the way PHM does. Maybe I’m jealous cause he’s the touchy feely nerd that actually made it into the cool group and now makes music for them.
Sitting here typing this I think I just hit on it. PHM has soul and feeling to it, where all the stuff I’ve heard from him since is just superficial “visceral” cookie cutter crap. the phrase “try hard” comes to mind.
NIN is very hit or miss for me. I do think they are great live though. TDS is just OK. I can’t stand either Hurt or Closer. When I hear Hurt, all I can think of is - do it, end it all so I don’t have to hear your whiny butt hurt ass anymore. However Broken is outstanding and by far the best thing Reznor has ever done.
Short but sweet . Lost my younger brother to brain cancer over the wekend.
Decided to get hammered today , so I yanked this cd out to jam with.Thank you very much ( grmpysmrf ) for selling my brother a copy of this cd for me back in 2020…Best version of Filth Pig…your the man brother ty…
I’m sorry to hear about your brother.
I wondered what ultimately happened to that cd. I wasn’t going to to part with it, but people on this site had helped me out with my collection and while your bro hit me up on Discogs I thought I’d pay it forward. I’m glad it got taken care of.
To your brother.
Killer all the way up to ritual if i remember right i couldn’t find this one until after nothings shocking was released even though the live one was released 1st i think.
The live one had a super limited run on vinyl that was considered promo, it was on clear vinyl and the only way you could actually know if you were getting the promo cooy was the missing bar code, other than that it was exactly identical to the stock black vinyl.
I remember going though dozens of record shops searching for missing bar codes.
Back then that promo vinyl was super coveted everyone wanted one but most didn’t know about the bar code.
I must have ended up with 8 copies out of from what i heard was 1000.
Eh. I was excited for this one because I thought it was going to be mostly straight NIN, when it’s actually mostly instrumental soundtrack work. Been there, done that.
That got me to give it a perusal. I wish I liked it as much as the Halloween III soundtrack, but to me it just sounds like another Trent/Atticus soundtrack with a few mid level NIN tracks in there. I’ll likely give it a listen later when I’m more in the mood for this sort of thing, but so far it doesn’t grab me. Happy if you like it though! I’m always a little bummed when I don’t like an album that I hope to.
