What are you listening to right now?

Another YAY here for Zevon. “Excitable Boy” was what pulled me in. I got it for “Werewolves Of London” 20+ years ago and was promptly converted to worshiper, haha!

“Enjoy every sandwich.”

1979
Revolution in Iran and Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini installed. Jimi Carter commutes Patty Hearst’s sentence. CD technology makes it’s debut. Iranian hostage crisis. Idi Amin is deposed. Salt II signed by US and Soviet Union. Walkmann debuts. Panama canal returned to Panama. The Who concert disaster in Cincinatti.

AC/DC - Highway to Hell
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
MotorHead - Overkill
The Cure - 3 Imaginary Boys
The B-52’s - ST
Tom Petty - Damn the Torpedos

Thought of
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Neil Young - Rust Never Sleeps
Van Halen - VH II

And I come to the end of my sojourn through the 70’s in vinyl and without any disco BS. Note: I may have the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack someplace.

Jerry Only - Anti-hero

I thought maybe not calling it “Misfits” would cause this record to get a more positive reception, but I think some people are just angry that Only has the temerity to exist at all. It, like Devil’s Rain, is a perfectly passable horrorpunk album along the lines of Rosedales or something in that vein. It’s no classic, but I think if you were to play it to some of the haters without telling them what it was they’d have a better reaction.

Well I learned two things about Prologue in the last couple of weeks…

  1. He has great taste in terms of 70s music
  2. He gives a helluva grout tutorial…

Rock on,man…

Yeah I haven’t heard this but I saw some pretty vicious criticism regarding it…

I’m thinking about starting my own YT home improvement channel. Soon you will prologue_67 up in the pantheon of home improvement giants - such as Bob Vila and Mike Holmes. No plumbing though. I hate things that leak and can’t sweat pipe to save my life. Although the SharkBite stuff looks like something even I can’t screw up.

I’m a bit surprised I didn’t have any Kinks mixed in my vinyl.

Alan Vega-Saturn Strip

Such a great album…still amazes me that 1/2 of Suicide, Ric Ocasek and Al Jourgensen are on the same album and released by Elektra ,no less …amazing

I’ve only heard two tracks so far.
I thought “Fear The Walking Dead” was enjoyably goofy, but “You’re So Square, Baby (I Dont Care)” was a horrific bumbling shitsoup… it sounds like everyone thinks they’re playing a different song and not very well. I’ll skip through other tracks I can find later but I expect I’ll have this same range of reactions… loving the schticky novelty of some and just reviling the unlistenable horseshit of the others.

You’re So Square is a Buddy Holly song and a little bit of an odd choice, but it’s about the same as all the Project 1950 stuff from several years ago.

And by “several” you mean 20 years ago?

I actually like that álbum. It’s mostly songs that were already favorites of mine to begin with and Jerry and his goons actually did solid delivery when putting their stank on it.

I listened to one more of the new Jerry Only songs earlier today. “Anti-Heroes”. Holy shit, what a mess. Sounded like a bunch of drunken slobs had 2 minutes to come up with a theme song to some goofy Saturday kids’ action show like “Power Rangers”. It’s as uninspired and generic as it is sloppy and unlistenable.

Viagra Boys…funny name…

There is a Miami band called The Jacuzzi Boys down here…saw them open for Iggy Pop once…

I think they’re some hardcore band or something, but whenever I see their name my brain thinks VENGA BOYS and that goofy ass Six Flags commercial with the dancing bald guy is suddenly stuck in my head.

That was great. It’s new and I like it. I mean it’s something not at least 30 years old. I shouldn’t like it but I do. A bit Stooges. A bit Sonic Youth. This needs more investigation.

As a big ambient and noise fan where songs can often be long as fuck I could only do it once. It’s not the length that’s the issue it’s just not very good I typically get bored about 20 minutes into it then I just tune out and leave it on in the background lol.
