What are you listening to right now?

Buck 65 - King of Drums mp3/320

Speaking of Lou Reed,is there anyone on this board who has made it all the way through Metal Machine Music?

Oooh, what other Ezrin? I love his work.

Nope. Couldn’t make it through “Lulu” either.

The Wall, all the Alice Cooper albums, The Elder by Kiss,The Baby’s album he produced, the Flo & Eddie album and the Catherine Wheel album,so far…

I made it through Metal Machine Music once…that is a fucking endurance test for the ages…but also one of the greatest “FUCK YOU’S’” to the record industry of all time…

It’s been a while since I listened to the Kinks, gotta fix that!

First off, no. I’ve never made it through.
I forget just exactly what it was for a while and come back to look it up on YouTube to check it from time to time. I remember when I first heard about it and I really hoped and planned to like it, because, yeah, I wanted to be that guy. But no, I couldn’t even pretend to enjoy it.

Tonight I found this guy’s little focus/expository piece on it. It’s really cool and does give a better appreciation of it… no matter how unlistenable I find it to be.

Made it through Metal Machine Music one time. No point at all in trying twice. Wasting time once was enough. It is an interesting story though.

Try listening at high volume. Now there’s a trick.

Ezrin has a bunch of good stuff, though I wouldn’t count Music From the Elder as something positive.

I don’t think anybody can.

Since the board won’t let me post more than 3 times, I’ll have to put this here.

It’s 1972…

Today the neighbors and I will be listening to -

Steely Dan - Can’t Buy A Thrill
Blue Oyster Cult - ST
Neil Young - Harvest
Scorpions - Lonesome Crow
OK. Fuck it. I’m going to have to repeat bands, there is simply too much good stuff to skip over and I’m not finding much else from 1972 in my collection from other artists without a serious archiological dig.
Black Sabbath - Vol. 4
David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust.

Also up for consideration.
Deep Purple - Machine Head
Deep Purple - Made in Japan
Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick

Finishing up my tea and back to working on the house.

Damn dude, you are picking some absolute bangers…your tastes and mine are very much aligned…

Music from the Elder is a guilty pleasure of mine…it’s so ridiculous for Kiss to try a prog rock concept album that I just can’t help but like the sheer absurdity of it…

That was an interesting take…

Oh yeah and never have made it through Lulu…I’m not a Metallica fan and I just never understood the collab and what little I heard was dreadful…

I love Metallica, at least through Justice. They really influenced my musical taste. After Justice not so much.

That being said, given a choice of listening to Lulu at high volume or Metal Machine Music at high volume, I’d choose MMM without hesitation. Why? Easy. Lulu was a work of love between two musical giants. It is beyond awful and completely unlistenable though it was entirely unintentional. Zero redeeming qualities. Zero. Whereas MMM was simply a giant middle finger to the music industry, unlistenable intentionally and nothing more.

Those first couple of Metallica albums are good…music is good I just have an aversion to Hetfield’s voice…in fact,I can’t fucking stand it…

Been revisiting my Overkill collection. Personally I think they are a seriously underrated band and easily the best thrash act (even better than Testament) outside the big four. It boggles the mind as to why so many metal heads I know completely overlook them.

Taking Over
Under The Influence
Ironbound (one of the best metal albums of the 21st century)
The Electric Age

Life after death - B.I.G. via super deluxe 8-LP set.

OverKill is great. I don’t know why they don’t get the recognition either. Yep, better than Testament too. I prefer the 1st 4 albums with Bobby Gustafson but lots of good stuff in their catalog.

While I happen to like James, I can understand the aversion to Hetfield’s vox. A lot of folks have similar feelings about Geddy and Rush. It took a bit but I don’t mind Geddy now, well, mostly

Peter Gabriel is great too. I don’t think I have anything on vinyl. I do have the vast majority of his catalog on CD though.
