Nice…I played Vanishing Point about a month ago…Primal Scream had some good ones…they lost me on the last couple but I never really gave them multiple spins…but that stuff at least up to Xtrmntr was great stuff…also,if you haven’t heard it already, which I’m guessing you have, check out the dub version of Vanishing Point called Echo Dek remixed by the legendary Adrian Sherwood…that one is flawless, imo…

The cult- under the midnight moon (very love era-ish).
RHCP- Return of the dream canteen. (So good so frusciante).

Love los the dub version Vanishing Point, that sort of post rock dub sound is right up my alley. Sherwood is a powerhouse. While it wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, I really liked Evil Heat and thought it was the sort of sound Wax Trad would have been releasing if they’d stayed active into the mid-2000s. After that album though it’s been way more miss than hit. Still Primal Scream did a lot of good music in their time.

Fuck yeah! They’re amazing!
John Cipollina has gotta be one of the most underrated, unsung guitarists ever. I’d been fucking around in the QMS rabbit holes the past few years, and was just blown away by the guy. His style and presence was so incredible. I was really saddened to see he died at age 45 in 1989.

Yeah they are incredible…they get a lot of flak for their later period stuff but I kinda dug all of it…I mean, I think those first 2 albums are definitely stellar and possibly their best work but many seem to think they peaked there and nothing after seems to get much praise…I even kinda dug the one without Cippolina although they are obviously stronger with him…and yeah that guy could tear the fretboard up…if I’m not mistaken there is only one original member left and he is well into his 80s…very cool SF band

I have a bunch of work to do around the house and need some tunes. Since I love the 70’s and my neighbors do to, I’ve decided to start with albums from 1970 and go on from there. All vinyl. I know my neighbors love my music because never once has anyone called the cops on me.

The Stooges - Funhouse
David Bowie - The Man Who Sold The World
Funkadelic - Free Your Mind… And Your Ass Will Follow
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Jimi Hendrix - Band of Gypsies
Deep Purple - Deep Purple In Rock

Can’t go wrong with any of those, prologue…all stone cold classics…

Lists like this always impress me.
It’s just insane how much awesome music was being put out in the 60’s and 70’s and even the 80’s, that it takes a lot of work for someone to even filter through and pick their top 20 of any given year. Nowadays there might be 1 or 2 albums in a year that I even give a single fuck about.

My listening habits have been largely a function of my wife’s car (Tesla) lately. There are really cool streaming options, and I may get an urge to listen to a particular artist or even a particular song. So I’ll do a search and select it and then it makes that a “channel” that I can save. And it pulls (“algorithms”, I guess) a bunch of stuff related accordingly. So on my Roky Erickson channel it’s been also giving me a lot of Tom Waits, Iggy Pop, and so forth. And my Johnny Cash channel I’ve been getting a lot of Porter Wagoner, Kris Kristofferson, David Allen Coe, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams, etc.

I’m presently hung up on old 60’s and 70’s country music.
My favorites being Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, David Allen Coe, and Willie Nelson.

For me, 1971 is all about:

Can - Tago Mago
Van Der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts
King Crimson - Islands
Led Zeppelin - IV (Zoso)
The Flamin’ Groovies - Teenage Head
Amon Duul II - Tanze Der Lemminge

I went with the 60s today and listened to the Troggs for the first time in ages. Really good, almost proto-punk.

The 70’s rock. I fished through my collection of vinyl for albums released in 1971. No best of list or anything, just stuff I have on vinyl for a particular year that I feel like playing.

Jethro Tull - Aqualung
Pink Floyd - Meddle
Alice Cooper - Killer
The Who - Who’s Next
Yes - Fragile
Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers

I tried not to repeat bands and still have everything all vinyl so no Sabbath, Bowie or Hendrix again. Otherwise, I would have included -

David Bowie - Hunky Dory
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
Jimi Hendrix - The Cry of Love
Funkadelic - Maggot Brain

Honorable mention, Mountain - Nantucket Sleighride.

Why six albums? It’s about the time I need to get done what I want to get done today. Not quite as good as a mix as 1970. My neighbors will still appreciate the tunes though.

Time to get back working on the house. Well, after I finish my tea.

Absolutely quite as good as the 7O mix…with this era of music there is no need to compare…and the Mountain album rules as much as the others…aside from those things I agree with everything in your post:wink::grin:

lol everything ok? i only put that one on when i’m absolutely despondent.

Hahaha yeah I’m ok …thanks for asking…it’s definitely a grim album for sure…I’ve been on a run of revisiting Bob Ezrin produced albums and this one was up…still as depressing as ever…but damn does it have some crack musicians on it…Dick Wagner,Jack Bruce,Aynsley Dunbar,Tony Levin etc…unreal…
