What are you listening to right now?

Nice bro!

Lynyrd Skynyrd live at knebworth blu ray, still to this day the most musically perfect performance I’ve ever seen/heard…no tapes, no pedals, no wireless just a very overly rehearsed band opening for the stones.
You don’t have to like skynyrd to appreciate what happened that day…perfection.
Must see.

Yeah that blu-ray is awesome…great one.

Uriah Heep-Demons and Wizards

Fuck yeah! I love Uriah Heep!

Yeah they are great…some albums are of higher quality than others but the stuff that’s good is really good…

np:

Philip Glass, “Koyaanisqatsi” (so good I actually checked the spelling)
the new Kendrick Lamar
the Hold Steady
Bruce Springsteen

Yeah, hahaha!!! Ironically, I was fascinated (because it looked creepy as fuck) by ABOMINOG since young and never heard it until recently. Let’s just say it’s good that I listened to the other albums first.

That’s my favorite Uriah Heep!

I have a sentimental spot for Abominog…the second concert I ever saw was Uriah Heep on that tour opening for Priest on the Screaming tour…I was barely 12 and both bands melted my young rock n roll mind…still have the shirts from those shows (several sizes too small of course)…Abominog was a big change in sound for them…they kind of rode the New Wave of British Heavy Metal as inspiration mixed with an AOR sensibility…(plus it had the Blizzard of Ozz rhythm section on it- definitely a bonus)…I’m surprised you weren’t to keen on this one,Gunnar…it’s definitely miles away from their monolithic organ driven 70s work but still pretty good after a few listens…

I think I’ll have to revisit it, to be honest.
I think it was more a case of something being built up in my mind a certain way and the actual experience being light years away from it. I just remember always thinking that this was gonna be some ultra dark and heavy demonic experience, but . . . yeah, not so much. I think I’ll pull it up now so I can let y’all know what I think. Plus my tastes nowadays have evolved quite a bit from what they were 5 years ago or whenever it was I finally tried listening to some Abominog. Heep and Priest actually toured recently (“Firepower”, I believe) again. My local show would have only been a couple miles from my house, but it was conflicting with something else at the same time.

Well yeah that’s a good point in that the music definitely doesn’t match up to that epic artwork…you see that album cover without knowing the music and you are expecting some super evil shit dialed up right from hades…

Yeah it was a trip seeing that same double bill 40 years later on the Firepower tour …

Okay, yeah, I just rocked it during my morning shower. Probably listened to about 5-6 tracks. I definitely appreciate it more than the first time when it hit me like the ALS ice bucket challenge. I listen to a lot of stuff like post-Dio Rainbow, Foreigner, etc. so this turn for Uriah isn’t completely against my DNA now, haha. Back when I first tried it I was like, “All right, let’s get some heavy Sabbathy groove going here! WHOA!!! What the Loverboy-Stuck-In-Billy-Squier’s-Butthole is this shit???” But yeah, nowadays I can also easily groove with Loverboy and Billy Squier… and his butthole, so it’s all good.

The adult heavy pop being out-of-step with the scary demon cover vibe kind of makes me think of GHOST a bit and how emotionally reactive people get to them . . . are they evil, are they fake, how come their new album is so poppy, aren’t they supposed to be Satanic, how come they sound so gay, and what the fuck are they wearing NOW???

Anyway, thanks for helping me give Abominog another listen. Not something I’d listen to all the time, but . . . I’ll probably revisit it more than MAGNUM.

Goddamn, that’s a good one.
Forget punk, alternative, whatever . . . I think “Waiting Room” might be one of the 10 best songs ever written of all time in my book.
