What are you listening to right now?

Could never get in to Magnum…but Ceremony by the Cult is criminally underrated…

HAHAHAHAHA!!! Fuck. I tried.
This sounds like the soundtrack to every awesome 80’s movie ever.
I’m not gonna listen to it anymore, but goddamn, that was a good laugh clicking through it.

I was really hoping I’d be into it, though, just so I could buy THIS…

Hahaha I was hoping you were gonna listen and I kind of predicted that would be your reaction…that album cover says it all…I wonder with a title like Vigilante what inspired that album artwork?! Like ,wtf …

With the band name and album title, and given the other mentions on the list I totally thought I was going to get some big macho cock rock metal, haha! Nope. Definitely not what I was ready for. But now I wanna watch “Fast Times”, “Last American Virgin”, and “Vision Quest” in no particular order.

I would suggest watching them in the reverse order you listed…Vision Quest is opening act, Last American Virgin is the rocking second act and Fast Times is clearly the headliner…

Btw,has anyone in 80s teen sex comedy history taken as swift a kick to the nuts as the main character in Last American Virgin…that fucking dude did everything imaginable for that chick, fucking over the top and what does she do? Runs back to the dildo who got her in her predicament…one of the all time cinematic gut punches as that sad sack drives off crying while listening to I Did My Best but I guess my best wasn’t good enough or whatever that song is called…

The only problem I have with Zappa – who I frankly come to about once a year for a few weeks and then wander off for another year – is that the live albums seem to represent shows with really important visuals, which just doesn’t translate. But he’s definitely not a joke, and neither is his band – they are tight, tight, fully-realized musicians who know their shit.

Ween. Came to them when I got “Pure Guava” on Columbia House in 1993. (Remember Columbia House?) Pure gold.

I’ve also been listening to Captain Beefheart’s “Trout Mask Replica,” but that’s another story: I typically read and listen to music at the same time, but TMR demands my full attention, and it’s great, but a little exhausting at times.

Magnum are an acquired taste and Vigilante is more of a guilty pleasure if anything. Funnily enough, my high school English teacher turned me on to them. I can understand if others think they’re a bit ridiculous because I wouldn’t argue. Very cheesey but sometimes I want to hear cheesey. I don’t know how else to put it.

Better albums than Vigilante are Chase The Dragon, On A Storytellers Night and my favorite, Brand New Morning.

I have quite a few Zappa lp’s. Zoot Allures and Overnite Sensation are great. Roxy & Elsewhere is a decent live album to check out.

I only have one Ween cd.

I’ve got everything Frank has ever done…even the official boots(some of which the sound quality leaves alot to be desired)…The full Roxy show took forever to come out on Blu/dvd but after many many years of false starts fit came out a while back and that thing is magical…that was definitely one of Frank’s tightest version of The Mother’s and they really cleaned that footage up nicely and is highly recommended…

Out of curiosity which Ween cd do you have?

Oh dude Trout Mask Replica exists in its own world…that album definitely is a love it or hate it type of recording…the first time I ever heard it was under the influence of some psychoactive drugs so you can imagine my reaction to that…the more I listen to it the more I love it over the years…let’s just say it’s not music you put on for a first date haha…

lol. i find the albums i would think would be most disturbing during a trip (Throbbing Gristle, Mr. Bungle, Butthole Surfers, etc.) don’t faze me at all, but if someone puts on Vanilla Ice, I start making excuses for him. LSD is a helluva drug

No one ever has ALL of the zappa treasures.
New york is the best live show.

I have Ween’s White Pepper on cd. I have Chocolate and Cheese on vinyl. Forgot I even had it. I used to have Pure Guava on cd but I lost it when I had a house party once and someone nabbed it. Bastards.

I think, off the top of my head I have 8 Zappa lp’s and 8 cds.

Your records are making me hungry.

My buddy bought GodWeenSatan the oneness on a whim in the early 90’s (92(?) 93(?))
That album to this day remains my favorite ween album. All of those songs are so fun. Pure Guava came to me through columbia house as well but it came up short to the bar that the oneness set. Tried out the Pod a few years ago and wasn’t into that one either

Ween are a talented bunch of guys. But too often their albums are like an EP with a bunch of crap tacked on that you’d rarely ever listen to. I have not heard the first two albums though, which I am told are the best by a mile. I am going to a decent sized record fair this weekend and I know for a fact that one of the vendors is bringing in a bunch of Ween goodies, so maybe I’ll splash some cash with him.

I felt that way initially about Ween but I don’t anymore…as for how all over the place they are after repeated listens it has a certain cohesion for me…The Pod was done under the influence of Scotchgard hahaha…
