Yeah, haha! He’s one of the zombified metal heads marching after Messiah. Even if you don’t know who to look for it’s typically the top topic of conversation in the comments with everyone clamoring to point him out.
I watched their opening show (Rush segment) on you tube. His singing caught me off guard but Primus did a great job with the whole album.
I got my hands on the new Halsey today. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross produced it. Fuck me if it’s not really good. Like Grimes on steroids. Every song was co-written with Trent and it sounds it. In fact, the project is very “what if Trent Reznor produced a slick pop star,” conceptually. Definitely worth checking out when it drops tomorrow.
I like Primus but touring another band’s album in entirety? Stuff like this shows the band is out of gas. I do admit, Primus does a passable Rush. But no thank you.
This is actually the 2nd time they’ve done something like this. They did it a few years back with the willy wonka album. I think its a cool idea. Nice way to pay homage to a band you like. Plus primus has such a cool way of covering stuff… im not a fan of rush at all but i am excited to see what primus will do with their music.
Yeah, I know about the Wonka album and associated tour. I didn’t think it was all that great. I only saw video of the tour so maybe it was better in person. Primus has been covering Rush for years. The 1st time I saw Primus (1990???), they did a Rush tune during soundcheck. Spirit of the Radio I think it was.
There is video of Primus doing the Farewell To Kings bit - https://youtu.be/4S70s2qsMvI
It’s pretty much note for note. I thought it was boring.
J.J Cale…70’s stuff.

I’ve never been as big a Primus fan on record as
I am their live shows…completely different worlds…their live shows are fucking phenomenal and I think they are still as vital as ever…those Claypool bass lines rattle around in your head for like 2 wks after the show hahaha…I’m a huge Rush fan and Farewell to Kings is def in my top 3 of their catalog so I am looking forward to this show big time…
I gotta hear those Dehumanizer sessions…I love that album…heavy as fuck…we saw them twice on that tour…one of the shows we were at is on the bonus disc of the re-issue…
I don’t know anything about Halsey but was reading an article about that album on Sterogum…will have to give it a whirl…
The way she sings it’s not for my taste. It actually annoys me. I don’t think it’s bad and it works with the well crafted instrumentals, but not for me.
It would have been way cooler a collaboration with St Vincent.
Which brings me to this:

Amazing how much of JJ Cale’s work has been covered by other artists…
Cozy is on here before he got hurt…
St. Vincent is the shit. She changes from album to album but the quality never suffers. She has repeatedly discussed her desire to do a “Tool-like” heavy metal album, which I would love to hear.
I was listening to a recent Al Jourgensen interview and he was gushing about ROBIN TROWER. I’d heard his name for decades but never checked him out until tonight. Holy shit! It’s right up my alley!!! Really badass British blues rock with massive swagger. Super powerful and clean vocals, amazing guitar, really soulful bass and drums. It’s just 3 guys, apparently, making such tasty jams. Kind of a nastier Cream or a more efficient Quicksilver Messenger Service (which I only recently got into by way of Dennis Dunaway’s autobiography, haha). Highly recommended for anyone into that kinda thing.
Bridge of Sighs is a classic. Unfortunately, James Dewar -vocals, passed away years ago.
Robin Trower is incredible…saw him a few yrs ago when he was already over 70 and he ripped as if he was in his 20s…his stuff with Procol Harum is real good too…massive guitarist…
