Maiden just dropped another track.
They set the bar way too fucking high with their last video, but this is still solid Iron Maiden.
Oh my fucking god bro those vids are so incredibly stupid and awesome…I had seen the Armored Saint one way back in the day and as I watched parts of it flooded back into my memory…that “cannon” they are riding with on the back of the car looks like it was made out of cardboard and tin foil, and probably was…and what was with the Excalibur circle jerk they had? Fucking Christ, that was great…
How fucking stoned was everyone in the Candlemass video…they were all surely paid in Pabst Blue Ribbon and Doritos…god damn that was some glorious shit…must watch again immediately!!!..
Combined total of both videos-$78.94 hahaha
Going to check Maiden track now…
I just read that Dead from Mayhem is in that Candlemass video…you have me going down the fucking rabbit hole now,Gunnar hahaha…

1 Long story, so I separated it from the list above. I like Rush – a lot – but I think the lyrics, written as they are by Neil Peart, are almost worthless. They’re almost beside the point, granted, but the thing that ultimately sticks in my craw is Peart’s devotion to Ayn Rand.
Ayn Rand. Wow.
For those of you who don’t know, Ayn Rand is kind of a poor man’s L. Ron Hubbard. She has certain ironclad philosophies about life – objectivism, the prioritization of the individual over the good of the herd, being the most well-known of them – that many people find offensive on a deep, thoughtful level. (By “thoughtful,” I mean this isn’t the kind of knee-jerk reaction everyone has to certain things; you have to read one of her books to have a say, you can’t casually say “Ayn Rand blows.”)
She was basically a would-be Svengali with a writing problem. She wrote a few very well-known tomes, most of them big enough to prop a door with, all of them blithely ignorant of obvious aspects of reality and humanity, done so in an attempt to hammer her beliefs home – over and over again.
I read most of one of those books: “Atlas Shrugged.” It was like walking through a swamp. For the first 300 pages, I was like, “That’s not too bad. I can handle this.” By page 600, I began to fear for my sanity. Whatever would confound her worldview is simply omitted. Apparently, “Atlas Shrugged” is set in a near future where religion doesn’t exist. It never says so, but it doesn’t give the idea of sprituality a second thought. You would think one of the many forgettable characters would have some kind of belief system, but no.
The book’s climax is a 160-page speech.
While I was reading this “book” on the subway one day, a well-dressed young man approached me and told me how much he liked the book, how he lived by Ayn Rand’s principles, and how they shaped his life for the better. We had a reasonable, fair share of views for a few stops, until he had to get off the train.
I asked him if he lived in the area. He smiled as the train slowed and said, “I’m homeless. I’m just meeting a friend.”
“Oh… I’m sorry to hear that.”
“Don’t be. Being homeless is awesome. I’ve never worn the same pair of socks twice.”
And then he was gone.
So, yeah. Neil Peart, objectivism, Ayn Rand, lyrics, Rush, something. If you’ve read this far, thank you. Signing off.
Yeah but Peart later disavowed Ayn Rands literature and basically chalked those lyrics up to being young, impressionable and still trying to find his way lyrically…he definitely disassociated himself from that shit later on and his lyrics got way better…I had to read that Atlas Shrugged bullshit in college because I had a professor who was all about it…fuck all that noise…
Btw, I’m going to see Primus do Farewell to Kings next week…gonna brave a concert…
I did not know Peart disassociated himself with objectivism and Ayn Rand. My bad.
Nearly bought a ticket for the Primus: Farewell To Kings show at the Beacon. Too rich for my blood. Have a great time, I saw Primus do “Cygnus X-1” at the Slayer NYC farewell show and it blew.my.mind.
