“Unleash the fookin fury!!!”

Great first record - for any fucking band.

Warren Zevon
The Crucifucks
Harry Nilsson
Lizzy Borden

Dude, I am a huge fan of the vastly underrated Warren Zevon(even met him down in Key West once)…sad that so many people only know him for Werewolves in London…he has so much more incredible work…hell, even GG Allin was a fan ha!

Cynic-Focus

NP:
Danny Elfman, “Big Mess”
Comes out on Friday. Features Robin Finck on guitar and Josh Freese on drums. I tried to listen to this and read at the same time and found myself unable. It is a very, very solid piece of NIN-like guitar rock from a highly unlikely quarter. It demands – and amply rewards – close listening.

What an incredible career Elfman has had…from his work with Oingo Boingo to all his film and tv score work to projects like this…thanks for the heads up…sounds intriguing…will give it a go…

Yeah, they premiered one of the Elfman songs a few months ago. I forget the name of it but it was really cool. I love that, while his songs and score work are all very distinct pieces on their own, they are also so identifiable as Elfman. I can be watching a movie and just get a smile as I realize, “Yep, another Elfman score!” I used to have the cassette for the BATMAN (1989) score in my Grandmother’s 1982 Oldsmobile 88. We’d play that in the car while cruising around at night to do dastardly shit. It was so cool.

I actually got opened up to him through GG, haha! (“Carmelita” was a real standout on that “Carnival of Excess” album with The Criminal Quartet). Heard that song in college and shortly after bought “Excitable Boy” and a bunch of other stuff as I went on. “My Shit’s Fucked Up” is one of my favorite songs ever and just about the realest darkest and bravest song ever written. Watching my dad and Grandmother both die over the last couple years, that song just became so incredibly personal and grounding.

Dude my grandmother had an 82 Olds too!!!..and some other years as well…it was sky blue and to this day still had the best air conditioner I’ve ever experienced in any car ever…what was it with grandparents and Oldsmobiles??? Those were some tough cars though, the likes of which aren’t made anymore…

Yeah that was one of those covers GG did that didn’t sound like total shit haha…Zevon was so great…he could do serious or pitch black humour or satire and play in a multitude of genres…the book about him is incredible(I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead)…dude had some problems and certainly did some very sketchy shit but really that’s the majority of people in the life of rock n roll…that final album he made when he knew he was dying is kind of heartbreaking too and the only one of his I have trouble listening to…my dad died not long after it came out and it hit home…I can relate to your pain and I’m sorry to hear about your losses over the last couple of years…ain’t nothing easy about losing the people you love…

Abba - Ring Ring

fuck the character limit. why can’t someone overwrite it?

Exact same one, Bro!!! That sky blue was a factory standard, haha! And yeah, it was a goddamned battleship. Ours finally got put down around '93 when my sis was driving it and she got plowed by a drunk driver and it sent the car flying through a brick wall. Any other car and she’d likely be dead, but she got out without a scratch.

At night the car looked just like a police cruiser and my buddies and I had a spotlight that could plug into the cigarette lighter and we had a shitty battery-powered megaphone. We’d roll up to Skyline which was my town’s version of Inspiration Point (ref: “Happy Days”). We’d shine the light into a car that had some kids fooling around and shout at 'em like we were cops as they frantically shit their pants and tried to get dressed. Then wed tear out laughing out heads off. Good times.

Its amazing how you just mentioning the 82 Olds sent down this rabbit hole of memories of my grandparents…amazing time in life, wish they were still here cuz they were super cool people…sounds like you had some fun times with yours…and yeah stroke of luck about the drunk driving incident…those cars were brick shithouses, man…built to withstand punishment!!

Yeah the character limit thing is dog shit…annoying as hell sometimes…

I just Googled pics and . . . holy shit, just look at it and it’s deadly front end!
It honestly looks like it was specifically engineered for the sole purpose of driving through brick walls, which I can tell you it does incredibly well. Ours had a lot of external body damage, of course, but other than that, if someone wanted to buy a lot of Bondo and give it a few weekends of work at their school’s autoshop, our “totaled” 88 would still be on the road and taking out walls today, hahaha.

My old former gangster neighbor used to drive one of those boatmobiles. It was grey not blue but otherwise an '82 Olds Delta 88 whale. Curb feelers too though they didn’t help much.

HAHA!!! Curb feelers!!! I’d seen 'em a bunch but never really got it . . . . so do you just roll down your windows and listen for a faint swishing sound when you get close?

Judging by how scuffed the white walls were, I’d have to say the curb feelers didn’t do the job.
